The THM was something of a weird place even when it was open. (Stayed there with my family a few times in the early-mid 90s, usually at Easter, so that indoor pool was very welcome! They always kept it lovely and warm.)
Owned by a Mr. Booth iirc, he was a UKIP councillor and anti-EU activist and as regular customers we used to get a Xmas card every year usually with some sort of political message 😂
Even then the place was dated, the rooms were stuck in the 70s / 80s, it could also feel quite creepy at night with all those long dimly lit corridors and dark little corners and stairways. I didn't like it after dark.
Those wood ceilings and carpets in the bar are just how i remember them, back then it was themed around rally cars and had lots of models and pictures of cars on the walls. My parents weren't really big pubgoers so we only went in a couple of times.
We used to stay there because it was quite cheap - there were 6 of us and not many places had big enough rooms for all of us. The interconnecting 'suites' seen at the start of the video were perfect for our big family.
(We also stayed in the Panorama flats in Paignton a few times, a huge old converted villa that's long-since been demolished, before settling on Waterside caravan park which as far as i know is still trading although quite run down these days.)
I grew up in the Midlands (kidderminster) but have lived in Leeds all my adult life and haven't been back to Torbay since 1998. From what I hear its changed a lot and lost its 'buzz', not sure i want to see it now tbh, the 80s and 90s were its heyday in many ways.
Can't believe the outdoor pool is still full, they drained the one at Sladnor Park (where we used to stay until it closed in '89), God know what's in there under all the slime. Lots of dead animals usually, the fall in and can't get out 💀
Nice explore, brought back some nice teenage memories for me 😊

The local vandals have destroyed the place, bet it was nice when it was a working motel, saw some pictures inside of how the swimming pools used to look like, been there a few times now and with every visit it get more and more wrecked, very sad too see

My Grandparents used to bring my brother and I here every year, thought I'd look it up and realised it's been derelict for years now. So upsetting 🥲 so many memories, might have to go and explore myself. I happen to live 5 minutes down the road now 😂

The place gets more and more smashed up every year, it’s been abandoned for years, always good to have one last look at the place 👍

@AbandonedAddiction Yea it was really interesting to watch you go through and recognising a few of the areas. The indoor swimming pool was the most memorable.
They also did this amazing Black Forest Gateaux cake I would get every time, was obsessed 😅 ended up knowing the staff pretty well, they were lovely.

Out on the Totnes Road. Suspect that's one of the reasons it closed tbh, it's too far out of town really and in a bit of an isolated spot.
