No retro feeling but completely retro as this video is from 1985. Falco was from Austria, so he sings in English and German. He was the first to do so, his music being quite unique for that time period. Sadly he passed away when a bus hit his car in 1998. Please check "Rock me Amadeus" by him, the only German song that reached no. 1 in the US billboard charts!
Hi HC, this video was published 1985, so it's no artificial retro look, but an original one... :-) Falcos song "Rock me Amadeus" was the first (partly...) German sung song, which topped #1 at the US billboard charts. Instead of being happy, Falco fell into depression, as he realized, that he just climbed to the top of his career and now it must go down. He died in a car accident in 1998 under the influence of cocaine and alcohol.
If you feel like listening to more Falco I highly recommend Jeanny! The first part is in German but the middle & end are in English! It's one of those songs that //everyone// in Germany & Austria will know. One of those that stood up against the tooth of time! Here's a link for you th-cam.com/video/Urw-iutHw5E/w-d-xo.html
Just found this reaction. Also, I saw that you reacted to "Jeanny" ... but WHY, oh WHY, have you NOT reacted to Falco's "Rock Me Amadeus?"! It is, to this day, the only Austria/German language song to ever reach #1 on the US Billboard chats. If you like, as you say @5:33 "funny, satire" music - you must check that one out. Falco pays homage to Mozart in that video and it's a great one! "Rock Me Amadeus" came out in 1985, topped the charts in the US on March 29, 1986, where it stayed for 3 weeks. Falco died in a car accident in the Dominican Republic on February 6, 1998 age 40 - 13 days before his 41st birthday. One last Falco song that you must hear is "Out of the Dark (Into the Light)." It was recorded in 1988 but wasn't released after he died ten years later. Look up the lyrics. It's haunting. The lyrics are about his addiction to cocaine and how he cannot stop it. He knows it will kill him, but he needs it, craves it. When he was killed in a car accident, the autopsy confirmed he had alcohol, pot, and cocaine in his system - but ironically the accident was NOT his fault. The bus that hit him was going over 100mph and t-boned him. Thankfully, no one was on the bus at the time and no one (other than Falco) was injured or killed. The driver of the bus did 3 years in jail for Falco's death. Falco was an Austrian genius, a child musical prodigy, and very well-known and respected throughout Europe, but he only made a dent in English speaking countries with "Rock Me Amadeus" because English speaking countries don't really highlight foreign language songs that much. To this day, he holds the record for selling more records worldwide than any other Austrian in history - and that includes Mozart, Vivaldi, Schubert, Brahms, and Beethoven - all of whom either were born, died (or both) in Austria. Falco was born Johann Holzel in Vienna, Austria. He also wrote the song "Der Kommissar" which was his breakout hit in 1981/1982. It was covered in English but the band "After the Fire" soon after and the After the Fire version hit #3 in America. But it was written and first recorded by Falco and his version hit number one throughout Europe. It was a massive hit. Another great one to check out. I would check out the Falco original, then the After the Fire remake to hear it in English. Fun Fact: Falco "plays" the waiter/bartender in white tux in the After the Fire version of Der Kommisar.
#18 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1986. And with his song "Rock me Amadeus" Falco reached Nr. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1986. The first German song at the top on the Billboard.
This video is from 1985! Falco was the first white raper. Unmatched and ahead of its time. In the words of Captain Kirk and First officer Spock: Space, the final frontier These are the voyages of the Starship Falco Its five year mission To explore strange new worlds To seek out new life And new civilizations To boldly go where no singer has gone before.
Its in austrian language. Here is the translation. Talking about Stella's sitting in Rio - Stella's lying down in Tokyo Men asking them for light, after the other thing anyway Sugar Chris is missing you - your leg and your face You can do without me - but not without luxury What do little girls play with today, here and there If in Tucson, Arizona, Toronto, Canada Vienna, only Vienna, you know me inside out You know me Vienna, Vienna, only you, where are your ladies ohoho, operator (so alone am I) ohoho, operator (need you to come tonight) Hello, oho Vienna calling Hello, oho Vienna calling Two, one, zero - the alarm is red Vienna in need - cha, cha, cha Vienna calling, Vienna calling And suddenly Maria is named Marilyn and Eva is named Yvonne A young Bogart hangs on her lips, sweetie, and says "come on" The curly hairstyle is removed, the dancers are being stopped It's 4.45, now position is being rehearsed What do little girls play with today... Falco had several international hits including "Der Kommissar" (1981), "Rock Me Amadeus", "Vienna Calling", "Jeanny", "The Sound of Musik", "Coming Home (Jeanny Part II, One Year Later)", and posthumously "Out of the Dark". "Rock Me Amadeus" reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts in 1986, making him the only artist in history whose principal language was German, to score a vocal number-one hit in the United States.[2] According to his estate, he has sold 20 million albums and 40 million singles, which makes him the best-selling Austrian singer of all time. Also notable was his very early creation of a successful non-English language rap music song (Der Kommissar), recorded in December of 1981.
If you liked this, Rock me Amadeus was his big hit here; but, 'The sound of Musik' is hella fun too. I have a pretty eclectic taste for music and both Nena and Falco figure pretty big in my music collection. First vinyl after buying a new turntable this past year is Falco3 and the extended cuts of Amadeus and the album "Emotional'. Not requesting reviews; but, they're well worth a listen as is much of his catalogue. The guy struck me as a German Paul McCartney - ham and a half, fun and a well known bass guitarist before hitting it big as a lead. No small potato in the European scene.. his grave is a monument.
The video was actually made in the 80s. Johann Holzel aka Falco died in a horrific road traffic accident when his Mitsubishi crashed into a bus. He was later found to be high on alcohol and drugs at the time of the crash.
The different language you describe is most likely to be German. The reason I say this is because Falco (real name Johann Holzel) is actually Austrian. Some people might say there's a clue in the song title - Vienna (Wien) being the Austrian capital city, of course. Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Czech Republic of course being very closely linked.
hey, i saw the 2. video of u cause falco .... r u only react of him, cause u get donos in livestream, or do u seriously have a yt chanel? i dont know if i subscribe u and wait for more stuff or forget u tomorrow :/ greetings from baltic sea/ germany

Yes and his biggest turning point came when he found out that his daughter was not his 😞
Falco was the first german speaking rapper, change my mind.
Period.

I remember clear as day this song I must have been 7 but I always LOVED Vienna calling... falco was the man!
I understand both languages and love this kind of music. Feelings from the past....

Falco reminds me of Craig Ferguson and Norm McDonald. All very intelligent men who never took themselves too seriously.
Rammstein gone pop has to be the most accurate description of Falco ever😂

True. This was great!
It's not from 2017. It's from 1985.
This music video came out in the 80's
FYI the upload date its not video date.
This vid came out in '85. Unfortunately, Falco had a drunken run-in with a bus in '98. The bus won.
