Theory: Yami Yami no Mi is not a Logia but a Zoan. The Goroseis said in Chapter 1043 that Zoan has a life or will itself. We also saw Yami Yami no Mi chose Teach like the fruit is changing his personality in the first sight. He also said while battling Ace that the fruit has chose him to become its master. This cursed fruit might be a mythical Zoan type. The three heads on his Jolly Roger resembles also three heads or something. I think the Cerberus theory is still the most plausible. Regarding the issue with swimming, Blackbird didn’t hold the 3rd devil fruit until Marineford war so one of his “bodies” was still Devil fruit-less. Possibly, the instances where he was seen to be able to swim by Whitebeard’s crew were all during periods when he was in that “Body”. Or he may even be able to switch at will!
This theory doesn't work out.
At Marineford he uses 2 powers at the same time, which means that his body doesn't flip between 3 possible bodies, but instead they are always to some extend active. This means, that if he possessed the power of a cerberus fruit, he wouldn't be able to swim, because he can't just deactivate it.
It is very likely that he possesses 3 bodies in some kind, but I don't think that this is becase of any devil fruit. The Cerberus is more of a symbolic trait and not a fruit itself. (Shanks too just symbolized the norse god, and never obtained this power through a devil fruit)

I remember seeing a video that talked about a theory of Blackbeard having an Octopus Mythical zoan fruit which I think could work due to the fact that octopuses have 3 hearts which can represent the 3 personalities and the ability to have 3 devil fruits. Also the think about Blackbeard never sleeps could be possible due to him having an Octopus Mythical zoan fruit because octopuses sleep very little. Yes. This makes the most sensible reasons to why BB has multiple fruit power. As his own yami yami no mi power "absorbes" anything he touches, including the soul of devil fruit (like when he covered white beard and got his power)... That same mix of his (BB) fruit power combined with inanimate objects getting fruit power makes the most sensible reason. Also, this allows to BB to have multiple personality disorder because of which BB is refered as "they" rather than "him".

Depending on the time line and what devil fruits he allegedly possesses at the time, if you follow the idea that he is 3 people and they essentially take it in 'shifts' and have distinct personalities and he never sleeps due to this, then it is possible that at this particular time the one present during his interaction with the sea possessed a devil fruit and is directly implicated negatively because of it.
It doesn't tie in well with the fact that he can use more than one in such a short period of time though as you would think the same restriction would apply positively and negatively so I dunno.
My theory is we have been lied to by the government about how it’s only possible to eat 1 devil fruit and Blackbeard was the only one who took a risk and challenged that idea.
Wouldn’t be the first time the gov lied about something in order to keep control.

So Blackbeard, when he killed Whitebeard and put out that black curtain, was actually holding a fruit with him, in which the Gura Gura no Mi powers got transferred. I like the Cerberus idea. I also heard a really good theory about him having some mythical snake fruit. The snake was apophis or apep and had earthquake powers and I think some black hole thing. Luffy crew will likely be 12 people and hancock just like Jesus church was 12 apostles and mary Magdalena. Also in the Bible it says God create Light (gum gum fruit) and darkness (yami yami no mi) so both fruits together are like two halves of one singular divine power of the Most High.
Reference and theory
There is a scene in Fairy Tail where Natsu and Zancrow faces against each other two ball of fires clashing together similar to Blackbeard’s and Ace’s devil fruit. Another scene where Natsu empty out his powers and created a new vessel to temporarily possess God flames. What if Blackbeard use a technique like that creates new vessels to have multiple devil fruits?
I feel like the fruits he has is foreshadowed with his rings, even though he has 4 distinctly shaped ones. The purple one on his thumb, the blue/ green one on his middle finger. That would leave the ring that looks like a sun/flower on his index and the blue that looks like a planet with moons orbiting. Idk just feel like it could be something
I have a feeling that Blackbeard's devil fruit awakening will spread this black thing everywhere and try to devour every single Devil Fruit that exists in the OP World. A final fight scene like this will be awesome
I have two theories regarding how Blackbeard obtained his second devil fruit.
The first is, since Blackbeard's intelligent, he figured out how to fuse a devil fruit into an object (as far as we currently know, this technique is kept secret by the World Government) and he fused Whitebeard's fruit into one of his rings and can indirectly access the devil fruit's power.
My second theroy, which is much more likely, since it fits the narrative we know so far.
When Big Mom speaks to king, in chapter 951, she tells him 3 races are missing from her kingdom.
One is King's race, Lunarians.
Second are giants, since she has a feud with them.
Third we don't know of, it has yet to be confirmed.
Keep in mind, that if this third race is a race that we have already seen or heard of, why would Oda keep it a secret and add it to the already big list of mysteries of One Piece and not just confirm it and be done with it. In other words, it is a race that we do not know of as of yet.
Big Mom mentions that ONE of them may have been lost to the sands of time, and she obviously means the third race (If she was referring to King's race, why wouldn't she say I thought YOUR race was lost to the sands of time.)
What if Blackbeard is possibly the last member of that third race. A race that is capable of eating more than one devil fruit and one which requires no sleep and are highly endurable without even haki. Such a race would prove to be the most dangerous to the World Government, so they tried to dominate them, like they always do, but failed so they (almost) wiped them out and erased memory of them. Only influential people like the yonkus, Gorosei, Rocks and Roger know such a race once existed.
Throughout the story, people had thrown strange remarks about Blackbeard, like how his body is odd or how he never sleeps. It's as if he's not HUMAN but belongs to a different race. Since this race is long gone, the vast majority of the world doesn't know such a race once existed, let alone know their capabilities, so when Blackbead is showing his race capabilities, it's alien to them and they don't know what to make out of it, hence the strange remarks he's been getting.
Would also explain why Blackbeard put a blanket on Whitebeard, so the world won't see that he is using his race capability of eating more than one devil fruit, which would promote the Gorosei to hunt him down for being far more dangerous than he, at that point of time, wanted to be perceived.

