Interesting that Dr. Goddard focused on liquid rocket engines and not solid fuel, which are much simpler to design and build. But he surely is the Father of American Rocketry! Great video, thanks.

He did focus on solid fuel and it got him no where. Liquid fuel with liquid oxygen was more controllable and had more energy per measurement.

It's hard to imagine how groundbreaking this work was in its time. It doesn't look like much from today's standards.

the original film stock may have been Orthochromatic type, that is the possible explanation why the rocket is hard to discern from the white blown sky, as Orthochromatic film was excess sensitive to blue wavelength and sunlight exacerbated the footage over-exposure.

What really surprised me is that he used a gyroscope. And that it already existed. Awesome.

A video of a liquid fuel rocket when there were no man-made objects around or outside the earth... Very emotional.

Just to correct your knowledge (& not to boast/demean any country) Indian kings were the first to invent rockets.
It is Haider Ali and his son Tipu Sultan of Mysore kingdom, who invented and used world's first functional rockets during their rule in 1780's.
Tipu's army with the help of these rockets, defeated British in 1780 battle at Pollilur (Second Anglo Mysore War).
US congress with the help of French ,was curiously observing these developments in India at that time because US was against British and was seeking independence from them.
There is lot more in this World apart from US or Germany or British and their achievements. Non-western countries achieved greater feats, many centuries earlier.

@@-danR russia did not have a rocket before america . russia had a scientist who published a paper explaining how it could be done first . the first man to build it was goddard
