I agree, and I enjoyed it so much the first time, that this is the second time I am listening to it. Luckily I had a small stroke after the first time, so a lot of the story still comes as a little surprises once again! Silver linings and all that, lol.
I understand the idea of reiterating that Joe had no military experience but honestly, aside from the special forces groups, the average US military service member is not trained in survival. I spent 8 yrs in the USMC, combat in Iraq and Afghanistan, we are trained to fight, not hunt, fish, purify water etc. To be honest, Joe is better trained to actually survive the apocalypse than 99% of the guys I served with. Does he lack weapons knowledge, tactics and combat skills, yes but the average Marine has no idea how to field dress a deer and butcher it.
Ok Marine. You and your boys get a deer, preferably not blown into deer burger, and I'll show you how to field dress, butcher, and cook it. If you guys behave yourselves I'll even provide crayons for desert. 😃

1:03:47 "...Let's go home before this gets ugly." WTF??? Listen, so far I do like this audiobook, but that part right there is absolutely ridiculous and unrealistic as hell. Car's are crashing all around them. There are injured people falling out of vehicles. 1 full size jet just crashed into the mom's work, that she just left like 10 minutes ago, killing her fellow employees. And another full size jet just crashed into the school where her daughter had just been no more than 4 min ago, killing a good majority of her teachers and friends. Yet somehow neither mom or daughter so much as gets a bit blurry eyed. No real shock. No crying over the sudden loss of life and craziness around them. Instead we get the daughter saying they need to get home BEFORE it gets ugly???? The author has the daughter possessing the calmness of a seasoned special forces soldier, instead of like the12 year old girl she is, that would be going completely bonkers, crying and screaming. I hope there are not too many more of those unrealistic moments. It kind of spoils the whole vibe.
Jeremy, you have the same problem with it as I do. First off, it is WAY too "domestic" for a SHTF story. The main three are all way too "chill" in a scene that would be utter chaos and savage within 24 hrs. The so called experts say 72 hrs. until it goes sideways, but I never thought that was accurate. I know people from the cities and the farmland and the mountains in this country, or have known them. Within 24 hrs. the big cities will be lawless and you will see murder and assault out in the open in the middle of the day. In combat we become animals very quickly and empathy for another uniformed meatsack is gone. And you are eating everyday, you are with brothers who have your back, meds, structure (usually) plenty of shit to keep a tether on reality. But even that makes zero difference. Imagine what goes down after an EMP. Almost instant savagery of all kinds. So, yup, this sounds more like a crappy camping trip.