That drawing out the spirit from the body thing would explain why black beard’s crew attacks with a knife. Getting a sample of the body back to black beard may give him the ability to take the devil remotely.
Kaido said HAKI is the key, so in case Blackbeard has the ability to turn off your devil fruit powers, Luffy will beat him only with Haki. Wano exposed the power of HAKI to a new level, which means our captain will power up even more.

What if the awakening of the devil fruit allows the user to merge multiple people together and the previous user merged teach, xebec and another person together to save Xebec's life. If you go back to the chapter big mom and kaido clashed it was like she chose her words carefully because she didn't say that xebec died ...
Imagine Shiryuu awakened his devil fruit ability and making his whole crew invisible. I think that was why they stole the invisibility fruit. An unstoppable crew.
What if he never sleeps because his personalities sleep while taking turns, that way when one is tired, another Tags in and while two personalities sleeps in his conscience, the other is in control of his body, that must be why he is dangerous, he has a smart side, a violent side, and a trickster side maybe, his smart side allows him to sit back and wait for the moment, the tricky side allows him to trick people like the white beard crew, and the violent side allows him to take action and be as violent as possible as a danger to most. That’s my best theory lol thanks if you read this.

My theory is that Blackbeard is actually Rocks D. Xebec. The will of D is actually a clan of ancient people whose spirit reincarnate when they die. Generally the person who inherits the will or spirit might demonstrate that same traits as the person they inherited it from, but are unaware of the spirit. Luffy being a reincarnation of Joy Boy as an example. However, in Blackbeard's case, the spirit of Rock's was too strong and was able to communicate or partially take over his body. This caused the changes in his body mentioned by Marco, and could explain how he knew how to steal a devil fruit power before it transferred to another fruit.
The devil fruit that makes Blackbeard have three souls is called the devil devil fruit
I wonder what fruit Xebec used if he used one. The yami yami no mi would make sense. He had a crew of monsters, what better way to control them than making their devil fruits not effective against him. Plus it makes sense since 2 non-devilfruit users beat his crew.

The "they" they were referring to was his crew, it's not foreshadowing and they wouldn't randomly bring in 2 more brothers at the end of the series, he just has a weird ability and I think he found out how to pour a fruits power into his rings

this honestly explains why haki has been highlighted as much more important than having a devil fruit. Blackbeard says that when he touches a body of a devil fruit user they become normal weak humans, but I think that is when haki comes in and we all know how powerful haki is to the point where you can become the pirate king with JUST haki.

It's the Devil Fruit spirit that split into multiple fruits. Teach study the devil encyclopedia for years & noticed the connection between the devils fruit.

If anything that we learn so far from Wano Arc is not about Luffy gaining his Gear 5th, it's about him mastering his Haki. Cause in the end Haki is the only way to fight against Blackbeard.
Gear 5 gives him almost unlimited freedom with both Haki and DF
Blackbeard are actually a siamese triplets with one Body and 3 hearts (explaining his abnormal body) , OR they were to be born triplets and his twins died during delivery and they reincarnated their souls in the body of baby blackbeard giving him 3 personalities in total.
I think the fight between BB and Luffy will consist of BB consuming the Gomu-Gomu Nomi and gaining the most powerful Logia, Zoan, and Paramycia fruits all at once. Then the big fight will be a point that Luffy is the pirate king not because of the fruit, but because of his power, and he'll beat BB with all 3 Haki vs all 3 Fruits.

