I wanted to do something for The Fragile's 23rd birthday last week. This was one of the first NIN songs I analyzed. I think I'd have a pretty different take on it now. I've learned so much these past 2 years. But what hasn't changed is how much I love this piece of music. I've been wanting to play it properly on piano for awhile. After I played it I was feeling kind of critical of my performance - like I could have done so much better. And maybe I could have but the next day I listened to it with much kinder ears and decided it captured the emotion I wanted to express and I think that's the whole point. Hope you enjoy it!
Given the timing with the reunion of all the old members I think I should mention this. Thank you ixi for all you've done the last two years. You helped rekindle my love of NIN and got me to listen to some great things I had missed. I was a huge fan of The Downward Spiral, Broken, and Pretty Hate Machine. But then I moved on. It wasn't until seeing one of your videos that I finally went back and listened to The Fragile, Hesitation Marks and the other albums. The Fragile is easily one of my favorites. If you've faced adversity and trauma then you can connect to Trents pain and struggle. I know I have. I wish I hadn't missed this but I'm glad I found it. Thank you.
Beautiful at 2.58. And again at 3.40….and 4.30 section is genius. I love your mind. I wonder, will you be doing a Fragile reimagined? I for one would get a lot of joy from that 🙏🏻
Gosh ... I'm not sure what to say. I just closed my eyes and listened. Played with so much emotive character and passion, that this music is immensely important to you is evident and is quite moving.indeed.
I ate mushrooms in highschool with friends and we listened to this song like 15 times In a row. I'm pretty sure it burned a hole into my psyche and it forever became a song that reminded me of the inner depths of my soul. Thanks for this ❤️
I ♥ how you moved the rising synth string motif where he sings "Ocean pulls me close, and whispers in my ear" and used it in the end in the "I can still feel you..." part instead, that was very moving.
A perennial favourite NIN track, that you've paid tribute to and added your own lovely embellishments to. Wonderful work - it's been so cool to see you evolve as a critic and as a musician in your own right!
Absolutely captivating. Love this track but you've created something new. We can hear your personal connection with the music. Thank you. 🐚 You're amazing.
After really only knowing the NIN songs I have on Rock Band, my wife just "discovered" The Fragile for the first time, (her new favorite album,) and this song is one of her faves; I can't wait to play your version for her. It's excellent. I know I've made her listen to parts of the album over the last twenty years, but this time it finally clicked. I've enjoyed watching and sharing some of your videos with my wife ("Is it the lipstick lady again?") Keep up the great work!
I hate to ruin the "69 comments" but I absolutely love this improv. It's one of my all-time NIN faves (and therefore near the top of my collective faves anyway) but this is a beautiful expansion on the theme. Plus, as always, I'm just blown away by your playing. As a mere two-finger player/button pusher/knob tweaker, I am in awe.
All of your personal touches through these are so wonderful.... As long as I've been enjoying your work, I've never heard your take on The Great Below..... I suppose tonite was the night. Absolutely brilliant. I've sent it to several of my loved ones. And I've listened to it tonite more times than I can count. Makes me cry. And I have nothing to be sad about. Very well done. Thank you.
Your incredibly beautiful rendition of the great below came once again in my feed. I know I commented the first time, and yet I have to repeat myself that what you have done with a song that means so much to my life story is nothing short of wonderful. Your command of a piano, and your ability to be one with music is something that all I am able to summarize is..... Thank you. Thank you so very much. I hope you are having a blessed evening.
Bravo. Very special, so brilliantly interpreted. It's revealing of Trent's genius and yours as well. I actually felt the music more than when I listen to the original. Thank you. Secretly hoping for (versions) of all the Fragile songs.🥀
Love how you incorporated the live vocal melodies during the "even so far away" parts. One of my all time favorite songs and you pulled it off beautifully.
Thank you for this. La Mer and The Great Below are probably my favorite conjoined NIN tracks as well and you captured a beautiful and emotive performance of the latter. I couldn't help but sing along with eyes shining.
This was my best friend's favorite Nine Inch Nails song. I have heard several attempts at arrangement of it for the piano, but this has been the only one that has captured the emotion of the original music. Utterly fantastic work, ixi. You would be an amazing music teacher if you aren't already. You are the first person who has ever been able to articulate the theory and mechanics of music in a way that resonates with me while simultaneously allowing me to 'grok' it, and you do it by explaining how the sounds and chords in Trent's music make us feel. I've always wanted to learn how to play the piano, but never had the opportunity as a child. You make me desperate to learn more.
You should do it! The Frail, Another Version Of The Truth, and A Warm Place are great for beginners. I have sheet music for a couple of those here: musescore.com/user/37383846 Sheet music is a whole other thing (never my strength) so watching people play and learning by ear is another great way to learn. th-cam.com/video/y5dklAbvDFo/w-d-xo.html
Gorgeous. One of my favorite Reznor compositions re-imagined in such a way that is all beautiful, unique and faithful to the original. Thank you for opening up and sharing that with us, Ixi.
IXI! … Wow! … you are fantastic … and I find myself listening to All of your NIN videos more and more… Thank you for what you do… you make my life better…. thank you. 😔
Great job. IDK how you do it. Some small parts felt a bit jazzy, but i think that' because trent used to be in a jazz band. Speaking of jazz you should listen Diana Krall - "Almost Blue ", I think you'd really like how she plays the piano in that song.
Ixi, this is probably the wrong place to pitch a video request, but the great below reminded me of that theme Trent has gone back to time and time again. I wish I could give specifics on it... but you hear this theme/melody/phrasing come back and develop in completely separate songs--even with HTDA. I think you have even mentioned it before. But if you know what I am talking about, please consider making a video on all the songs and exploring that theme.
Also, ixi, I realized I was watching your keys upside down a couple of times on your breakdown/instruction videos. Have you thought of adding a midi piano keys highlighter to the future episodes. I know its conversational but not everyone is a pianist and we will all be at different levels.
Yes! I do that sometimes with the overhead camera, but I just got a program that highlights the keys I'm playing when I'm demonstrating something. You'll see it on some future vids!
Lovely performance ixi 🌹 Hello to your new subscriber all the way from Korea! I've come across once on your livestream listening to Enigma and i am wondering if you're going to do another Enigma party livestream but this time with 8th album The Fall Of The Rebel Angel? Keep up with the wonderful content! ❤
Have you delved into Gary Numan’s music yet? He and Trent are both very influenced by one another. And now one of Numan’s daughters has written an album, herself.
Hi Ixi. I typed "create a nine inch nails song for me " in chatGTP and this is what it gave me: Verse 1: I'm trapped inside this endless maze A prison built of my own design I'm drowning in this endless haze Lost in the corners of my mind Chorus: I'm a shadow of the man I used to be A ghost that's haunting my own soul I'm a prisoner in my own misery A puppet with no control Verse 2: I've tried to break these chains that bind But they're too strong, too tight, too real I'm screaming out but I can't find A way to make myself feel Chorus: I'm a shadow of the man I used to be A ghost that's haunting my own soul I'm a prisoner in my own misery A puppet with no control Bridge: The pain inside is all I know It's the only thing that's left of me I'm drowning in this endless flow Of memories that won't set me free Chorus: I'm a shadow of the man I used to be A ghost that's haunting my own soul I'm a prisoner in my own misery A puppet with no control Outro: I'm lost inside this endless night A slave to all my fears and doubts But maybe someday I'll see the light And finally find my own way out. Make music for this 💓💓💓💓💕💕💘
So glad to have found your channel. I listened to the improves playlist just yesterday. I checked out the studio version first and thought there's no way you'll make something from it. 🤍