Love listening to this series! Very much enjoyed the narration as well. I’ve only got about 90 minutes left; a wee worried that it can’t all be wrapped up. Great writing.
Currently enjoying this audible. So far there are 2 things that just strike me as unrealistic for 99%. The women pushing her husband off on another women because she has cancer and is dying. The other is people moving on so quickly after losing their parents. Doesn’t go into the depths of traumatic loss. Ie like calling someone else mom weeks after losing your mom. Except with infants this is unrealistic. Enjoying the story.
First off you should never put spoilers into a comment without warning that there are spoilers in your comment second off you're not taking into consideration the situation they are in she knew her husband would die if he didn't move on right away
You don't really have time to grieve when you're fighting for your life. How would you know if any of this seems realistic? Have you lived through a worldwide apocalypse?
I think it depends on the age of the ones who survive. I lost my mother at a young age and I had to adapt, no choice since my father remarried. Sadly he remarried a creature that should have never been permitted access to children in this galaxy. Luckily for me, my favourite aunt lived within walking distance and I spent as much time as possible at her home. My father has passed and NO I do not have a relationship with that creature, nor do I allow anyone to call her my *mom*, she never was and never will be.
One THING THEY keep forgetting with these books. No one mentions the disaster FROM Nuclear Power Plants. Why do THEY always forget that ONE MAIN PROBLEM. NOW THAT WILL CHANGE THE WHOLE NARRATIVE OF ANY OF THESE SURVIVAL STORIES. Lol
Great story this my 3rd time listening to this book amazing. The narrator is awesome his voice is one that keeps you listening .also the female narrator. They really go good together. KEEP these stories coming
We should start now writing in a journal or make letters. There are so many things i truly want my kids to understand and right now they are teens and "know everything " an in turn don't want lessons from ma. They will want them some day. I know because i wish i had some from my dad.
Pros and cons of the story. PRO:Technical data on firearms, ammunition, geography and military equipment is spot on. Story doesn't really slow down and become stale, the action is well written, plot and characters are fleshed out. CONS: I felt a lot of the story was the "Kobey and Chloe apocalyptic soap opera". The repetitive rambling on about jealousy, sex, breaking up Cole and Chloe, threatening Cole over Chloe, Kobey's constant female misogynistic bullshit towards men, "training men, I'm as capable" blah blah blah, it got tedious every time we visited the main characters. The lack of emotions in characters who witnessed their parents being killed yet they are portrayed as immediately being able to call Joe and Kobey "mom and dad". The instant bounce back to normalcy by women who were kept as sex slaves was unbelievable. Overall, I enjoyed the book, if you can tolerate roughly 6 hrs of soap opera bullshit, you should enjoy it.
Tyvm for saying what I'm thinking ...is this book by a guy? Because it really reads a lot like a torrid girly romance novel. Kind of disturbing, that 16-year-old snooping around a 12-year-old, though. It seems like a lot of pedophiles fixate on their preferred sex/age in their late teens/early 20s. But no therapy after this, lol
What a great series. Very gritty and nonstop fast paced action I'm looking into a few books mentioned in this series and can't wait to hear Cole's saga
To convenience that he inherited, moved, bought an old truck , bought the correct supplies and converted money to silver, all within a few days. To convenient.
The fact that I'm 5 minutes in and have rolled my eyes up past my forehead multiple times makes me think that's not a good omen for the reality of the advice I can get from this book or the satisfaction of the story. 🤦♀️ I don't know if I can stick it out to find out.
Let's hope rap has died out by 2038, when I think this story is set, if I understood the timeline correctly. That would be one small blessing at the end of the world ;-) (I had hoped rap would have died out back in the eighties when I first heard that BS).
I love how easily and sensibly the characters kill. It's so refreshing. Most other books make me cringe and lose interest quickly with their goody goody let's all be friends and hold hands till we're shot in the back by the people we humanly spared bullshit. If anyone knows of any other audio books like this I'd love some suggestions. I usually listen to zombie post-apocalyptic stuff to make my nights at work go quick but lately have broadened my horizons to emp, virus, or other TEOTWAWKI books. Zombie Rules was one of my favorite but I can't find it on utube to relisten.
you might like checking out and following BZA RZA GZA he's an independent writer/narrator/prepper and does some kick ass post apocalyptic books called the "Carrington Chronicles" that are realistic. He's got a lot of parts to his book already out so it will give you days of listening and he's still going to produce more but has been on a break for a bit working full-time to make ends meat since the economy has went to 💩check him out 😉
You also might like One Second After by William Forstchen. If you like it, it has sequels as well. I personally think bza rza gza's series is even better, but I did enjoy the one second after series as well.

"Pellet rifles" in the usa, you can get pellet rifles for hunting big game. And silencers are already in the box. Unless you live in certain states, of course. None of them make you do paperwork to buy a pellet rifle though. Full auto, 30 cal, throwing hollow points? It will do as a Liberty weapon.

