Waitrose is one of the most expensive grocery stores !!! Marks and Spencer’s also shop in Lidl or Aldi !!! They have really good quality foods for WAYYYY cheaper
@@CapturingSpain yes ASDA, tesco and Sainsburys are more middle tier, M&S and waitrose are upper tier and Lidl and Aldi are lower teir in terms of pricing I'd say
The quality is not comparable there is a big difference unless you are going for things like meat, milk, veggies etc. But pre made foods and breads etc are a lot nicer.
If you shopped at lidl, aldi, asda or pretty much any other shop than waitrose, you'd probably save a lot more on food. Also getting a monthly or weekly oyster could be cheaper
It's great to see her calculate and compare money with her time/work. She may have spent £13 on a takeway because she wanted to spend an hour of cooking on work instead. But that one hour of work is gonna make her more money than £13. You can tell she's a business student.
A different perspective is she just *wanted* a takeaway, she didn't want to wake up 10 minutes earlier 6 days a week which would have given her the time to get her work done and then have an hour to meal prep for a few days. But she didn't because she doesn't need to pinch her pennies. Good for her but we just need to remind ourselves that what we see on YT/social media is not the only way of doing things.
for anyone wanting to move to London you do not need to be living somewhere that costs 1110 pounds a month. you can get lovely places just outside of central for 600-800 pm xxx
I studied in the UK as well, but I chose a smaller city(still a big city) than London shopped in Lidl and spent way less. So if you are on the budget or aren't making as much money, and still want to study abroad you absolutely can!
I like how you included some vlog clips in this video so it’s not just finance and numbers 🤓 it’s interesting to see this type of video from someone living in a different country, cost of living varies so much 😮
I'm moving to London in September from California so this is really insightful. Where I live now is already really expensive so hopefully there wont be too much of a difference... but knowing me the coffee shops will be tempting!
i live in england!! i don’t recommend buying food from waitrose, unless you are wealthy. Lidl and Aldi are much cheaper and generally better for most things ahaha
Could you please do a video about how having a MasterCard work as a student, the points, the benefits, and all? And how it works for your travel expenses
I live in Newcastle and literally only spend £150 for everything including rent and subscriptions! I eat out as almost as much as you do too. I could never afford a big city!
i honestly feel so sorry for people, especially college students who have to be independent and have limited monthly allowances, who live in 1st world countries because almost everything is so expensive. Here in my country you can buy lots of meat, fruits, and vegetables for only 30 pounds and that is already good for 2 weeks if you are living alone. And you can also find a nice and neat rental room for only 60 pounds...
Unreal seeing the cost of living in London, compared to where I am further north. Although I am sure shopping at Waitrose doesn’t help 😅 How does it compare with Oslo, out of interest? Also… do we have to spot Maddie’s word of the week? 🥖
£3.20 for a jar of pesto?!?! please stop shopping at Waitrose, you can get the same product at Aldi for 70p! but aside from that lol as someone who’s hoping to move down to London for uni next year this video was great heheh thanks for sharing :)
Interesting to see the cost of things. But also just wondering, are the guidelines so different over there; if you are experiencing cold like symptoms you are allowed to go about normally (shopping, meeting friends etc) .?
I love these videos and I would LOVE to move to London! For now, I'm staying in Copenhagen and I made a similar video about the cost of living in Copenhagen if you are curious

@@nixy9437 it can’t be 1000£ in the centre, must be double. She is paying 270 per week and her flatmate another 270 per week. So the total price must be around £2000

Honestly if you are fruggle enough, London is a lot cheaper than most city’s. Your main and biggest game changing expense will be accommodation.
