  • The coastal or sea wolves of British Columbia are a genetically distinct subspecies of grey wolf that inhabit the windswept coast and coastal islands of northwest British Columbia. Deriving as much as 75% of their diet directly from the sea, watch this short doc to learn more about these unique and truly distinct wolves.

    I love that you study wild animals in their natural habitat. Wolves need a lot of habitat and we need wolves.

    • @rickandrewsfilms1667
      @rickandrewsfilms1667  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes indeed, studying them in their natural habitat is the only way to really get to know wildlife, and yes I agree, wolves are an essential part of this ecosystem.

    As a hunter in BC, I do not hunt wolves or black bears, because I feel too much respect for them. However, it should be said that wolves, or black bears are not threatened by any sort of hunting at all, but by logging, development and loss of wild habitat.

    • @mortalclown3812
      @mortalclown3812 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Agreed, yet the reality is that trophy hunts happen quite regularly. Tough to believe these are still a thing, tho ~ especially for wolves.
      Fwiw, I may be vegetarian, but I'm realistic. Imo, moral subsistence hunters get their food more humanely than how the USDA harvests. (I realize most people don't have access to hunted meat, as well.)
      Peace.🐾🙋🌎

      Is your hunting necessary for your survival? Some day, humans might be farther down the food chain.

      So much wildlife is threatened by unrestrained "development". How do we curb them? When they are gone, they are gone forever. At least until human beings are gone forever and can no longer threaten by their lust for profit.

      @mikegrindstaff ปีที่แล้ว

      Ehh...shouldn't we have more respect for the animal that feeds us? I mean I understand what you are saying...but does that mean that you only eat animals you don't respect? I'm not sure that idea plays out...we are all part of the same system...all equal in value...IMO

    When I was younger I worked on a commercial fishing boat and the island we anchored behind had wolves and we got to see them come out to the beaches right before sundown every night. They were fascinating to watch as they scavenged and played. I didn’t realize at the time how special it was to experience it. If anyone comes to the area and wants to see them I would suggest scanning the surf line as the suns going down as it seems like that’s when they like to roam the beach.

    Those are the skinniest wolves I have ever seen on film. Apparently they do not eat much fat in that island environment. They can catch salmon just as easily as bears but just eating the brain is not much food. A bear eats the skin and brain and eggs. I lived in Alaska for many years and the wolves there had a big winter to live through so they look much heavier than those in this film. Yes wolves eat black bear but mostly just the cubs.

    • @rickandrewsfilms1667
      @rickandrewsfilms1667  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the wolves are lean here compared to others that live say in Yellowstone or Alaska. They do hunt and eat seals which may be their biggest source of fat, and like all wolves, they will scavenge what they can.

The sea wolves was interesting. I’m still thinking about it. Did they really swim that far. When I was 40 I got on the God trip and I’m mixing into the equation the greatness of God’s creation and it’s provoking more thought. In one of your scenes I thought I saw a Bar Tailed Godwit. They fly non stop from Alaska to here in New Zealand. It takes about 5 days and it’s about 11,000 kilometres. They amaze me. Then when the season changes they fly all the way back to where they have come from.

      Same here. This short video, however, is much better! In my opinion the Netflix documentary on this subject is terrible! Most annoying narrating, in particular, since they give the animals names like they were people. In conjunction with the artificially construed stories (e.g. the "problem" that sea otters constantly geht seperated from each other due to gray whales 😀) the netflix documentation (which doesn't deserve the name) is simply unbearable.