Well it is fiction so there is that
You don't really have time to grieve when you're fighting for your life. How would you know if any of this seems realistic? Have you lived through a worldwide apocalypse?
My sister in law picked out his next wife ..it worked ...she died peaceful.
Lol
Ummmmm, there’s only 92 nuclear power stations in the US. 🤦♂️
Great story this my 3rd time listening to this book amazing. The narrator is awesome his voice is one that keeps you listening .also the female narrator. They really go good together. KEEP these stories coming
Absolutely loving this book. Fab story and awesome narrator. Thank you 🙏
🤠 GRANDMA 👵 LETTERS HOW GREAT A IDEA. HOW MANY WISH THEY HAD LETTER FROM LOVED ONES THAT HAVE DIED???
We should start now writing in a journal or make letters. There are so many things i truly want my kids to understand and right now they are teens and "know everything " an in turn don't want lessons from ma. They will want them some day. I know because i wish i had some from my dad.
I read these years ago, enjoy hearing it read aloud. Forget so much.
Thank you for posting this. I really enjoyed it. Hoping the other books are posted sometime, too.
Hi what is the series called? And who is the author?
American Apocalypse Box Set, books 1-4 by AJ Newman
@@GingerlesSoul Thank you
Kevin pierce is one of my favourite narrators 🙂 thanks for this and great bonus there are no zombies
Thanks was a great read, Loved the Grandma letters.
And I just Love most of this authors books
This book set is called: American Apocalypse Box Set - A Post Apocalyptic Survival Series
Thank you, you triggered alot of fond memories of my grandparents
Great ideas and lessons learned from this audiobook.
What a fabulous narrating voice!
You need to bring back those other books they were so good
Thank you for putting this together! Very entertaining
Tyvm for saying what I'm thinking
...is this book by a guy? Because it really reads a lot like a torrid girly romance novel. Kind of disturbing, that 16-year-old snooping around a 12-year-old, though. It seems like a lot of pedophiles fixate on their preferred sex/age in their late teens/early 20s. But no therapy after this, lol
If you want to read a technical manual, there are plenty of those available. This is a work of fiction, which includes drama.
🤠 TO ALL WHO ENJOYED AS MUCH AS MYSELF I SAY
THE END LOVE ❤️ GRANDMA 👵
What a great series. Very gritty and nonstop fast paced action I'm looking into a few books mentioned in this series and can't wait to hear Cole's saga
Thanks for loading this on TH-cam. I appreciate it.
Kevin is my favorite narrator..lol he could read Humpty Dumpty and I would be entranced 😂❤
This was a really good series.
Could you post Cole's Saga?
What is coles saga is there a spin off?
@@Dino2GunZ yes. It has Cole and John's parents. I think this guys name was John. I'm several books passed this one
What is the name of this audio book and who is the author?
Very good story and excellent reading
Thank you to the author & the narrator
Bought the book so I can have a good read on camping trips. Thanks
I'm really enjoying this as well and grandma rocks
Love granny’s advice sooooo true😅 I’m looking forward to this story ❤️
🤠 FORD 9N I'VE OWNED 2 THEY ARE SMALL AND TOUGH AS NAILS
To convenience that he inherited, moved, bought an old truck , bought the correct supplies and converted money to silver, all within a few days. To convenient.
Yup, just another fiction, about unbelievable luck. In movies, some people are shot at by 20 people and they all miss.
Joe shouldn’t have apologized for anything. He did what was right and if that idiot woman doesn’t like it she can go take on the world by herself.
I like Grandma;s words of encouragement Such as "Suck it up buttercup" 🥰
The fact that I'm 5 minutes in and have rolled my eyes up past my forehead multiple times makes me think that's not a good omen for the reality of the advice I can get from this book or the satisfaction of the story.
🤦♀️ I don't know if I can stick it out to find out.
I know, it’s a bit 😬 cringey
Definitely worth the read some of his dialogue is a bit cringey but he gets the message across
It's got great ideals to think about but the writing can be a bit simple
Jane said to Chloe “grownups are not used to hearing kids talk about killing people.” Has the author never heard rap????
Touch grass bruh most rap isn't about killing
Let's hope rap has died out by 2038, when I think this story is set, if I understood the timeline correctly. That would be one small blessing at the end of the world ;-) (I had hoped rap would have died out back in the eighties when I first heard that BS).
@@yootoobnz8109That genre of music (?) is generally referred yo as “crap” at my house, lol
Or metal rock, hate rock or alternative rock!
@@yootoobnz8109isn't it too bad that you have to not listen to something that you don't like! 🙄 Dimwit!
Adrians undead diary is great. Alt apocolypse is a good set. And America falls is excellent.
you might like checking out and following BZA RZA GZA he's an independent writer/narrator/prepper and does some kick ass post apocalyptic books called the "Carrington Chronicles" that are realistic.
I agree with the suggestion to listen to One Second After by William Forstchen. Probably the best, in my opinion.
White Flag of the Dead was a great zombie series. I loved Adrians Undead Diaries too.
Any chance you're going to be posting Cole's saga?
Rabbit stew

If they don’t add other meats and fats to their diets they will be in trouble- people can get “rabbit starvation” or protein poisoning. Too much protein and not enough fat and carbs are not healthy for us humans.
No zombies. Just terrorists.
The story is great and Kevin Pierce is such an amazing narrator
Excellent series...this would be a great series on TV..or a movie
Fair warning, every audio book i watch gets takin down, not my fault, i lover the audiobooks, and i love books read by this guy too, i hope to see more
Ain’t just you, you also search daily using obscure words I’d bet, it’s a algorithm thing once a threshold is hit cOpeeR¡g#+ (NEVER USE THAT WORD!!!!) kicks in
I wish they would have spent more time on the treasure hunt.
Omg love these books. I read them a while back. So stoked the books are on YT
I would get one. Kinda pricey tho
Thank you so much hun that was very nice of you to remember
The guy narrating reminds me of the guy who used to host and narrated the TV show Unsolved Mysteries. Well written and a fantastic story. It's worth the time of every minute to listen to. 👍🏻👍🏻
His name is Kevin Pierce. I just love his voice.
I like the old Lady , she is a class act ;)
