Gain a deeper understanding of Matthew and his message of Jesus through its historical background, then apply its message to your life and Bible study today. Matthew’s Gospel was originally written to Jewish Christians who were facing unique challenges, and asking questions about Jesus as the promised Jewish Messiah. Matthew sets out to prove both to them and to us that Jesus is the promised Messiah spoken of in the Scriptures, and that His kingdom will encompass all nations. Matthew’s life is a testimony that Jesus’ invitation extends to all people!

    APPLICATIONAL QUESTIONS FOR MATTHEW:
    1. As you read Matthew, pay extra attention to what Jesus says about the Kingdom of Heaven. How does Jesus describe it? What is required to enter this Kingdom?
    2. What are your expectations for how God’s kingdom should show up in our world? Are these expectations challenged by Matthew’s gospel?
    3. Think about the ways Matthew teaches us to look for evidence of God’s kingdom at work. In what ways do you see it at work in your life, your church, and your community?
    4. Read through Matthew 5-7. Which part of this sermon is highlighted for you? How can you put it into practice this week?

According to early church traditions, Saint Matthew wrote the 1st Gospel, Saint Mark wrote the second Gospel based on the accounts of Saint Peter, Saint Luke wrote next, as he was working with Saint Peter and Saint Paul, then at last it was Saint John.
The Gospel of Saint Luke should have been written before AD 64, as his second book, acts seems to not mention the death of Saint Paul. For such a detailed writer such as Luke this seems to be an odd information to be left out. And he mentiones that others have already written about our Lord Jesus.
Thus we can understand that the Gospel of Saint Matthew and Saint Mark were most probably written around AD 40 - AD 60, while the Jews were persecuting the Christians, and there were constant arguments between Christians and the Jews.
The letters of the New Testament were also written during this period.

Yes, for this video we pulled a lot from the writings of the early church fathers. To go along with what you mentioned, we also have videos for the rest of the gospels and for Acts. Here are the links, in case you are interested:
