Live baby ducks being shipped via U.S. Mail!

  • Here a Postal clerk explains that ducks, chickens and turkeys are regularly shipped via United States Mail. He assures us that the ducks (and other critters) remain relatively comfortable as they're being shipped around the country in these containers. According to a note, printed on the shipping carton, these ducks were only a day old at the time of this recording!

      I think this particular box was accidentally damaged in processing as the Postal Service doesn't normally open packages!

    I am in agreement with you but suspect these animals will be used as food - so very few people care. I, myself, don't eat animals to I do care!

    I got my ducks this way, it's not a big deal. Why do they necessarily have to be food. Most breeds of ducklings and chicks live on the yolk they eat before hatching for two or three days so they are able to ship them right after hatching, and they arrive a day or two later. I live on the east coast, and mine came from the west coast. A lot of places you buy them locally probably got them this way too, and it helps keep rare breeds alive. Just because it may seem wrong doesn't mean it is.

    I don’t understand why ppl can’t go to the nearest feed store or tractor supply and purchase ducks/chickens/etc. I’ve been told most of the time there not nailed with food or water and then is some cases they die. How is this not animal cruelty? When I would purchase mine at multiple local feed store they where scared in an opened box. These don’t look scared but I guarantee you this is not always the case.

    • @joeytaylor5067
      @joeytaylor5067 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’ll never believe how they get to that “local feed store”

    • @jjanel1984
      @jjanel1984 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are mailed at 1 day old and no later. Because they still have enough nutrients from the yolk and can go a few days without food. They usually ship them with some grow gel

    • @jjanel1984
      @jjanel1984 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Plus, online you can pick out what kind of birds you want. When you go to the local feed store you dont have any cariety to choose from

  • @Crazynice619
    @Crazynice619 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The spurious stories people tell themselves to justify their own narrative - “they’re really comfortable in there. None of them ever died or anything”. There’s a reason ducklings never voluntarily go inside a cardboard box for a couple days. Because it’s not. Imagine if someone stuck you inside a box for a couple days and shipped you cross country. You’ll probably survive too, but that doesn’t mean you’re happy about it or comfortable.

    • @joeytaylor5067
      @joeytaylor5067 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah they don’t look good. I’ve ordered through the mail but not usps, special shipping, big box with heat lamp, food, and waterx

    • @Crazynice619
      @Crazynice619 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      JOEY TAYLOR thanks for the message. I’m trying my best to not criticize those who order ducklings by mail. You seem like your intentions are good as probably most who order them are. It’s just a truth we all ought to consider. Just like the people who fish for sport who throw the fish back in the water and say they are fine, they live. But yeah they live with a hole in their nose the rest of their life. Do they think about that ever if someone pricked a hole in their nose? I don’t want to be the bad guy, but it’s hard to say the truth without offending people, unless it makes them laugh or supports their own narrative.

    You can mail day old poultry if it will arrive within 72 hours.
    Adult birds can also be mailed but must be at least 6 oz and not over 25lbs.
    At 155 lbs I am unmailable.

    @Shokara2
    We are not in agreement then. To me, the idea of killing and eating something for no other reason than pleasure indicates that we don't respect the animal. We do not need to kill or eat other animals - we simply do it because it tastes good - hence killing 'em for pleasure and not respecting them as beings with their own value and worth independent of what we label them with.
