    Thank you for the instruction. Sometimes while playing my hand just cramps up and the second stretching exercise helped me loosen it up.

    Thank you. Before this video, i found that the most intuitive way for me to try stretching was the way you said not to.
    As my wrist pain was persistent, I ended up here. The stretches you showed instantly made my wrist feel better.

    Great and very helpful. I will look up your other videos and book.
    I'm especially interested in info on the right shoulder, since that's where I tend to have the most discomfort (probably even more from my job clicking a mouse all day than from playing bass). With picking technique, should most of the motion come from the wrist, elbow, or shoulder?

    Hello, I am 50, I have had Carpal Tunnel (or however you spell it) surgery about 8 years ago. About 2 year ago, while playing a gig, my hand just collaped on itself (right hand). Ever since, I've had poping in the wrist area and finger stiffening while plucking my bass strings. I have been to a couple of doctors the last year, and they said, too much playing, not enough rest, but, both, said it could be tendonitis, the beginning of arthritis, or Carpol Tunnel comming back (which would suck). I was wondering if there are any stretches or even certain food that would help this problem. Thank you so much sir. Good info video.

      Check whether you are consuming preservatives like sodium benzoate, parabens in your processed food. I am telling from my experience. Preservatives in food causes wrist pain as it causes nerve damage (as some are allergic or sensitive to preservatives). Please check.

    I have flexor tendinitis in my
    Middle finger left fretting hand-and after 1 or two more shots-already had one-my dr is suggesting tendon surgery.I’m in PT now and getting lots of treatment but outside of therapy which doesn’t address my playing mechanics directly, what could I possibly be doing wrong other than trying to spread or press too hard on the strings? No wrist issue at all but perhaps some minor golfers elbow is happening because my fretting elbow tends to pull inwards probably to leverage a bit more finger pressure. I currently have .105s on my viola bass and am considering the following-lighter strings so I can eventually resume slowly, and I want to know what the proper angle of fretting elbow is for playing bass. Any insights you could share?

    Any other guitarists battling trigger finger? or better yet, CURED it?
    Touring solo guitarist here fighting trigger finger 8+ months now (middle finger--Left/fretting hand!). Already done usual PT, ice, heat, cortisone shots, oral & topical anti-inflammatories, even forearm muscle-scraping, ultrasound, acupuncture...Trying to avoid surgery (had carpal & cubital tunnels in both arms yrs ago; 18 MONTH post-op rehab/pt was a nightmare, and never quite the same)
    Any success, advice, words of warning?? Thanks!

      Like most activities, streching before is often helpful. I addition You might want to do this at different times during you day to keep things limber. Thanks for watching and for your input! Please feel free to Like, Share and Subscribe to our channel.

    Do you recommend doing this before or after playing?

    • @BassMusicianMagazine
      @BassMusicianMagazine  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can ask Dr Kertz directly but I would think that before wound be the best. (Think of streching before any physical activity to lessen the chances of injury). It probably would not hurt to do it after playing as well but it would be of less impact. Thanks for watching and for your input! Please feel free to Like, Share and Subscribe to our channel.

      Ive met him before and had good discussions with him;
      ; the problem in my case is i broke my right forearm in 2 places; Ive done and tried everything; HIs book is very infomative but was alot common sense to me;
      Ive been researching how to deal with my issues for over 5 years; But for others unaware his book is great general introduction to common injuries I totally agree with you........... Ive tried floating thumb but there is a definite tone diffrence in my opinion resting the forearm on bass versus the "bent" angle; it creates different angles for your fingers to hit the strings; there are many techniques that lack my ability to produce variances in tone , dynamics, articulation; ..... I will have to not play for and while and ice and think my main issue is tension or i will have to adapt cause of my injury 15 years ago ..... Peace!
