  • Fishing on the Vendetta July 10, 2016. James Wie and Lou Paz hooked up on 80lb. bluefin off San Diego offshore. There were many bait balls of anchovies all around us but none were biting on our sardines. James and i used surface irons and cast it in the middle of the freinzy,

    Seeing the idgit kick the tuna on the belly after it was on the deck was very odd. Anger management issues or simple mindedness?

      You need to go on a 10 day long range fishing trip and pull on a 200 pound yellowfin tuna. It is awesome!!!!!!

    Those guys in the small private boat should have moved off in respect after seeing the angler hooked up with a great fish.

      It was crazy here. When anglers heard about the bigger bluefins in the area. It was fee for all!!! they didnt care about anybody. people were literally almost ramming their boat against other boat who got in their way.

      Most of the Blufin I have hook take several horizontal runs before they settle down and dive deep. Another boat that is too close can ruin a great day.

    That's an 80lb baby, do you know how big these fish get?

    • @lpazxxsh
      @lpazxxsh  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      i know in the east coast they get over 1000lbs. but here in the pacific maybe 600Lbs. They were catching 250+lbs
      in August in US waters. Its November now and they are still catching blufin over 100Lbs. Im going this weekend on the New Lo-Ann for a 1.5 day< theyre using live squid on this trip. I'm bringing my heavy gear this time. Theyre biting on 80Lb mono.

    • @icimblind
      @icimblind 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here in Atlantic Canada they're massive. In the fall you can charter a boat and do a catch and release. Licensed fishermen can keep one per yr. Check out this video. th-cam.com/video/EunuDZKnydI/w-d-xo.html

    The guy who caught the last big fish had a hard time trying to handle the fish, the problem is the longer the rod the more the fish punishes the fisherman.

      Danny Gib That's a stupid statement. I go out there a lot and red and feel fishermen aren't even putting a dent in the Bluefin population. The problem is the Mexican Seiners.

    nice vid i took a 110 pound bluefin on a triny 16 narrow 50 pound powerpro 30 pound flro leader and it about killed me...great fish

    • @lpazxxsh
      @lpazxxsh  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      those bluefins fought hard. I had it on a 40lb mono topshot with a 2speed torque 30LD reel. My biggest fish before this was a 45lb yellowfin. The mono scrapped against the boat when it went under and so i didnt want to pull too hard or put the reel into full strike. My back was already hurting so i handed it to Nick. We were just a group of friends so there were no jackpot involved so i had no problem handing it over. I had the pleasure of gapping it tho.

      Reel was a Penn torque, a good rod to pair for this application would be a UC GP80Predator.

    What boat?

  • @doctoredable
    @doctoredable 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Letting the first fish caught bounce around on the deck is not what a first class deck would allow. Every time that fish beats its body on the deck the flesh bruises. Not really important if you intend to can it.

    • @Briguy1027
      @Briguy1027 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can it????? That's bluefin, if you can you pith it, bleed it, and get it into an RSW tank ASAP and hopefully enjoy it as sashimi.

    • @doctoredable
      @doctoredable 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A slush bath is even better than RSW for rapid chilling. Depends on the boat but the one I went on did not take very good care of the BFT we caught.

      @doctoredable 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Fish do not "try" to spit hooks. They simply come out.

    • @MegaStairman
      @MegaStairman 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      yes they do...they shake their heads repeatedly....ever see a dorado jump and shake it's head....in fact most fish try to get rid of the hook
