  • Howdy Buckaroos!
    In this VLOG we install the Cardo Freecom 4X onto my new(ish) AGV K6 helmet. It is long and I apologize for that, but there are many steps along the way to installation. We do get it installed and it is now working fine on this great helmet.
    One note to make is that following this video I have discovered that the Cardo sticky pad as supplied with the Freecom does not seem to be adhering well to the K6. So, I am grappling with whether I glue it in place or not?
    But, after a couple of rides the verdict on the Cardo unit itself and the helmet are excellent from my point of view......
    Hopefully our next VLOG will be on the bike!

    Hi Garey, before buying the Cardo Freecom 4x I watched your video and today I decided to buy it. I recently bought my first bike as well so I'm very excited. Your video helped me greatly, your way of talking, your humor and calmness are a bliss. I grew up without functional parents so watching your video made me wish I had a father like you. Sorry if that's too personal, thanks a lot again. If you have instagram I would love to follow you, all the best!

      That is one of the nicest notes I've ever received! I am honored.
      A little note here; I never knew my real father. So I am indeed somewhat familiar with what you are saying here.....
      But, remember WE are responsible for our own lives, and only WE can make a difference going forward...and it sounds to me as if YOU are!
      My advice is to look around for life mentors that you admire. I was extremely lucky to have one right next door to where we lived. A nice man, gentle giant.
      I am on Instagram so if you care to follow me you can. I am also on Facebook.
      Good luck to you!

    3M stick on will work superbly. Nice job G. Cole Porter tunes work too. Ride safe and ride often.

      Okay good advice...I was gonna ride with this helmet today...but the adhesive pad just was not gripping. Strange because they've always worked well in the past? Maybe the curve of the helmet to the base....I was going to try some Gorilla Glue, couldn't stand the idea of smearing glue on a brand new helmet! But I am going to the double sided tape.To follow.

    FREECOM 2X with JBL speakers
    Com is well assembled and I'm here to give advice for very CRUCIAL part of installing Freecom and is about speakers position!
    Me and my wife have same helmets in different sizes. Her is XS and mine is XL ( I have a bigger brain 😉) They are SHARK Spartan Carbon. It does'nt matter what manufacturer you have.
    Helmet has pre fabricated position for speakers inside inner shell. First I fitted speakers inside her helmet and I returned padings back for her to try it and see if speakers bother her somehow. There was no bother and I stuck my finger inside to see if it's relative to her ear.
    The speaker was 1.5 cm behind ear!!
    I took knife and I cuted inner shell so I can move speaker forward. I did it right and speakers are on the ear spot on!!
    Then I had my helmet testing with speakers positioned on pre fabricated slots. It fits PERFECT! So it means that I DID'NT HAD TO MODIFY my inner shell at all!
    Conclusion:
    It is CRUCIAL to test position of speakers before attaching everything! When you do that right, you will be stisfied as I am 🥳
    Sound is awesome and be patient with installation!!

      REALLY appreciate this additional information Jovan! And it makes good sense. So, we should add an instruction to see where the speakers in the helmet cut outs line up in relation to ones ears.
      Excellent contribution!

    Did you remove the ear covers that come with the cheek pads?
    What i mean is if the speakers go directly touching your ears or if you left the filter/screen/cover for the ears that come with the cheek pads

      The speakers are uncovered in my set up, so I removed the foam pads in the helmet.

    Hi there, this video helped me a lot with my installation. I placed the adhesive pad higher where the helmet has a curve and now my wire shows which looks bad abut it is secure. The helmet has a slight depression near the base and maybe that's why your adhesive plate did not stick.

    • @GareyCooperdude
      @GareyCooperdude  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you’re correct here….I was trying to keep the Cardo down low as possible and the depression that you are talking probably did keep the adhesive pad from sticking…..but I still wanted it low and went to the double sided tape. Thanks for the comment!

    Hi Garey. Is it possible to clip the unit in the helmet rather than the adhesive option?

    • @GareyCooperdude
      @GareyCooperdude  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There ARE clip in options, it depends upon the helmet and the design of the communicator module. There is a pack talk slim that is designed to clip to the side of the helmet. The helmet itself must be able to accommodate the clip end that slides between the helmet and the liner......

      @BurnetBob 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is a great video, thank you Garey! I was about to call Cardo for advice because I noticed right away the problem with the adhesive mount not working well. The problem is that the helmet, in the best mounting location, is concave vertically. Therefore the front-to-back curve of the mounts is good, but the top-to-bottom flatness of the mount does not contact the helmet at the very center. The good news is that the clip mount DOES seem to work. Until I saw your video I thought that the inner padding did not detach from the outer shell to allow the clamp to slide in, but it does! I haven't installed mine yet but will come back and confirm if it works with the clip mount. @@GareyCooperdude

      @@BurnetBob Hi Bob, makes me feel very good to have helped. Hopefully you'll have the same luck with your installation. As a side note I finally put a chin mounted GoPro mount on my K6....after a year or so the "newness" had gotten to the point where I could actually do this. I did a VLOG of the first ride using this helmet to video here; th-cam.com/video/wBzZQWSpeiQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Vu90leQqWjOntLqY.
      Right now the helmet is in great shape and all the bits and pieces are working together nicely.

    Do you recommend I go up in size for this helmet after I put a com system in? I also use a dead sock.

    • @GareyCooperdude
      @GareyCooperdude  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't think that is necessary...as the helmet has recesses for the speakers, pockets molded into the helmet. One can also in many cases buy differently sized pads that may give a few more increments of room if needed. But, as stated I don't think you'd need to go up a helmet size for the Cardo unit. Good luck with your own installation!

    How it the wind noise at high-speed? I have a K6 and with earbuds there is alot of pounding on the old ear drums...looking for a solution to listen to music and not go deaf!

    • @GareyCooperdude
      @GareyCooperdude  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I find it to be a relatively quiet helmet. For my purposes I use custom molded ear plugs, and for music in this helmet I use a Cardo “FreeCom” system. I don’t think that earbuds are going to do the job for noise suppression, my opinion.

      First off your video helped immensely with installing the Cardo generally but I did install it to a K1. The problem I ran into was putting the cheek pads back in is getting it tucked back in where the wires come out. How did you make it fit back in? I don't want to pinch or damage the wires on the cardo

    • @GareyCooperdude
      @GareyCooperdude  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@akigrace3144 I just went out to the garage to look at the helmet and installation again. The wires that come out of the mount base DO have to go through a rather tight radius turn back into the helmet....but they'll be okay and I haven't had an issue with them since the install.....I took a photo, are you on facebook, instagram? Or, just send me your email and I will forward the photo to you....
