My friends have recently pilled me on the concept of Gate Guardian Eldlich. The pieces becoming spell cards in the backrow become excellent material for the Golden Lord himself and given the fact that you can banish pieces from the graveyard to make the fusions, the synergy is surprisingly there.
Gate Guardians are the epitome of "more than the sum of their parts." Combined comes up enough and it's free enough that you never really regret having it. Double Attack is absolutely worth running, since even if you can't activate it, it's free advantage off of Souls. The amount of empty advantage you can accrue with how many different names you can activate means Droplet goes CRAZY here. The Field Spell isn't once per turn, which opens up some interesting possibilities. Theoretically, you can use a Dragon Ravine and Destrudo engine to cycle for a copy from deck, but the problem is that all the GG pieces are Level 7, so you have to do it on Prisma or Souls. Sacred Sword of Seven Stars feels made for this deck, but with Ash everywhere in Master Duel it is a bit trickier. This is also a good deck for Fusion Deployment. Isolde searching Gate Guardian and pitching it for literally anything was a pretty easy way to resolve Dark Guardian, but uh... oops...
All of that and more! Kashtira is a decent hybrid to apply pressure, 7s for Sacred Sword and the Continuous Spell lets you Normal Summon the pieces. Burial From A Different Dimension means even if you can only get 2 pieces on field, as long as the third is in hand or gy, you can make any of the Level 9s and then Combined in a turn. Upstart Goblin recently came to 3, which both Draws and boosts your opponent's Lp so Riryoku is live. And there's a whole host of bad gimmicky cards as always. Dimension Explosion, Danger Dogman, Fusion Conscription. If you want you could probably build a version of Vaylantz with Gate Guardian, or Ursarctic with Gate Guardian.
What if we did this deck he has here, but used hardleg's favorite heroes from chaos draft: evil hero malicious bane, adusted gold, and good ol stratos to summon off a hero lives? After reducing a bunch of monsters to zero attack, use a hero lives, summon stratos, search gold, pitch gold, dark calling up a bane, bane breaks the board and gets massive
Hey Joe, just want to let you know that I do in fact enjoy this series greatly. I think it has a nice blend of game theory, archetype analysis and entertainment value, while also being very digestible. It's nice to experience analysis with modern yugioh deck construction theory without worrying about hyper optimization. I think you're doing great, keep on keepin on Mr Leg!
This is possibly my favourite series - not just for the usual hardleg reasons, but because, as a newer player, the game goes from 'Here is An Structure Deck' to looking up full decklists and combo guides like immediately. Actually trying to figure out if and when a card is good is just not a muscle you get to train very often, except in hindsight after losing a lot of games, and this is one of the only series I've found that focuses on that process at all
I love the funny Tech Pick of Kashtira Berth...It lets you Normal Summon your Garnets without Tribute, which then sets the board at least halfway to one of the Fusions.
Joe I dig your channel so much. You're such a genuine hard working honest creator. I've been a patron for over a year I think now. Only 1$ a month but you said every dollar helps and I'm not rich lol. But yeah just thank you for doing what you do, keep it up man. Your channel is awesome.
Correct me if im wrong, but the opponents LP count doesnt matter whatsoever when it comes to the OTK right? 8000 cut in half is 4000, add 4000 to your monster and you'll always be dealing at least 4000+ damage. Same with higher numbers.
I'm surprised they didn't make Pendulum Monsters for the Support. I would like to imagine they would be Gates like Para and Dox's doors in the anime. "Labyrinth Gate Para" and "Labyrinth Gate Dox"
They did need better fusion monsters tho, Since there was no actual payoff in para and dox's deck. (Because it was designed to be beaten by two low power decks.)
fwiw the reason the Jirai Gumo trap is like that is because it's a reference to how one of the Paradox brothers had set Jirai Gumo (the monster) as a "trap" in the labyrinth during the tag duel against Yugi and Joey, where it occupied a specific tile/ space on the labyrinth floor and ambushed the monster that stepped on it. The way of springing forwards in a column from the S/T zone to the corresponding monster zone and killing the opponent's monster directly in front of it is how they've chosen to recreate that "monster sets up an ambush in this specific part of the labyrinth, pounces on unwary victim" concept in actual game mechanical. It also more generally resembles the attacks of trap door spiders and the like. Still isn't particularly good, but it's cool that they worked that into the design imo.
I guess on the... Up side? if you summon your guy to one Extra Monster Zone you could line it up with the other one so if they summon a link or something it'd be sure to have something to hit...? But that seems a bit cope, as it were. ... Functions as a Booby Trap E target...?
