well, i don't think they were added into the game but origin of the creeper is that Notch or Jeb was messing with the pig model and got the creeper's form

Notch said it would keep the shape for a new mob
Random fun fact, the pig creepers are a reference to how the first creeper was brought into existence because the pig texture was somehow messed up, accidentally making the creature you saw in the video. I'm guessing seeing the shape brought up the idea to turn it into an actual mob.
Yep! When Notch was coding minecraft (specifically the pig,) he got the Y axis and the Z axis mixed up, resulting in the creeper shape.

By the way, the block you called "the bug block" is actually called "Debug1" you can get it by pushing bubble Coulums in some snapshots. There's also Debug2, which you can't get. But it looks like an old Chiseled sandstone texture.