23 years? Wow. Still on my rotation, though. You sounded great! Thank you for sharing your work.
I haven’t listened yet…but I like this comment already, and I know it will be delightful
Beautiful at 2.58. And again at 3.40….and 4.30 section is genius. I love your mind. I wonder, will you be doing a Fragile reimagined? I for one would get a lot of joy from that 🙏🏻
This is my most favorite NIN song of all time. Very special song. That was beautiful.
It is truly a timeless and important work of art!
I'm sure Trent would be proud, and I hope you can meet him one day, if you have never, and share in each other's love of music
The Great Below has always been the song I want played at my funeral one day. this was beautiful. it gave me chills.
This performance is when the passion goes hand in hand with skill and talent. My absolute favorite from nine inch nails!
Gosh ... I'm not sure what to say. I just closed my eyes and listened. Played with so much emotive character and passion, that this music is immensely important to you is evident and is quite moving.indeed.
Listening to this in a lonely hotel room in Paris. Perfect fit. Thank you very much, Ixi.
I ate mushrooms in highschool with friends and we listened to this song like 15 times In a row. I'm pretty sure it burned a hole into my psyche and it forever became a song that reminded me of the inner depths of my soul. Thanks for this ❤️
I just have to say... That is the 'devil may care' crash-course in consciousness expansion, and I salute you.
I ♥ how you moved the rising synth string motif where he sings "Ocean pulls me close, and whispers in my ear" and used it in the end in the "I can still feel you..." part instead, that was very moving.
I appreciate that.
Trent is going to see this and love it.