The Dragun bot is great for going 2nd testing purposes, it runs a bunch of hand traps (ash, imperm), called by and the solemn cards as well as having a dragoon on field most of the time.
3:48 Yeah, this is alluding to the manga where the Wall Shadow was a monster that would attack by surprise in the Labyrinth (as if it jumped out of the walls) so monsters that were too weak had no chance against it on their own. The start of your opponent's Battle phase is apparently considered analogous to a player sending their monster into the Labyrinth, which meant that it could be attacked by the Wall Shadow. Outside the Labyrinth your monsters were safe and you could make other plays (just as in your Main phase) but to progress in the tournament they had to send monsters through the Labyrinth. This synergy of the Wall Shadow with the Labyrinth Wall is akin to the ATK/DEF bonuses the terrain of the battlefield provided for various monsters in other duels of that arc (such as mountainous area boosting Winged Beasts).
I hope Hardleg realizes the Field Spell isn't a OPT while the fusions may seem difficult to set up, they really aren't at all Just setting up Combined and Wind & Water is solid. 3 targeting negates, and 2 negates for potential boardbreakers. Even see some people implement Appolousa for further monster negates. The deck has some very cute synergies that you wouldn't expect I will say that some people run two Suijin and Kazejin. It does run a higher risk of opening them, but it opens up your plays a lot more, and makes it easier to access better lines that you wouldn't be able to access with just one copy. Like if you ran a second copy of Suijin, you would've had access to Riryoku at 37:46, as an example. You dont need more than 1 Sanga tho
30:43 You could also try a go-second non-staple: Fallen of Albaz. The Albaz Dragons - for which you have plenty of space in your Extra deck so far - are almost the peak of Superpoly targets, with their second materials being _very_ generic outside of Sanctifire. Albaz's effect requires a discard cost but the Gate Guardian pieces can be used from the graveyard, so that hurts less than in other decks. Plus, you're already running Fusion Deployment, so he'd just be an additional target for that, available more consistently than other boardbreakers.
Hey hardleg, after watching your video through to the end I wanna say that while I may have 0 interest in playing a lot of the decks in this series I do enjoy watching it and not just as background noise. Even if the views ain't that great I do like being able to see the process by which one would go. As someone who has been playing on and off for years since the early 2000s I mostly just net deck and part of that is because I don't understand modern deck building theory but your videos have given me an idea of how to go about it and I appreciate it for that. It's also nice to see the run down on decks that I wouldn't play but may deal with at some point in YgoOmega
I don't play MD, so I'm not sure if the banlist restricts this, but the best GG deck that I tested was a Branded Bystial variant. GG is a very defensive deck, which means its best paired with an aggressive deck. The main combo focused around Keeper of Dragconic Magic who could search any fusion spell alongside revive fusion materials from the GY. This means that it could revive any piece from the GY and search Fusion Deployment for any of the two-piece Guardians. However, you can go even deeper. By searching Instant Fusion you can go into a Predaplant lime that gives you Buffo and a Dragostopelia, ontop of another fusion search which could be Fusion Deployment or Branded Fusion. Branded Fusion can send Sanga for Albion use the Predap fusion for Mirrorjade. Bystial and Cartesia cards make for a solid engine. Cartesia can make Granguinol who can send Sanga, Gran can bounce into Luluwelith. Magnamhut can grab Keeper. Lubellion can grab the continuous spell or trap for draw power or destruction.
Several months late, but Diabellstar + Silvera add another layer of interaction to the deck + 48 cards lets you drop Maxx C and add more ways to special the pieces out to go first and end on multiple Djinns.
The "Danger!" archetype is actually has relatively good synergy towards summoning the Gate Guardian fusions, if you discard any of the pieces or spell/traps it just sets up to summon the fusions, and you can just add a few link monsters like Apollousa Bow of the Goddess that cover the deck's weaknesses.
So reason why Riryoku is now a Guardian card is because Para and Dox used the spell during their duel against Yugi and Joey, they might have also used it against Jaden and Syrus
I know I'm 6 months late, but a little advice: if you're playing a blind second Riryoku variant of the deck like Joe is, you should heavily consider a Kaiju engine. You get 3 extra board wipes with Slumber, while Gameciel and Kumoungus both have under the 2400 attack threshold to be OTK'ed by the Wind&Thunder. Going over 40 cards isn't a big deal in this deck because you don't want to draw the pieces anyway. If you're balanced with board breakers, piece searchers, and life point cards (like Upstart and chicken game), anywhere from 46 to 60 is viable.
