I actually have a really suggestion…. Grandparents love to give gifts but an infant basically doesn’t need a lot. Give them binders with lots of blank pages, and have them write down the family stories. Not genealogy (this one married that one and had these kids)-instead, these are the stories they would send the kids out of the room for when kids were younger and when they got old enough to hear about them wondered either “what’s the big deal about that“ or “I can’t believe I’m related to these people“. Record ‘both sides’ of a story. Go to the oldest members of the family and record they stories they heard when they were little. Digitize pictures and say who’s in the picture, when it was taken, and why it was taken. When more than three people are in a room from a family they will tell stories, record it. Have everybody add a story for Christmas tradition. We don’t live in neighborhoods where all of our family live in the same neighborhood anymore and we’re losing those oral stories.
Love this. Another good one I heard (don't know if they did it at her baby shower or not) is for everyone to write a card to the baby talking about what their parents/grandparents lives were like when they knew them.
