stumbled across your KSP vids a couple weeks ago and you got me back in to KSP, still fun after over a year without playing it. Thanks Matt PS I agree with your thoughts on craft creation, sometimes ill spend hours just creating craft after craft without ever even using them, just because design is fun.
And that's probably why KSP 2 is taking forever to come out... Because they have to compete with version one catching up to the graphics quality that ksp2 is supposed to be so fast
I played a lot during 2013-2014 and returning to the game in 2021 wasn't really that much of a shock. It is pretty much as it was (with mods that time). Other than the fuel tanks now looking all the same...
I swear to god Matt, you are the ultimate kerbal engineer. I honestly make sluggish and half-bad craft that sometimes destroy themselves. I've learned a lot about KSP through you and how to use tools etc. Keep up the exceptionally good work!
Hey Matt, I built my first SSTO the other day. After 5 years playing this game, I’m pretty proud. I couldn’t have done it without your videos, they’re so helpful. Thanks for everything!
I use those crafts you upload for practice. Helps to learn how to do the crazier things with a craft that can clearly do it, so when I give it a whirl to design it myself I know more or less what to do with my own craft and where to make changes. So I for one really appreciate the crafts you upload a boat load.
Your videos have helped me so much in the game. I now am confident in all of the missions I do. I've made my own Saturn V/Apollo style rocket and did the mission, created a space station, made a fleet of Falcon 9 rockets that I land the first stage (stock) and either do a crew launch (like crew dragon) or starlink (for big missions, gives communications network.) I created Gateway around the Mun and now send SLS to it, I made a Vega rocket and a Soyuz rocket for satellites. I am now preparing for a crewed mission to Duna after I was able to land a probe there.
I love your KSP videos, can't get enough of them. As someone who recently got into the game your videos have really taught me how the mechanics of the game work. I have reference them often when trying out new things. One question I did have is have you ever ran into a gimbal glitch with your engines? This has happened to me quite a few times and I can't figure out why . Sometimes I'll go to launch and the craft will not control at all. No movement what so ever, it only goes straight up. I'll zoom in on the engines and they aren't doing any gimbal action whatsoever. If I revert the flight back to the assembly building and then instantly click launch again it usually fixes it. The other day I was trying to take a Rover to the mun. The fight went well, however in my final stage the engines had no gimbal to them. Once again I reverted the flight to the assembly hanger, clicked launch without changing anything, and when I got to the final stage again there i had no issues with gimbal . Have you ran into this? is there a reason for this glitch to randomly happen? There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it but it's very frustrating when it happens
Actually Matt, the Sabre engine has actually been built and test fired. It hasn't been used on a rocket or an aircraft yet, but it definitely works and exists. As for wheels with motors, there's a mod called Kerbal Foundries which adds landing gear, rover wheels, caterpillar tracks... And landing gear with electric motors (yeah, I know, but you want to keep it to stock parts and physics). Also, I think but I'm not sure, that some aircraft have electric motors on the landing gear wheels to taxi without using the jet engines. Great design. I like the two T style vertical stabilisers with the horizontal stabilisers at the top.
Speaking of suicide burns - i guess Kerbal Engineer Redux have a tab "Landing", which allows you to see the exact time of suicide burn and even landing spot. Pretty cheaty tho.
How is it cheaty? Irl people are able to calculate to an INSANE degree of accuracy where they will be landing, nothing wrong with a plugin to do it in game. Its honestly weird to me that the stock game does not have some kind of computer or part that gives you a readout similar to kerbal engineer
Well, real rocket scientists trying to solve thousand times more complicated problems compaired to problems which we solving in KSP. Of course, real rocketry have a computers to deal with common and knowedgable things - but these things is exactly what KSP about, KSP have nothing more to deal with. So, solving that troubles and bring nothing more - is basically cheating.

The biggest reason I’ve used craft files is to figure out how hard flying a well-built craft of a given type is, to figure out whether I’m building something terribly or I’m just terrible at flying. Usually, I’m just terrible at flying.
Hey Matt, have you ever considered doing a mission with those Moho Probes? The ones with sizable fuel tanks built into them? I think it would be cool to see them get some love.
matt, i love your videos, be they tutorials, cinematics, or just regular "i did a thing i thought looked cool" videos, but for f*cks sake please take a quick radio talk/acting class. it doesn't have to be long or expensive or anything, just a crash course in how not to have a panic attack filling dead air. it's lovely hearing you talk, but it's also painfully obvious how stressful it is for you trying to record audio, talking over yourself, going on random tangents, self-deprecating, the likes. you're a right pro at what you do, you deserve to feel like it while you're doing it. thanks for all the great vids over the years, keep up the good work, and love yourself.
Just looked it up, apparently there is a relatively modern idea to motorize landing gear for taxiing purposes. Makes sense as it would help save fuel from being wasted while idling.
I'm 99.9% sure the blue haze mod on Minmus is Astronomers visual pack. It adds that haze for all bodies with no atmosphere I think, which I believe is to represent ablation of surface material from direct sunlight.

The SSTO (those that can actually get out of orbit too) I build are all towers, not planes. We need to focus on those that work not those that look neat. Unless you can manage both but functionality is still top priority.
Hey Matt... how on earth (or I should say Kerbin) do you aerobrake SO MUCH and you don't overheat by any means? I mean, on my Munar SSTO I use a Pe of 57 km, like you did, but everything starts to get dangerously toasty and my aerobrakes are nowhere near as "powerful" (not the word I was looking for but you get the point) as yours. I have to perform like 7 of them to fully kill my space orbit and get into a full-time atmospheric flight. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Or could someone else tell me about it? (Btw, my spaceplane gets toasty because it has the Mk1 inline cockpit and the Mk1 passenger cabin, and it has the "normal" wings, but EVERYTHING gets red, even the intakes and stuff) Please help!
i did NOT know you could have an experiment box onboard to "take data" from the experiments instead of having to have a kerbal do it manually. that wouldve made my ksp grounds science rover much easier to use. oh well, i love learning stuff about this game.
If you want to make a new Science save - please try out the Near Future mod pack together with USI and Community Tech Tree; it adds various new rocket and science parts, a great assortment of parts for space stations and life support for your Kerbals
I'm impressed they bothered with making the closed-cycle mode of the RAPIERs, you know, closed-cycle. They clearly didn't get much efficiency out of it, so imagine how bad a gas-generator version would be! Also, I always assumed it was "magne-TOM-eter," not "mag-NETO-meter," so TIL I guess.
