    Council tax is vicious. Such an annoying bill and so expensive too. Thanks for being transparent about your spending. I just finished uni too and I've been navigating all these new expenses lately. Interesting to see how other people my age manage their finances 😊

    • @barandigemini
      @barandigemini 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, it is! We rent a studio flat in a shabby part of Harrow (basically 1 big room, as it is open plan), and we pay £160 for council tax on top of the rent... :-(

      @@barandigemini that's crazy and so expensive!!! I pay £130 at the moment and I live alone 💩

      Council tax is really not that bad. I don't understand why people complain about it so much.

    • @libbyt2581
      @libbyt2581 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Andrew depends where you live and how much the cost is in relation to your income? I live alone so it feels like a lot on my entry-level salary, though I imagine I will probably care less when I earn more.

    That's equivalent of a £55k salary before tax. Surprising as a 21-year-old graduate.

    Quite impressive how little you spend a month on groceries! And I once heard that spending around 30% of your income on housing is the best, works well for you too!

    This is London zone 1 so really not transferable to most graduates. Keep this in mind - London outside of zone 1 is super expensive anyway but no one ventures to zone1 unless they have a lot of money

    • @landonlowe4029
      @landonlowe4029 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not british ... what are the zones you mention is it like wealthy areas designated on some sort of map.. or like property can't be priced over certain amounts in certain areas as prescribed by the government .

    • @leahmcdermott4189
      @leahmcdermott4189 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it not? I live in Zone 1 and so do lots of graduates and people. Zone 1 and Zone 2 is a bit more expensive sure but it’s also where everyone wants to be. There’s lots of affordable things to do too. If you’re going to West End or any touristy parts of London, it’s Zone 1 so idk what you mean when you say no one goes there unless they have a lot of money lol. People go Zone 1 all the time 💕

    • @leahmcdermott4189
      @leahmcdermott4189 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@landonlowe4029 It just represents different areas in London, Zone 1 and 2 tend to be the more expensive areas and it gets progressively ‘cheaper’ as it goes to Zone 6. It doesn’t really mean the area or people in it are wealthy in my opinion. As I said, I live in a Zone 1 area and I’m still broke (kinda) and my area is shitty. Everywhere in London is pretty shitty tbh. People still get stabbed to death in my area, it’s still kinda dangerous and wild so I wouldn’t refer to it anywhere as a “wealthy” area just because it’s Zone 1 unless you live in Buckingham Palace 😭💕

    US citizens your age are not near as careful with money, actually… very few people in the United States live within their means or have any savings 😳 I like how your monthly savings is similar to the amount you spend on housing, good ratio. Best wishes, keep up the good work, will pay off later in life, having a “comfortable” lifestyle upon retirement is a true pleasure 😊

    Lovely informative video, I love watching how much other people spend here 🥰 London is such a weird city when it comes to prices, you might manage to cut costs on one end and be stabbed in the back by another bill 🥲 It's especially good when you have someone to share a one-bedroom apartment with, I think it's one of the most convenient situations (living with friends is also obviously great, but if you don't need the second bedroom that really gives you more options!). Sorry for the council tax, that's crazy (I have always lived in the South zone 2-3 and the council tax wasn't that bad thanks god) and I do miss being a student, too :")

    Hi can you talk about getting a mastercard/ credit card? I am a young professional as well in London and now am looking into this to collect points and improve my credit score.

    • @mariek9892
      @mariek9892 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m American, but assuming it works much the same - make sure you shop around for the right card - there are a ton of options and all will claim to have benefits, but my favorite are the ones that give you “points” toward airline miles. Pay your card or at least minimum on time every month or set up automatic payments from another account. Don’t take out too many cards too frequently, because this can also impact your credit score.

    • @andreyav
      @andreyav 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Be very careful with credit cards! Some people got into debt too much.. Learn more about how to save, live frugally, financial education etc Maybe just have one card, the minimal amount got people in trouble, better pay off everything as you go.. some people got addicted to shopping or debt, one even freezes her 'emergency' credit card in freezer! (To avoid impulse buying)
