I've always admired her resilience through what was somewhat of a nightmare of a early life and young adulthood. If anyone has read her heartbreaking autobiography, they will understand my comment. How she's maintained her mental and physical health is astonishing. Good vibes going out to her...
I never cared for the show, and hardly ever watched it. Many years ago, Miss Franklin was appearing in a local theater in the city I worked in. I was head waiter at a high end restaurant, and met a lot of celebrities who were in town. One very snowy night, we were very slow, so I decided it was time to clock out. I called a few friends to see if they’d meet me at another restaurant a block away. I walked in the other restaurant and it was very slow as well. My friends soon arrived, and as we sat at the bar gossiping with the bar tender, we asked if Bonnie Franklin had come in yet. Nobody had seen her. We started discussing how all of us weren’t big fans, and I brought up that Miss Franklin never walked into a scene on the show, she always seemed to be running. The others agreed and we were laughing quite a bit having fun. We suddenly heard the door open, we all turned to see who was coming in so late on such a cold snowy night. It was Bonnie Franklin. We all started laughing because we’d just talked about her the last 20 minutes. The hostess then seated her directly behind us at a table. We started laughing more because the whole thing was so silly. We couldn’t keep it together, so we called it a night, paid, and left. A few nights later, I was in the same restaurant, talking to the bar tender from the other evening. Bonnie walked in again, was seated by herself for dinner, and placed an order with her waiter. When he approached the service bar, I thought I felt bad about the other night and asked him what Miss Franklin was drinking. A glass of wine, so I said, I’ll buy Miss Franklin her her first drink. He took her wine to her, I saw him come back to me. “She wants to meet you and thank you”. I thought “oh shit”. I told him, that’s o.k., I just wanted to make amends for he other evening. He went back to her table. He came back once again. “She wants to meet you, and I pointed you out to her”. Oh good grief. I sheepishly followed him to her table. I introduced myself to her, she shook my hand and asked if I’d like to sit with her. I recounted the other evening, apologizing for our behavior and was sorry if we disturbed her. She didn’t recall us being too rude, and asked what I’d recommend from the menu. She in turn asked the waiter to bring me what I was drinking. She was so charming, friendly, saying she was enjoying our little town and it’s theater. She was funny, making me feel at ease, I thought after 20 minutes I should call it a night and thanked her for her kindness. I’ve met so many celebrities, but I can honestly say, she was the nicest.
Bonnie Gail Franklin is the reason why I love 1970's Sitcoms especially One Day At A Time and it brings me back so many memories of the show itself and I was thinking about her all the time and I never stopped at all and I think Pat Harrington jr. passed away right after her and both of them are deceased and not forgotten at all because I really miss them very much
I had a crush on Valerie Bertinelli when the show first aired ( still do love her) and was thrilled the day I received an autographed photo from her and writing her an requesting one!
The show later had Michael Lembeck as Max, Julie's boyfriend/husband, and later Boyd Gaines as Mark, Barbara's boyfriend/husband, and Howard Hesseman as Sam, Mark's father who became Ann's boyfriend/husband.
One of my favorite Tv series Bonnie Franklin was absolutely amazing such a brilliant actor Mackenzie & Valorie & Schindler were also brilliant! Always enjoyed watching this show! God bless you Bonnie & Pat you both are a super star in my eyes! ♥️🌹♥️🌹♥️🌹
How sad to hear that Bonnie has passed away. I too grew up on this, watching faithfully every wk. Didn't always understand the subject matter, but that made mo difference to to me, I loved it and loved the whole cast. One of the top 5 shows of the 70s. Wow, how time really does fly. RIH BONNIE FRANKLIN 💛
omg, sad... she was still young. I remember watching this as a ten to like thirteen year old. back then there were only three channels so the hit shows like this, most the country all watched.
I am a child of the 70s and grew up with my TV families. I adored ODAAT - they were so real and loving and I adored how strong Bonnie Franklin was - a feminist and they spoke what was going on. It’s just heartbreaking watching my childhood ‘family members’ pass away. 69 is young. I spent my holidays with these families. I remember one Christmas episode when mom and daughters spent Christmas Eve at Schneider’s lodge cabin … I imagined I was there too. ☮️
It's wonderful to see the cast again, I have always loved this show. So happy it's still being shown on MeTv. Rest In Peace Bonnie Franklin, you are greatly missed.
Wow reading the comments I've just learned of Bunnies passing. I was born in 1970 and watched everytime it was on also C.H.I.P..S was a fun one. Ahh the 70's great time to grow up in just wish I could do it again ✌
This was my favorite show growing up. And my parents let me watch it, despite the controversial nature of the issues they took on, it was so well done, so respectful. Come to think of it, they let us watch all Normal Lear shows.
I always did love this show. At the time when I watched it. I had no idea that Mckenzie Phillips had problems like that. But I have heard about a few years back. I did not know until just now, that her dad played the mama's and papas. They were great too. Thanks for sharing .

I loved Mckenzie Phillips and Valerie bertinelli and I was very fortunate to get a beautiful autograph picture from both of this beautiful stars 🌟🤩 . Always enjoyed Bonnie Franklin in her role as Ann Romano! She and the whole cast went together so well! Fabulous show! Wish we knew more about her life off screen. To play Annie, she must have had some character trait in common! RIP🕊♥️🕊 Bonnie, and May God be with your family during this time and always.🙏♥️🙏♥️🙏♥️🙏♥️
Joe Campanella was actually very good as Anne's ex hubby Ed. He was portrayed as kinda a jerk but not a real SOB -- he still loved his daughters. He and Anne still had feelings but couldn't live together. I'm sure the writers were very tempted to make Ed a complete bastard but it was better to make him an old school guy who was tough to get along with.
They all look so good.. I swear Mackenzie Phillips looks better here than she ever did on the show.. despite her problems. She’s really come along way. Good for her. RIP to Pat and Bonnie 💕

Why are they all so self congratulatory about putting things on TV that have never been there before?? Does that automatically make TV better? If so, then stick a camera in a toilet bowl and film the actors there.
I miss these days and shows like it. Glad MacKenzie Phillips is still thriving and well. She is a true survivor. 💜⭐💜⭐💜⭐💜

Awesome story. I also heard whenever a guest star appeared on the show she made them feel welcome big time!!!
Omg what a long boring story. 😴

She in 2014. Him in 2017. Three years is not right after. Plus, he was 15 years older, so he was fairly old, 87. She wasn't at 69. Cancer is a bitch.
Classic TV like this will never be replaced.
Totally loved that show. They all fit together so perfectly. Pat Harrington was hilarious.
Yeah
Pat Harrington stole the show
I always thought that he was annoying. Cute but annoying

My condolences to her family, the cast and crew. She will be terribly missed.
Mckenzie Philips looks better now years later than she did at a young woman. She looks amazing.
That was because she was on drugs. The very early shows she was very pretty then she became so pale.
I saw Bonnie Franklin and Valerie Bertinellie on Hot In Cleveland and their reunion was so funny

McKenzie and Valerie weren't "fake friends," and who are you to think you know how they felt about each other?