My personal head theory is that blackbeard has multiple personality disorders that manifest as actual different people or he is a triplet but his brothers died in the womb hence he and his brother spirit/souls fusions or trapped in blackbeards's body which i think explains how he can use more than 1 devil fruits

Minor point here, the image of Blackbeard's weapon at the 11.41 mark shows 4 blades, not three, at least for the image on the left, it's a lot harder to see for the one on the right... Are there any official images of Blackbeard's claw weapon sporting 3 blades?
Also should note, even if it was a 4 bladed claw, it still could've caused a 3-line scar, just means one of the blades didn't catch Shanks.

But I’ve animated before /drawn; and little details like that can be forgotten all the time like in a 1000+page/episode storyline black beard has been shows maybe 15-20 times and this is in a 20 +year span so details like that can be missed a lot . Remember oda is only human forgetting how something first started off can happen.
My favorite theory is he lets his darkness power out when he eats the devil fruit so when the devil comes out to try and take over, it’s just absorbed. She uses the big blanket to keep himself in total darkness, so it can’t escape
Knowing Xebec plays a huge role in stories to come, Blackbeard will be revealed to be his son. As Luffy is Dragon's son, Ace is Roger's, Blackbeard will be Xebec's son who promised to revive his father using Bonnie's devil fruit. I theorize Bonnie's awakened power is reversing and forwarding the age of things which Blackbeard can use to reverse the death of Xebec.
I bet he has Xebec's grave somewhere in that Pirate Island.

I like the idea of a Vegapunk experiment, I actually used that same idea like two or three years ago to make my own character who has the Paper Paper No Mi, and later on ends up being captured by The Beast Pirates, Kaido's crew, and they happen to have a spare Tiger Zoan devil fruit, and shove it down my OC's throat, which simply gives him the power of the tiger. Briefly explained later on after he is accidentally freed by the Strawhats that his DNA was spliced at a young age and split to create two strands of DNA structures in his body, which is the explanation for the ability to use two devil fruits.
I still believe that yami itself can absorb other fruits, when u said yes and no, the gura spirit obviously must've fought the yami one, what i think in my opinion is that the yami spirit is trapping the gura spirit with darkness therefore it's unable to fight and it's just a dormant devil
Anyone else think stuffing Moria’s shadows into luffy was foreshadowing for Blackbeard getting two devil fruits. More will power = more shadows and more will power = more than 1 fruit

They mentioned way back during the fight between roger pirates and white beard pirates how black beard didnt sleep his entire life and didnt sleep once even during their cease fires at night. So they're basically saying that black beard was triplets that have always been together but it doesnt seem like anyone from WB crew knew so how tf he keep both his brothers hidden all of those years. So even tho that makes no sense let's just skip to another part. Theres another one where people say that now BB keeps his brothers in his darkness and that's how he had 2 DF at one time basically darkness was him but the other one was his brothers arm. So does that mean black beard can put his own entire body in the darkness with one brother and let the other out or what. Idk about this theory they have some good points but I just cant get over the fact yeah it makes some sense how he can hide his brothers or switch places with one at a time NOW but he hasnt always had the darkness fruit so where tf was he hiding his brothers for the past like 20+ years before he got his DF.
Many people have underestimated the jacket devil fruit. It's like Luffy, Ace and Sabo hiding inside the overcoat. The inside people could eat the new fruits.

My personal opinion on this is, Blackbeard needed the fruit of darkness, which creates levels of darkness in his body. He is able to contain devil fruits at those different levels, when you think about the concept of darkness, it usually comes with "Devils" so he is able to control the Devils in the fruits and contain them in his body once the user is deceased. But while they are alive he has some control (i.e. his SHINRA TENSEI!, gravity pull) toward him. So pulling the devil inside closer, however i think once he has his 3rd fruit, he will lose that ability to pull/push. Darkness consumes all, since you've noticed the 3 thing rule he always seem to have, he must have 3 levels of darkness in his body, hence why its deformed. - Just raw thoughts, let me know what you think with this idea.
About half way through the video, you might bring it up but I'll say it anyway. I remember when Blackbeard was fighting Ace or someone, he's not able to turn his body into the darkness element like other Logia users are with their elements...and I believe he even mentions that he takes MORE damage than normally would which was odd for him to bring up. I believe his fruit is going to be a Mythical Zoan, I just have no idea what exactly he would be

