And it crashes extremely well as well, our clown is still hobbling around with a sore paw and ribs feeling sorry for himself, but the Norden is still out there having fun. A few extra scratches on that fantastic bash plate come crash bar, same on the soft luggage and a few minutes straightening our mirrors and levers and the 901 was ready to ride - our idiot was enjoying it so much he refused the requisite medical treatment just to keep riding the Expedition
Thank You for the kind words, it is always encouraging to get positive feedback. Our crash test dummy is desperately trying to organise himself a long termer from Husqvarna SA, crushed foot and all. You are absolutely going to love your 901 Expedition. Please send us a couple of 60-second vids of where you go "EXPEDITIONing" on your bike. We love to see where you all ride.... thinking about popping up weekly videos of where everybody rides in the world, be it dirt or tar... send those vids and give us a bit of context. REMEMBER: Ride more, stress less YOU NEED A BIKE IN YOUR LIFE!
I also picked up one 901 Exped exactly 7 days ago. Traded my standard 901 in. Lost a lot of money by that. I already ordered a lot of upgrades for the 2022 model. Like handguards from Touratech, large H&B crashprotection, Bluetooth connection , tankbag , H&B pannerrack and some more stuff. But it also needed a decent engineguard but what was most important a much better suspension. I allready contacted Hyperpro for a better shock. This would cost me another 1400.00 Euro. And by that i would not even had the best option. To be honest i feel a bit betrayed by Husqvarna / KTM. Coming out so soon with a bike where all the flaws of the standard 901 were adressed. As soon as i heard that it constantly stayed nagging me. And also a lot of other people i could read in certain forums. What Husqvarna / KTM did was a horrible thing to do. Most of us have to work hard in a shitty job to be able to own a motorcycle. And after a week owning the 901 i was not happy with it. It had serious flaws for me. Like the shock. Paying such a large amount of money and been getting that in return for it was not ok from my viewpoint. Ktm did hurt a lot of 901 buyers with that. And people can say " O, KTM did listen and adressed all these flaws." But what had a 901 owner to that ? Absolutely nothing. This did not make the pain what we felt ok. I really did read a lot of posts from 901 owners who were really mad about that. But what could we do about that. Nothing at all. And as soon as you read this i am sure that you completely understand what i am saying. And i am sure that you think i am right. And also coming from a 1190R i coukd not get adjusted at the low height of the 901. Also the angle of my legs were not ok. But that was something that is my own doing. The rest is the fault by KTM. The only thing i could do was asking the dealer for a price. And i knew that it would cost me money. But keeping in the back of my mind that the replacement shock also would cost me 1400.00 Euro. And i had also to order a engineguard. After hearing the amount of money i would loose i still decided to do the trade. And being happy that i made that trade. In a few months i am heading of to Armenia. I will go there riding for over 6 weeks. And i was very worried about doing that with the standard 901. I have some ax41 tires laying around. With that i know the Exped will be really up to that job. And still when i use the calculator the price difference and the money a did loose by it is not even that much anymore. Although the basic still is that the shock that needed replacement was a horrible shock. An even dangerous shock. Cause after botteming out you could be launched of your bike. It felt like KTM did go the CRF300 way. With a very shitty standard shock. So in a way i can not calculate the money for the shock away against what i have lost. Bit still overall i am pleased that Husq came out with the Exped. But it is a contradiction morally speaking. Husqvarna really should compensate the people who upgraded to the Exped version. In money or in accessoires. So Husqvarna. If you read this then after this as soon as possible contact every dealer of yours and ask them about the people who upgraded from the standard to the Expedition version. And work something out. This also would be better then the best advertisement as you could possibly get. Every motormag would write about that in a very positive way. Greetings from the Netherlands ,
@Kees Verhagen Hi Kees, Thank you for your comment. Yes, one can understand your frustration, but it is unfortunately a part of any industry. We have purchased phones, cameras, and several other items over the years, believing it to be the latest and greatest with the best features for our desired purposes only to find out that it had shortcomings and was not 100% exactly in accordance with our needs. Then, only to find out that if we had waited a little, a new improved version, more fit for our purposes would become available. Sometimes, it was our own impatience, and other times, it was due to a brilliant sales pitch. In the case of the standard Norden 901 versus the Expedition, (both available in dealerships presently), the standard 901 is more of a soft roader, gravel road tourer and needs to be understood and accepted as such. Whereas the Expedition is designed for the more extreme off-road "Overlander." Similar to a luxury SUV mainly being designed for good country roads and gravel highways as opposed to mud bogging, rock crawling, sand surfing or overlanding where a more rugged, proper 4x4 off-road vehicle is the more appropriate choice.
Even though I came quite severely unstuck and my foot is every color of the rainbow, I am completely smitten with the Expedition and quite jealous of you having your very own one. We unfortunately have to give them back after a few hours or days. Enjoy your bike mate, send us a couple of 60 second clips of where you ride it... just to make us that much more envious - we would love to see where you all ride.
Picking mine up in two weeks. When test riding the 901 it took me very little time to get a feel for the bike without all the gizzmo's switched on. I'm sold on it and with respect to all other adventure bikes out there ... this should be the bike of the year unless, of course, those electronics ... I have never been and still am not a fan of electronics on cars or bikes but bar the T700 there's not much left out there, especially when you're a tall rider. Let's see how modern technology holds up and so far it looks as if they kept things fairly restrained. Enduro/adventure training weekends on this bike are booked,
@Theo Wels The electronics on this bike will surprise you. They are extremely good, and the input from them is very subtle, almost imperceptible and natural. However, as our crash test dummy did, you become over confident in your own abilities and, for lack of a better word - "lazy" - that when you do go full analogue on the bike you need to have your wits about you and take a bit of time to refamiliarise yourself in "au natural" mode before attempting any hooliganism. However, as a taller person, the Expedition is surprisingly comfortable with great ergonomics, although a set of twin wall Renthal RC Highs might make it just that little bit better. Enjoy your new ride, may there be many, many happy miles of adventuring and expeditioning aboard your 901... and please send us some videos of where you go riding. We lust after such videos. Thank you for watching and for your feedback.
They seemed to do the job on this occasion, took a couple of minutes to straighten them and the mirrors out, but no broken levers this time. They do seem to be quite a sturdy construction.
@@ridefast-dirtntrail-magazines it has been pre-sold out for months in the USA. Waiting lists are around 20 people now in my area. Clearly the demand is there.
@Marco Chavane Although it must be frustrating for the Importer/distributors and buyers in the USA, it is good to hear that the demand is so high in the US as that is the largest market in the world, hopefully that means they will step up production.
@@ridefast-dirtntrail-magazines One can only hope. Good problem for Husky to have though. The dealership in Dallas, Tx is marking them up $2,000 when they do get them, so I will probably buy a used one if it pops up. I have come across a few standard models for around $12-$13k. I cant in good conscious pay $20k when there are bikes like the KTM 1290 Adventure R at close to the same price.
Absolutely an amazing bit of kit is this 901 Expedition and it is a stunner to look at as well.