16:22 I suppose they felt the need to put at least _some_ restriction on a 2400 Normal summon (that has a positive effect to boot). Sure, we're kind of past the age where beaters like that matter but it would also be kind of insane to escalate the powercreep in this regard like that. Edit: Besides, in simplified gamestates a 2400 Normal summon with no downside might actually decide it.
Really late, but the fact that the Labyrinth places the pieces as spells is also thematic, as Para and Dox summoned them as "gift boxes" in their first duel with Yugi and Joey, NOT as monsters.
Neat vid, inspired me to make a Gate Guardian Punk deck to play against one of my more casual friends in Master Duel, since I got a Combined while looking for Quem.
If someone is interested in other builds: Prerequisites: Armageddon Knight + Field Spell + Level 4 Monster in hand: - Normal Summon Armageddon Knight, send Zephyros, - Activate Field Spell, get Kazejin - Activate Zephyros, bounce Field Spell - Activate Field Spell, get Suijin - Link Summon Cross-Sheep (with Armageddon knight + Zephyros) - Summon Wind&Water, Cross-sheep triggers, Summon back Armageddon Knight - Armageddon Knight send Destrudo - Summon back Destrudoby paying half you LP, targeting Armageddon Knight - Summon Ancient Faerie Dragon - Activate Ancient Faerie Dragon Effect: Destroy Field Spell, get Secret Village of the Spellcasters, - Activate Secret Village (Wind&Water floats into Kazejin, a second Spellcaster) - Activate Ancient Faerie Dragons second effect - Summon a level 4 Monster - make Apollousa = Profit! (3x Monster Negate, 2x S/T Negate, Lock on Spells, even after Kaiju) =/= Downside: loses to 1 Negate on Armageddon Knight Branded - Gate Guardian: - Keeper of Dragon Magic lets you discard an OG Guardian to search Branded Fusion and Summon the piece back - Branded Fusion can send the missing Sanga (by making Albion) - Branded Fusion can send Zephyros (or even Dark Guardian), by making Lubellion - Mirrorjade + Wind&Water (2x S/T-Negate) is a decent endboard going first - Mirrorjade + Thunder&Wind + Dark Guardian with protection is a better Endboard going first Going Second with this deck is hard to OTK since it folds to multiple Negates, Going first and setting up TCBOO/Summon Limit/Secret Village seems to be more lucrative
I have tried Scareclaw-Guardian, Branded-Guardian and Floodgate-Guardian. The latter showed more resillience towards interruption. If you run floodgates in the main and the entire Branded-going-second line in the sideboard you can get away with good mindgames (since they won't let you go first in game two)
8:42 How would Kashtira bruteforce their way through this defence? Fenrir, Arise-Heart, and Wraithsoth is exactly three pieces of targeting removal. A _full_ Kashtira board might have the resources to make No. 11: Big Eye in addition to that but how consistently do they get there (especially after a turn where the Gate Guardian deck ended on this big dude)?
If you do run Ash and/or Veiler, you can make Fleur pretty easily too. And also since the pieces are Lv.7s, the Luster Soldier is an easy thing to fall back on.
I will say I do very much enjoy this series and I appericate all your insight into helping people in their deck building journeys! I will say though for constructive criticism this has definitely been the legs build I enjoyed the "least" mostly cause I feel there was just a little bit too much "this deck is bad" for me to really enjoy it thoroughly haha I understand it is your opinion and respect it, but from an entertainment perspective it was definitely disheartening a bit. Possibly a few more points on how the deck can be help or more of the decks positives (few as they may be) might have helped (though please consider this iw coming from a source who thinks yugioh powerscaling is too high atm so this could entirely be me wanting something that the game cant deliver in its current state haha) That being said I encourage to continue doing what you are doing sir I look forward to your next deck building , book review and any other content you put out!
I think part of it was the desire, since it's a series, at least in part, for new players, to make sure they understand that this isn't a good deck to start with. It's the sort of thing to build as a hobby if it amuses you later, but as your first deck you're likely going to end up disappointed and getting blown up repeatedly is the sort of thing that sometimes makes people quit the game. Like, you can possibly make it an okay deck, but saying it's not going to compete at the top tiers, at this point, is just trying to set realistic expectations so far as I can tell.
