  • In this video, I'm truck camping and fly fishing for wild brown trout in the Wisconsin driftless region. I'll show you the patterns that I've had the most success with during the spring caddis season! I'll spend the week exploring a dozen or more of the areas famous spring creeks searching for some of the prettiest wild browns you've ever seen! This is part 2 of a 3 part series.

I can’t thank you enough for not putting a music soundtrack over your vids. All the sounds I want to hear while I fly fish are here. Carry on…

Yes! God I hate those videos with corny banjo music blaring away. Drew does a great job with his videos.

This is special; thank you... love the driftless area for the rails-to-trails bike trips. I grew up canoe/kayak fishing Musky & small mouth.

I think it’s cool that the fish you caught on the section of the streams where the bed was lighter the fish were a lighter silver but the fish where the river bed was darker the fish were more brown and colorful

Thanks for the videos on the Wisconsin Driftless. I moved her a few years back and it is truly the Montana of the Midwest. Valuable tips to be had in these videos too.

Drew, in addition to stealth, small stream fishing requires creativity and adaptability. In this video, you certainly demonstrated all the tools required for success in our driftless area streams. It's nice to see you enjoying the driftless area of Wisconsin. It is truly a gem!

So great to see my home waters on your channel Drew! Glad you got into the fish. The Caddis and Mayfly hatches have been sporadic here the last couple months due to unseasonable weather. But now we've gotten some rain and things seem to be back on track. Love your nymphing technique on that foamy recirculating pool. Full waders are really overkill for these small spring creeks. I use a inexpensive heavy duty pair of stocking foot hip waders. Not fashionable, but they do a good job of protecting my legs from thorn brush, nettles and barb wire fencing. I roll em down when it gets too warm, or during the walk back to the car. Great video. Thanks!

That's great to hear. I'm thinking about investing in some water proof pants or something...I think simms makes something light weight that wouldn't be too restricted on movement.

Great video! You have encouraged me to plan an excursion to the Driftless Region. Also thank you for showing that even LooknFishy gets hung up in the stream side veg - I thought all along it was just me and my poor technique! Well done. 👍🏻

That was a reaction at 4'40", Drew. I always use my #3 rod when fishing such tiny streams (sometimes even my#2 rod). Nice video. Again. Nice flies too. End of next week I go on my first 2023 flyfishing trip to Austria. Explore some new waters. A month later I go back again with my boys. Like you I used to go flyfishing on my own for many, many years now. But when my boys discovered the beaurty of this art I find it more difficult to go out on my own. You might understand this.

Thát was a quick reaction at 4'40", Drew. Compliments. I always use my #3 rod when fisfing those tiny streams (sometimes even my #2 rod). You know why ;-) But a wonderful video to watch. Again. Nice flies too. And I see somewhat of rural America. Nice. End of next week I go on my first 2023 flyfishing trip to Austria, alone. Explore some new waters. Excited about it. Will let you know. End of July I go back again with my boys. I have 1 question to you: I used to go out on flyffishing trips abroad just by myself. For many, many years. However. since my both boys have discovered the beauty of flyfishing I have more trouble to go out on my own. Recognizable?

Nice trip drew!!! I bought a pair of dryft wadders this year after being a lifelong simms customer and I have to say I’m super impressed!!! NO sweat!! Don’t even feel like I have them on!!!! I wanted to try out those squalas but can’t afford two pairs!!
Hey what length is your truck bed?
    Thanks

Just curious, why walk so far up the stream? It seems from the footage that there’s some interesting water right at the the beginning of the video.

The water closest to the access gets the most pressure and avoid others walking in and fishing in front of me.

Hey so i'm exploring the driftless myself, I live in Northern IL so im fairly close. How often do you explore the class 2 streams or do you tend to just stick to the class 1 streams?

Man, I need to go to a clinic or something to get some casting help!
I'm kind of "self taught" and I think I got some bad habits or techniques! I *frequently* end up with a ball of line right at the end of the rod instead of that nice lay out! UGH so frustrating