It could be that Blackbeard is a medical Chimera, or someone who is born with two different sets of DNA. This is a very rare occurrence where two embryo's that would have made Paternal twins, or twins born from different eggs, end up merging instead to form a single baby. The resulting child will have two different DNA sets inside of them, as the embryo matter from both of them continue to grow and develop. So a child could have blood that contains one set of DNA, but their heart is made up of tissue from the absorbed twin, or even just parts of organs too.

I can understand the theory that Blackbeard has three devil fruit "holder" thingies, but one thing with the Cerberus theory is that Blackbeard had to transfer the Suke-Suke (Absalom's fruit) over to Shiryu, and so the Gura-Gura fruit or the Cerberus fruit had to be replaced or something like that. I believe Blackbeard's body had to serve as a medium of 3 devil fruits, with him already having the two we know, at this point in the story at least.

Maybe the original blackbeard is the scared personality, since he ate the fruit the other two have been guiding his actions and tormenting him at the same time. They probably forced him to always keep the power a secret ,only share the secret with the people they all agree with, or maybe he even tried at first to tell his loved or close ones and let's just say, the other two got mad, got involved and bad things happened.
So he never told a anyone again. That would be a terrifying and tragic backstory for blackbeard!!!
It's a great theory. But i think BB's 3rd DF might be an Asura derived from Hindu mythology. Asuras are considered as the Anti-God in hinduism and often described as "power-seeking" entities who controls the netherworld often depicted to have 3 faces. There's also a myth about Asura trying to acquire an elixir of immortality by "churning the oceans". There are are so many parallels with BB like controlling the netherworld which is essentially controlling darkness. And BB has the df that can literally "churn the ocean" with the Gura gura no mi. Plus the 3 face thing.

Blackbeard’s 3rd fruit will be a zoan from the dark depths below the sea in moon light to rival the bright zoan above the sea in the sunlight, The Kraken! Here’s why (Long comment incoming)
- The Kraken is a mythical creature so the Uo Uo no mi, Model Kraken would be a mythical zoan and Oda’s moon God
-Krakens dont only have three hearts, they they also have multiple heads in classic tales. A three headed kraken perfectly matches the 3 heads and 8 arms of his Flag
- Having three hearts would allow him to have 3 fruits like the popular theory says
- Kraken are often depicted with having ink and destroying everything which perfectly links to the Darkness and Quake fruits he has
- Kraken are sometimes called “Bearded Whales” which perfectly describes Blackbeard’s big bellied Human form
- Blackbeard is from an Ice country and the Kraken is from Norse (northern cold countries) mythology and said to haunt the seas of Iceland
- The Kraken being from Iceland would connect to Blackbeard getting that fruit first closer to his home in his origin
- Shanks is based on the Norse God Tyr who would a natural enemy of the Kraken
- Krakens feed on whales which would link to Blackbeard vs Whitebeard
- Krakens destroy and feed on crews and are accompanied by schools of fish which feed on the leftovers, exactly like Blackbeard and his men and their hunt for fruits.
- Squid don’t actually swim they float and just use their tentacles to steer themselves, perfect for someone with a fruit that makes them unable to swim. They have a pocket of liquid lighter than water inside them that allows them to float. Teach’s huge belly could easily be that and why he never realized knew fruit users couldn’t swim.
- The moon controls the waves of the sea IRL and the only thing that will be able to counter Luffy’s Gear 5th which literally bends reality and we will have Sun vs Moon/ Fire vs Water.

Best Theory: Blackbeard has the condition 'Fetus in fetu' (real life condition); He was born with his triplet brothers inside of him (look up Sanju Bhagat). He is a pregnant man that eats, drinks and breaths for his brothers living inside of him. When he ate his second devil fruit, it was digested and its power gained by his brother living inside of him. And because they share the same body, Blackbeard can use it.
Look at a picture of 'Sanju Bhagat', he has a massive belly and very skinny arms and legs and has a strong jaw-line, exactly like Blackbeard. Both of them are not fat anywhere except their belly. BB always has his belly on show also.
The story came out around 1998, and was a big Story in Asia. I'm sure Oda would have heard of the guy and thought to himself, what if both 'Sanju Bhagat' and his brother inside of him both had Devil Fruits? Thus he created Blackbeard.