NIxiN style
Such an underrated album. Some of Trent’s best work, and yours as well!
Absolutely captivating. Love this track but you've created something new. We can hear your personal connection with the music. Thank you. 🐚 You're amazing.
Thank you!
This video deserves far more attention than it currently has
I can still feel you...even so far away...
This is a beautiful rendition.
Full-mind blown 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 beautifully composed. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This made me cry. The original does the same to me. Thank you. It's so beautiful.

Best version I’ve ever heard!

Absolutely beautiful. You've extracted the dynamic elements of an innocuously haunting song so succinctly.
much appreciated!

Wow... just wow.
Never heard anything like that.
Captivating
What a great rendition, thank you ixi! Such a beautiful song, you should do something similar with “Leaving Hope”.
Love how you incorporated the live vocal melodies during the "even so far away" parts. One of my all time favorite songs and you pulled it off beautifully.
Thanks. I think I might have pulled in some of the variations he does when he performed this live! Like when he goes down instead.
Well done, ixi, i love the counter movements towards the last 3rd of the recording. Sounds so crisp.
Thank you for this. La Mer and The Great Below are probably my favorite conjoined NIN tracks as well and you captured a beautiful and emotive performance of the latter. I couldn't help but sing along with eyes shining.
My favourite NIN track - beautiful work :)
Completely stunning, and I had to sing along at the peak of the song.
Awesome playing!! 👍🎹👍
Beautifully played it's awesome! ❤
😭 Amazing rendition

Lovely and haunting. Captures the tone of the original piece very well while at the same time having that ixi flavor. Well done!
This was an amazing version of the song. Loved it
So beautiful, chills! Thank you for performing this and happy birthday to the fragile. 🎉❤
Gorgeous. One of my favorite Reznor compositions re-imagined in such a way that is all beautiful, unique and faithful to the original. Thank you for opening up and sharing that with us, Ixi.

Nicely done! 👍

Breathtakingly beautiful! 😭❤
♥️
This is SO delicious. Thank you, Ixi.
Such an amazing interpretation of this track
Less moody, more adventurous, like I'm on a deep sea journey in a tiny submersible :)
🌊
This was excellent! Reminds me of Tori, speaking of her lately on the channel.
Wow. This gave me all the right feels. Great job!
This is stunning. Thank you so much! 🙏✨
Ugh, so good! 💗 Thank you 🎶

Thank you! I don't have plans for more ENIGMA on my channel at the moment but I should listen to their more recent work - I'm curious!
Wow
that was pretty good actually
2nd only to the original but this is an absolute masterpiece.
You need to breakdown NIN The Background World. That song is very unique to the NIN discography.
This is so much more artistically strong than the view count would suggest.
NIN has all was been my favorite...wondering if you could review or play through of Leaving Hope...
Yes! th-cam.com/video/BNXhCVWu1TY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ibzPZQUlpJJRyl8G
Fucking magnificent!
All of this for you
Wow intense
Афигенно!!!!
I'd be lying if I said I share your enthuiasm for NIN, but I've enjoyed pretty much some of your other videos on other artists.
What piano sounds are we hearing? Korg?
Steinway Grand in Logic Pro X! I'm just using the keyboard as a MIDI controller.
Or have a camera pointing down at the keys to switch to.

Hi Ixi. I typed "create a nine inch nails song for me " in chatGTP and this is what it gave me:

I'm drowning in this endless haze
Lost in the corners of my mind
Chorus:
I'm a shadow of the man I used to be
A ghost that's haunting my own soul
I'm a prisoner in my own misery
A puppet with no control
Verse 2:
I've tried to break these chains that bind
But they're too strong, too tight, too real
I'm screaming out but I can't find
A way to make myself feel
Chorus:
I'm a shadow of the man I used to be
A ghost that's haunting my own soul
I'm a prisoner in my own misery
A puppet with no control
Bridge:
The pain inside is all I know
It's the only thing that's left of me
I'm drowning in this endless flow
Of memories that won't set me free
Chorus:
I'm a shadow of the man I used to be
A ghost that's haunting my own soul
I'm a prisoner in my own misery
A puppet with no control
Outro:
I'm lost inside this endless night
A slave to all my fears and doubts
But maybe someday I'll see the light
And finally find my own way out.
Make music for this 💓💓💓💓💕💕💘
