Great video. Remember the original and the fairlight cmi and the ppg system back in the 80’s. Cost a fortune back then .
Howard Shore used the Synclavier in his early scores for David Cronenberg (Videodrome).
Another famous user not mentioned was Mike Thorne, who produced Wire (synth was featured in Chairs Missing and 154), Soft Cell (and yes “Tainted Love” especially) and ‘Til Tuesday (“Voices Carry”)

I had an SK-1 back in 1987 (couldn't afford a $2K Ensoniq Mirage back then), used it to play songs with samples of my dog barking, kept it for about a year then got rid of it, and that's as far as I needed to go with sampling, lol ! I gladly never looked back at samplers ever since. Long live analog.

I don't want to be too negative, but it does sound really thin compared to the original Synclavier. I'm not sure why though, maybe the crappy 80s DACs gave it some welly. That Beat it sound is a good example of this.
Well you could splash for the Regen for top quality audio components. Only about £2.5k 😂😀 you’re probably right. Modelling converters and amplifiers accurately takes A LOT of processing power and specialised coding. I think this gives a great flavour of the original and you can use it to hone your skills before buying a used original to use as a sideboard 😀.
i stayed with the Arturia version as it had the sampling capability and more powerful
I agree love the Arturia soft Synths &,Roland Cloud Synths as well

How can you prevent the app from cutting out outside sources whenever I try to listen to a backing track or a drum machine it either cuts off the Synclavier or cuts off the other sources unlike the Odyssey or Minimoog
I don’t think we will ever see a hardware synth the scope of the Synclavier. I guess the closest thing would be probably the Kronos or Forte.

@@seeyouintheeighties I'd have thought they'd use a preset, or at least use one as a starting point. Although I sort of understand the basics there's no way I could predict whats going to happen when adjusting parameters - behind every tweak theres a surprise!

How do you increase the bit rate of a timbre to 24 bit?
Choose Bit Depth parameter in the Volume, FM & Intonation setting and adjust it to the maximum value.

Crazy times where you can get a (formerly) 100k synth for the price of a few beers... The interface is just horrible though. Why not have a slider pop up beneath your finger when you push one of the buttons for example? And why not have the buttons display the corresponding values (whenever that is possible of course). These silly red blobs are just taking up space now. And yes, its true to the original, but the use of some color other than red could have been meaningful -- provide cues as to what is what, or in which value-range your dabbling, or whatever. Could think of a 100 ways to improve this interface -- its not *that* hard to get it at least _somewhat_ right. Wonder if they had an interface designer, or just asked Cheryl from the canteen to come up with an idea. Really...
