In neither of those instances was goku on his last legs. He withdrew from his fight with cell because the best he could do was fight to a draw and you would have to be specific about when he fought black. Also, if I'm not mistaken, black only exists in the first place because of time traveling shenanigans.... soooooooooo even steven.