@@thaddeusgenhelm8979 I can appericate that and that logic is completely fair! Again i was just hoping to offer constructive opinions! I hope it didnt come as me complaining too much in which case i do apologize
This really does emphasise how unfair Konami are when it comes to supporting archetypes. The amount of unnecessary restriction on a deck that, even without it, wouldn’t be that great, when compared to a deck like Tear, Kash, or even several other weaker rogue decks that had next to no restrictions outside of “only activate once per turn” is ridiculous
Yo for my master duel players, put a kashtira package on this, fenrir unicorn rise heart and xyz, you got defense and disruption while setting up, if the opponent outs kashtiras you already got setup for gate guardians or if you setup gate gurdians and Kash, its pretty huge
25:25 Yeah, if a card says its name is "always treated as (insert name here)" then that makes it its original name. Like Harpie Lady #1, Harpie Lady #2, Harpie Lady #3, and Cyber Harpie Lady, always being treated as "Harpie Lady". You can't run 3 of each in the same deck because they all count as the same name durong deckbuilding. Similarly I don't believe you could have more of 3 total copies of Gate Guardian and Dark Guardian. But you don't ever want to run the original "Gate Guardian" anyway.
Gotta love how konami is like "cant let some niche archetype card that is a search and a pop attack the same turn it was summoned" but then just makes kashtira fenrir, which is a search, a better pop, doesnt take up your normal summon to get it on the field, is splashable in basically every deck and can also attack the turn it was summoned. Its like they dont even try to make archetypes balanced
If u have a hero live and Riryoku Guardian use A hero live to get that hero card to copy names. Makes combos then use Riryoku Guardia to drop ur opponent hp down to 4000.
The field destruction effect combine with the fusion that can make the attack of one monster 0 . I just wish the field do something more i don't know, make a labrinth token with 3000 def maybe?
My ratio for the GG spell/traps 2 quick play, 1 the otk, 1 trap spider. They make good Souls folder, but they are also useful to search. The trap is the most cutable. I would replace it with a third quick play destruction.
Has anyone actually turned this deck into an engine for another deck yet? Been trying it with Dokmatika and even that deck seems to struggle to make use of all these garnets. It's really interesting in theory, but man does it suck that the 2 mat fusions are harder to summon than the 3 mat
It's really sad konami didn't make this support better so that the deck can at least be rogue. Anyway, please try to build melffy sometime, I really think you will enjoy the deck. :)
These guys aren't great but oh my god they are so much fun to play and just have some goofy times, look at the water and wind fusion he's just a little guy
the worst part of this, is that they decided that they shouldn't accidentdally give this archetype Labrynth support. It probably wouldnt mesh, but it would have been funny
Wait i just realized, it would have been better and alot cooler if the Gate Gaurdians were Labrynth support/co-archatype since they both come from the same origins Itll also make sense since theyll be gate gaurding using all kinds of traps as support from lab Damn what a missed opportunity!
Yay for not having to take actual sponsors!
Sponsors aren't bad, if you need the money Joe, feel free to get some. There's nothing wrong with it.
My friends have recently pilled me on the concept of Gate Guardian Eldlich. The pieces becoming spell cards in the backrow become excellent material for the Golden Lord himself and given the fact that you can banish pieces from the graveyard to make the fusions, the synergy is surprisingly there.

A _full_ Kashtira board might have the resources to make No. 11: Big Eye in addition to that but how consistently do they get there (especially after a turn where the Gate Guardian deck ended on this big dude)?
I love putting in a small Dinomorphia engine into these boys. Gate Guardian is my favourite deck.
If you do run Ash and/or Veiler, you can make Fleur pretty easily too. And also since the pieces are Lv.7s, the Luster Soldier is an easy thing to fall back on.
1:04 Dear Editor, you're welcome.
Possibly a few more points on how the deck can be help or more of the decks positives (few as they may be) might have helped (though please consider this iw coming from a source who thinks yugioh powerscaling is too high atm so this could entirely be me wanting something that the game cant deliver in its current state haha)
That being said I encourage to continue doing what you are doing sir
I look forward to your next deck building , book review and any other content you put out!
I'm getting a stun deck vibe from this set. Like you are supposed to sit back and whittle away your opponent rather than combo off and otk.
You can use Gate Guardian Thunder and Water to make the Field Spell destroying monsters easier, since it can reduce monster ATK to 0.
That thumbnail radiates an imposing aura.
