    This is great news. I have ridden many excursions at Niles Canyon Railway over the years. They are a great, fun group of people. I have even a done couple of rides before they moved to Niles from Richmond. For a short period of time, the SP 2472 ran in Niles Canyon for excursions. So this size of engine has made excursion runs in the canyon in the past. It will be fun to see the SP 2479 run again. Thank you for posting this video.

    Looks like south bay connect would need to happen for UP to have that whole area freed up but doing so would allow a really cool space.

    It's a good time to be a fan of espee.
    The Sacramento shops are being turned into a museum.
    7457 has been restored into her original as rebuilt SD45R condition.
    Of course 5021 and 4294 haven't gone anywhere, but they're being kept in good shape as always.
    And then of course there's the small fact that pretty soon there will be two running 4-6-2s, a 2-6-0 valley mallet, 4449 will as always represent the big passenger engines and 982 will soon hold the record as the largest operating Southern Pacific engine.
    In addition to the half-dozen first and 2nd gen diesels that have been or will be restored in the near future. 6051 and the black widows at niles being good examples.I
    Personally I can't wait to see those freight cars Niles has been beautifully restoring over the past few years behind 1744, and string of Harriman cars behind 2479, can you imagine the photo opportunities? Especially with the San Jose roundhouse now on the property.

    So, dear brother Henry Baum, where will the additional "roundhouse" be located? Will it be adjacent to the "Santa Clara roundhouse" in the Y at Niles, or maybe at Brightside (no space left there) or maybe the end of track in Pleasanton? Inquiring minds would like to know.

    • @tsgmultimedia
      @tsgmultimedia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Lenzen Roundhouse will be (re)built at Niles Wye.

    • @Fedora5957

      Yes, I know that but where will the roundhouse that Henry Baum mentioned be located?

    • @tsgmultimedia

      Niles Wye. There are plans for a small expansion to add stalls to the Lenzen roundhouse if memory serves...

      @@tsgmultimedia Thanks, that is good to know. Love to see some anticipated architectural versions-elevations of that complex. Hope a water tower is there too as well as at Sunol and maybe a third somewhere secure along the NCRy line.

    So just to clarify. The county will still own the roundhouse and the Locomotive? Not niles canyon? And the accociation will still be working on it?

      Santa Clara County has transferred ownership of all the historic assets from the fairgrounds to the PLA. If you watch the whole video, you will hear both Ken and Henry talk about it.

    Per this video...OUTSTANDING, AMAZING, ETC. I LOVE POINT A TO POINT B videos as what an "ass-breaking" endeavor this is. What I don't understand is that I've never heard of your organization until now, it looks like it's VERY well funded, organized, and what-ever. Seeing this, I will subscribe to your channel...(and just did). The more info. and videos, (of even the smallest thing), would be exceptional. I'm starting to look at donating to the GTWRHS, (or Grand Trunk Western Historical Society), in their efforts to re-furbish and operate GTW 5632, (another pacific), which now just sits outside of the Durand Union station and decay's by the minute. But there IS "move-afoot" to get the '32 up and on her wheels and running again.

    With the restoration efforts 80% to 90% complete, will the Southern Pacific #2479 be able to operate under steam in time for its 100th birthday?

    • @tsgmultimedia
      @tsgmultimedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No. There's no way it will be running next year. The PLA already has a project underway in the form of 2-6-0 No. 1744. The work will continue on 2479 and 1744, but 1744 is first on the list from what I understand.

    Glad she's getting to be restored. But I wish she could be converted into one of them crazy hot rodded T&NO P-14s 77 Inch boxpok drivers and made up into a mini GS-2/6. They were by God hot rodded man, they could hit 100 to 110 between Houston and Dallas on the Sunbeam.
