I typically hate when guests go on tangents and have abnormally long-winded answers, but Steve always blows my mind with how much information he can get into an answer. Joe hardly needs to talk and almost seems to be just as fascinated with listening to Steve as we are. Easily top 5 favorite guests.
Steve Rinella is my favorite guest. The way he presents himself, his knowledge and the fact that he seems like a down to earth guy. I really wish he was on more often.
Since I accidentally discovered this show I've seen every episode more than once and put it on before I go to sleep. It really does belong on a bigger platform.
I'm continually surprised at how much knowledge Rinella has, not just about hunting, but also about American history, wildlife, and other related issues. He's a fascinating guy. Hunts with him must be a blast. ....no pun intended.
This should basically be required viewing for all anti hunters or people who don't understand that hunters are actually the #1 support of all conservation efforts. Steven is an amazing human being and more people need to hear his message.,
Steve Rinella is a writer first and foremost. It is what he wants to be remembered as and when keeping that in mind while listening to him it becomes very apparent that this is what he truly is. A real opinion leader among outdoor intellectuals and a good cap to this past week of intellectually geared guests. Fucking love this guy!
The guy is amazing! I've read two of his books including the one on American Buffalo or Bison. Anyone remember the name of the show before Meat Eater where he went around the world hunting with various tribes?
Robert Tooker I also enjoy his voice and speech patterns. He sounds like a total "Bro" but is crazy smart. Idk. can't quite put my finger on it but there is something oddly likeable about his voice
Truly one of the all time best guests. Always has great stories and a wealth of knowledge about wildlife. Hancock and Carlson, Jordan Peterson and now this?
Only people that grew up using federal land truly know the uniqueness of public land. Steven is right on the money with his stance about resisting the privatization. Grew up in the Chequamegon National Forest, and I’ll shed tears the day I see where I hiked through those woods.. set up camp.. and hunted and fished be no longer public land.
If you like Steven Rinella, be sure to watch MeatEater on Netflix and give it a good review so that they'll get the rest of the show on there and pick up future seasons! Right now there's only 2 seasons, but Rinella has said the more people that watch it and give it good reviews the more likely it is they'll pick up the rest of the show. There are 2 episodes with Rogan on Netflix right now, one hunting deer and one hunting turkey. Season 5 episode 3 and 12, respectively. Show them some love!
Mr. Rogan, I'd like to thank you for having such icons of wildlife conservation as Steve Rinella Jim Shockey on your show. Men that show the true side of the hunting community and understand what wildlife conservation and preservation are. I'm not sure that I'll ever be able to have such a wide reaching impact as they do, but I'll be able to teach many students about the importance of hunting once I become an ag teacher here in Texas. I may well become a wildlife management and conservation major and see where that road leads as well. I hope that you continue to show how beneficial the efforts that we are making to preserve wildlife in this country and allow people to see that hunters aren't the bad guys like they usually seem to think. You're all inspirational to those of us who don't tend to speak publicly about these issues, and y'all need to how grateful us fellow hunters are for your public insight into what hunting truly is. Good luck on your next hunt, and thank you again.
I love Rinella. my goal is to do what he has done for backcountry hunting that I can do for Backcountry Fishing. Love that your in the brotherhood Joe!
After you have listened to several hundred JRE Podcasts you start to notice subtle things.. One of which is Joe is rarely the quiet one unless his guest truly captivates him.. Steve Rinella is a true Hunter/Outdoorsman/Historian and the literal equivalent of Joe with his passion for MMA and the history of the sport..
As a UK citizen, the American public land system is one of the things that's making me think of trying to find a way to move across the pond. I'm really envious of the access to nature, hunting etc.
"Carhartt? I'm not familiar." Joe just blew my mind with that statement! It's crazy to me how different some people grow up in this country alone. Not to mention the entire world
True story. In 8th grade I was big into air rifles. My drafting teacher was having trouble with his and I offered to repair it. He brought it to school and put me in a separate room during class. I even test fired the repair in the hallway twice. Would have been 1974. Different times. Love Rinella. Very articulate. Wish I were half that good at speaking.
Always a pleasure to hear Rinella talk. Man, ever since Steve announced on the MeatEater podcast that he was scheduled to make an appearance here sometime this month, I'd been waiting impatiently for it to air, refreshing the JRE feed every two weeks just to see if it'd been uploaded while I wasn't looking! Can't thank the crew enough now that it's finally out. 😋 Pure podcast gold.
That episode with no music and no game killed was also one of my favorites. Just showed a man in nature with self-reflection, reliving memories, and imparting some knowledge. All episodes I have viewed of meateater have been awesome and I have shared the show with people who have no interest in hunting and they are hooked. Keep on bringing home the game and cooking it up!
Steve Rinella best podcast guest of all time! Very interesting and a subject matter expert on hunting, wildlife, and history! Keep up the great conversations Joe & Steve
Happy to hear it's not just Canada with the whole season 5&6 release. I watched those two seasons in three days was happy and chomping at the bit for the first 4
This is the only recurring guest I've felt the need to go back through the years to watch all their JRE interviews. I watched an interview in 360p for Christ's sake. Rinella is the shit!
Instead of college, after high school you just need to watch all of Joe Rogan's Podcasts. Learn and discuss History, Geology, Anthropology, Philosophy, Psychology, Astronomy, Astrology, Health, Biology, You name it, you learn about it. awesome.