Gaslight, girlboss, gate guardian
Finally, Hardleg is probably gonna climb ladder by combining gates
There is a spell card that lets you send a continuous spell card to the graveyard to draw two cards... that might help
I love how konami basically made playing this deck feel exactly like the paradox brothers tag duel.
So the latter climb for after whatever that ritual deck is called that I can’t spell) is GG, good to know
That is a 10/10 thumbnail!
Thanks :D
I realy wanted to see hard leg's reaction to the wombo combo version of gate guardian that lvk's discord cooked up but o well
We will go Gate Guardian Mode another day
The wind an water one will make the field spell able to target any monster you want
Its like they dont even try to make archetypes balanced
my favorite gate guardian combo gotta be the one where my opponent full monster combos me and then kills me
I love the Gate Guardian deck.
It may not be strong, but it's fun as heck.
Still can't believe after all these years they finally made gate guardian actually playable
I was very curious after seeing Gate Guardian in the title. Surprised they got support after so many years.
Oof, they didn't get much did they.
If u have a hero live and Riryoku Guardian use A hero live to get that hero card to copy names. Makes combos then use Riryoku Guardia to drop ur opponent hp down to 4000.
And play 2 of the Sanga, Kazejin and sujin because u are able to makes play better and put up a good trun 1 bored
Sponsored by Rad Shaddol Legends should be a continuing bit moving forward. It's just Shekinaga with a smartphone
The field destruction effect combine with the fusion that can make the attack of one monster 0 . I just wish the field do something more i don't know, make a labrinth token with 3000 def maybe?
it stops inperm the plus side is that prey of the jirai gumo is non targeting destruction
I play this deck with dpe and super poly. Works really well at locals.
Triple upstart is also a way to get opps life point higher. (For tcg)
Is also at three in MD.
@@Ragnarok540 forgot about that lol.
My ratio for the GG spell/traps
2 quick play, 1 the otk, 1 trap spider. They make good Souls folder, but they are also useful to search. The trap is the most cutable. I would replace it with a third quick play destruction.
Honestly, one of my favorite archetypes and I want it to work so badly
obviously it needs battle protection for when your opponent summons Blue-Eyes Chaos MAX Dragon
WE'RE GOING GATE GUARDIAN MODE!!!!
it's funny I've been playing gate guardian in the tcg for awhile now then it came to master duel so I built it their then boom you doing it
Let‘s! Wait! Until the newest support arrives in MD and the archetype is a lot more playable.
Has anyone actually turned this deck into an engine for another deck yet? Been trying it with Dokmatika and even that deck seems to struggle to make use of all these garnets. It's really interesting in theory, but man does it suck that the 2 mat fusions are harder to summon than the 3 mat
I hope u play GG when Dark Guardian comes out in MD
with the current banlist coming up triple upstart makes the Riryoku easierr to use
Do we know when the new support is coming to MD?
hard leg joe always dressed nicely
I actually miss the deck doctor series too
It's really sad konami didn't make this support better so that the deck can at least be rogue. Anyway, please try to build melffy sometime, I really think you will enjoy the deck. :)
Rewatch the part where he says how decks are decided.
If you can get Dark and Combined on the field at once, you can hard make ZEUS lol
I have all the cards becouse I opened a lot of packs for manadium but I haven't tried it yet
These guys aren't great but oh my god they are so much fun to play and just have some goofy times, look at the water and wind fusion he's just a little guy
Dark guardian is the win condition with guardian ryrioku
Why Not upstart goblin?
Giving Jenemy life points aint Bad for the spell!?
the worst part of this, is that they decided that they shouldn't accidentdally give this archetype Labrynth support. It probably wouldnt mesh, but it would have been funny
Can you use defusion on it before it leaves the field then get all 3 gate guardians for an attack lol
Do I get a prize for getting the field spell question right Mr Leg?
More like:
Gatekeep Guardian
Love these videos 👍
I like these vids!
Oof This must be complicated
ive got some funny mix ideas for this, but maaan i dont think theyll work...
I like da series
So basically the deck is just a big FU to sprights
Paradox joe
man this deck is so bad, still fun though. I still hope we get a retrain for the main deck monsters, too bad only two of the fusions are good.
Wait i just realized, it would have been better and alot cooler if the Gate Gaurdians were Labrynth support/co-archatype since they both come from the same origins
Itll also make sense since theyll be gate gaurding using all kinds of traps as support from lab
Damn what a missed opportunity!
Preview for the next Ladder Climb???
This deck is really messy in its current state in MD. And worst of all most non-archetype cards are UR's.
Am i dumb for liking this?
moar
