    This is a great plant. Can you tell me how you got it to grow vertically as opposed to horizontally? Is there something propping it up? Also, why are the roots outside of the pot?

    • @ConejerosEmBrasil
      @ConejerosEmBrasil  10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The leaves of this plant spreads in all directions but you can cull some of them to force the type of shape or silhouette of your preference. To support it from falling and maintain its upright posture you must help its stem tying it with a rope on a stick, thin plastic tube, wooden rod etc. The entangled roots that you can see here we don't have idea of its real purpose and we don't cut them. Thanks for your comments... where are you from? Because here in Brazil, with its tropical climate, absolutely all types of plants grow vigorously.

    • @inesap4ever
      @inesap4ever 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** Thanks for your video, just to share my experience regarding the entangled roots, this plant needs them to climb and to get more humidity. If they are in a pot and are regularly watered, roots can be cut, and the plant usually gets stronger after that. If the plant is outdoors you can cut some for aesthetic purposes, but it is better to water them or have them placed on an humid surface.

    What type of water and amount of fertilizer is needed? I have a new one and it's small but some of the leaves are brown on the ends. I was told to give it more light and water it only with rain water. Well it does not rain much where I live.

    • @chumleyk
      @chumleyk 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brown ends could mean super hard water or over fertilisation, either way it's a collection of nutrients salts that over time build up at the end of leaves. Plant gangrene. Either that or bacterial infection but that's more prolific on the leaf.

  • @SuzyTilley
    @SuzyTilley 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a question. I have a young split leaf and it's beginning to out-grow it's current pot. What is a good or ideal size of pot for it so it can grow into the tree?

    • @Bluebirdd
      @Bluebirdd 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you really want it to grow into a tree, you should technically plant straight into the ground. Because the bigger the "pot" the larger the plant. And by planting them in the ground, they'll get to do all sorts of climbing which is what they're notorious for :)

    • @chumleyk
      @chumleyk 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Repot a couple of extra inches in pot size every year until you get to your desired size.

      It's just an Americanism. Monstera were cool in the 70s and 80s, and then philos came into fashion. To get monsteras trending again they just referenced the philo craze. Silly huh.

I already get how to make new plants from this. I need to know how to save the one I now own.

      Description of this TH-cam channel:
      Very short videos, usually between 50 and 90 seconds long, of a single plant, bush, tree or flower where you can observe details and explore aesthetic possibilities, especially designed for gardeners, decorators, interior designers, botanical students and landscape designers. They could also help you to find out its proper popular name or scientific or Latin designation.
      Two great ideas of how you can use these short high definition plant movies :
      - To embed or syndicate on your site or blog because they contain neutral backgrounds, without any nuisance such as a bottom to interact or written/spoken text to spoil and ruin your very particular presentation.
      - Consider the possibility of the frame-to-frame option to obtain the best picture in high definition for your specific working.

      +Marie Stoves The less light you give it the smaller the leaves and slower it grows. You can also cut the plant if it gets too tall. I've cut my plant in half twice and repotted it.