At 2:19 he talks about seeing his first lynx. I had that same experience with a small bobcat in buck season. We sorta just stared at each other for a few minutes and he walks off into the laurel thicket. I seriously think that I was the first human it had seen. This was probably 5 miles from a road in the Mon National Forest.
Rinella is a super sharp dude. His story about his teachers shotgun reminds me of my pops. He's 65 and always tells the story that he brought his 20ga shotgun to school in 7th grade to give a speech on firearm safety.
Carhartt blue collar? lol, that's one of the biggest yuppie brands I know of. Every teacher at my shitty liberal arts school was covered in that stupid brand.

Love the story about bluing the shotgun for his teacher and getting a .25 Auto for payment. I used to take my guns to school and leave them in my car all the time. The good old days

You gotta check out earlier ones Steve R has been on (i know this is an old post, but...) There's at least 3 .. there's still another one I wanna check out , This guy is good
If you MUST do a hunting themed podcast, do it like this ... :) This is full of knowledge about geology, biology, history ... Joe is a master of fine tuning his own craft without the ego getting in the way...
I’m only 23 but I brought an ak74 to school during industrial tech class and hand carved a cherry wood stock. I had to remove the bolt and they locked it in a cabinet when I was not there. It was a great experience and I managed to make a really really nice stock.
Winston Timmermans fuck yeah omg I've been watching that guy for years. Never seen anyone like him. Such a down to earth individual. Do they mention him in this podcast! If so what minute
I remember that joke, who did they say was his twin? I used to watch his videos but I feel like most of what he says is bullshit. I bet joe would have a lot to say about the advice elliott gives.
At 4:15, the Westworld scoring Joe mentions hating is actually an orchestral cover of the Exit Music for a Film song by Radiohead that Steve mentions just after...
The dingo (Canis lupus dingo) is a wild dog found in Australia. Its exact ancestry is debated, but dingoes are generally believed to be descended from semi-domesticated dogs from East or South Asia, which returned to a wild lifestyle when introduced to Australia. Both the dingo and domestic dog are classified as subspecies of Canis lupus in Mammal Species of the World.
This Steve Rinella guy is a fascinating person to listen to. I absolutely become entrenched into anything he has to say. His vocabulary is phenomenal and I feel like I’m learning something every time I listen to him. His MeatEater program on Netflix is also a great watch and I would give my left nut to go out in the field with this guy just to shoot the shit or run down some game.
Word. He probably makes some people uncomfortable when dabbling into his territory but... yeah. Always fun to listen to. If you haven't, you should try some of his podcasts, Meateater Podcast. It's really good a lot of the time. (Gold seal right there.)
This is my favorite podcast so far! Love the discussion about Yellowstone, the bison in it and what Montana does to them. The hunting talk is also great, Steven is a very interesting guy. Just bought 2 of his books to read while sheep hunting in the Yukon this summer.
Rinella talking about like 1860-1920s wilderness is my favorite. That mountain man/Lewis&clark type of history is fascinating

There's at least 3 .. there's still another one I wanna check out , This guy is good
I FUCKING LOVE LISTENING TO RINELLA TALK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Easily the best voice and mind for the hunting community!!
If you MUST do a hunting themed podcast, do it like this ... :)
This is full of knowledge about geology, biology, history ...
I second getting Elliott Hulse on, that would be awesome
Winston Timmermans fuck yeah omg I've been watching that guy for years. Never seen anyone like him. Such a down to earth individual. Do they mention him in this podcast! If so what minute
Fuck him and his twin. We need Rich Piana on and have Jason Genova on at the same time.
+Sick Revolting Piss He doesn't have a twin. Look him up, ur talking about a differet guy
I remember that joke, who did they say was his twin? I used to watch his videos but I feel like most of what he says is bullshit. I bet joe would have a lot to say about the advice elliott gives.
Winston Timmermans e
I love listening to Steven Rinella...his conversational depth of subject is impressive. (Joe Rogan not so much.)
At 4:15, the Westworld scoring Joe mentions hating is actually an orchestral cover of the Exit Music for a Film song by Radiohead that Steve mentions just after...
Lmao
The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy have a banjo space theme 😂
The dingo (Canis lupus dingo) is a wild dog found in Australia. Its exact ancestry is debated, but dingoes are generally believed to be descended from semi-domesticated dogs from East or South Asia, which returned to a wild lifestyle when introduced to Australia. Both the dingo and domestic dog are classified as subspecies of Canis lupus in Mammal Species of the World.
I am 22 and I have used postal in context before. Lol. Give us a little credit there Joe. We're not all idiots.
I liked Steven Rinella the minute I watched the first Meat Eater episode !
I LOVE this guest! Super freak'en knowledgeable
We're getting spoiled with these last few podcasts.
Going out to the deer blind this morning I know what I'm going to listen to.
