3:20 "Order a sump pump and you will thank me for it." I did order one, and I thank you for the advice. It makes things so much easier. I ordered a lab use pipette for 40 bucks on Amazon. Worth every penny, and so handy. I use it every few days.
In my experience, the plant food can buffer the Ph of the water as well. I would add the plant food first and then buffer the water wo the correct Ph level with Ph Up or Down as needed. Great video though.
I really found this useful. I’m trying to compare iHarvest to Gardyn especially in ease of cleaning. In your cleaning the Gardyn it appeared that it was a lot more difficult with removing screws and a lot more parts. Do you need to clean the backside or pump of the iHarvest? I would like to know how difficult this is and if it’s needed?
For both systems, I recommend you to do a deep cleaning twice a year.( Deep cleaning = taking apart everything and clean) iHarvest is definitely much easier to clean thoroughly. There are no screws to be unscrewed. Gardyn has intricate parts, therefore it requires more work. I will do a deep cleaning video for the iHarvest once I am done with my current crop. From 1 to 10, 1 being the easiest to be cleaned, Gardyn is a 10 and iHarvest is at a 5. Hope my answer helps.
I just keep refilling water until the crops are done, and then I take apart everything and clean if it gets really dirty, usually every 6-8 months. I recommend pump out all the water and refill with new fresh one every 3 months. That way the nutrient is balanced. You can wait till the water is low to pump everything out so that you don't waste much. Happy planting!
Thanks for your really-informative videos! (We used your coupon code--since you earned it :) Quick question. Why didn't you use the iHarvest's pump to transfer the water into a separate container? I must be missing something?
You can use iHarvest pump. I just don't want to keep detaching and attaching the pipe and get my hand wet. I have many other systems that I need to fill water on a regular basis. Using a separate sub pump works better for me.
@@plant4table Ah... I see. Before I commented I had watched the video of you doing the deep cleaning, where you disassemble the entire unit. When you're just doing a basic cleaning, I can see that removing the pump, cord, etc., would make less sense. Thanks again--
The foil is to block out the light, so that algea won't grow inside of the system. I would check the water every 2 weeks, when you top off the water. Over time, I don't check as often because I know how much nutrient to put in.
I really like these videos - I’m considering purchasing an iHarvest or a Gardyn system and your videos are helping me make the choice. I’m learning toward the iHarvest for ease of cleaning/maintenance. I’m curious - what is the air temperature of your basement? I am in the north, and my basement is usually about 60 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter months. In your experience, would that be too chilly?
According to my Gardyn app, the temperature is 69 and humidity level is at 62%. 60 degree is most likely okay for plants. Any lower than that you might have to intervene. In fact, lettuces do better in cooler temperature. However, germination might be a problem at 60 degree. You might want to sprout seeds in a warmer environment first, then put them into the Gardyn/iHarvest.
@@plant4table thank you for your response! After all your videos and advice I went ahead and ordered the iharvest system using your promo code. Thank you! Excited :-)
Yay, glad I could help some what in the decision making. I am about to take my iHarvest down to clean and start a new crop. It is always exciting every time I grow new things .
Would you add links to the items in the video like the wave maker and extra pump? I have a circulator, but it looks like your moves water better. Thank you!
I ordered an iharvest using your link but it is back ordered until march. Do you have a link to the covers(color) you have on the baskets. Also, what label system do you use and is it easy to change the labels when you grow a different item?
I bought the clone collar from Amazon www.amazon.com/dp/B07KHLX4GP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_R7SB3ADC8ZGDEWFHNF8X Regarding the label maker, it is just a simple one I bought from craft store when it was on sale. It is less than $15. It is easy to peel off after you are done. You can just type in " label maker " when searching on Amazon. It is very easy to use.
The main reason I use a wave maker is to stir the nutrient in the water so that the residue doesn't sit at the bottom of the reservoir. The air stone is not necessary because the purpose of an air stone is to provide oxygen, not to create movement. For that reason, I recommend a wave maker.
I would like to see more detail in the set up and using the wave maker inside the iharvest. very informative. thank you!
Just bought my iHarvest. Your videos helped me decide which system I wanted. Thanks
Great video, very practical. It is good to see the nitty-gritty of what has to be done to maintain the system.
Wow the fish tank was BEAUTIFUL!
So helpful!! Love the tank, I have a Red Sea coral tank myself. I enjoy the pulsing Xenia you have there.

Ordering a sump pump👍🏾 thanks
Thank you so much. Very helpful
I am glad
How often do you clean your water reservoir? just when you change out your plants or every month like some grow gardens?
Thank you.

where did u bought the colored plugs at 00:52 ? I really need them! thks
It's called cloning collar www.amazon.com/dp/B07NX1BZS5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_tTDTFbYRRJM13
Why do you recommend aluminum foil for the net cups?
And how long does it take to test & adjust the PH and add those various chemicals?
The foil is to block out the light, so that algea won't grow inside of the system. I would check the water every 2 weeks, when you top off the water. Over time, I don't check as often because I know how much nutrient to put in.

Love this video. It's super helpful. What variety of Bok Choy is that?
It's called tatsoi. It has beautiful shape, fans out like a rose.

@@plant4table I found it easier to find the seeds under the name Rosette Bok Choy. Hopefully this helps someone.

@Tanitia Colter I put it inside the reservoir
Do you prefer the iHarvest or Gardyn?
I personally prefer Gardyn. However, it doesn't make it a better choice. I laid out my reasons in this video th-cam.com/video/Yw2-vSvp0oI/w-d-xo.html
