Hong Kong is in the grip of its biggest political crisis since the city’s 1997 handover from British rule to Chinese sovereignty. Continuing protests, which at times turned violent, have slammed the government since it proposed an amendment to the city's extradition laws that would open the door to transfers of suspects to mainland China.
Hong Kong people say they are slowly losing freedoms they enjoy - freedoms not offered to citizens on the Chinese mainland. But how do mainlanders who live and study or work in Hong Kong view the crisis?

@@martijnkeulen5937 I'm sure China like any other country have their own propaganda but I can't read Chinese so I will not argue with you on this point. However, I have some HK friends and relatives that send me videos of the crazy things rioters are doing that Western and HK media never show. Western media call these peaceful protest and claim completely unarmed protesters were met with police brutality, but in the videos that were never published in mainstream media, the police were outnumbered and the mobs were viciously attacking police, which led to the police actions that I see in the news. Two days ago a rioter was shot by police; Western media only show the part where the cop open fire and cut out the part prior to the shooting, which would show why the cop had no choice but to fire as he was fearing for his life and his fellow cop that was on the ground being beaten by a mob with lethal steel pipes and hammer. To be fair, news outlet should show the full video so viewers can judge for themselves instead of hiding evidence and twisting facts to mislead the public. Comparing what I see on the news the past months and watching uncut video footages and hearing from actual friends and families living in HK, I find the dishonesty and deception in Western and HK media quite disgusting.

Drawing griffati, preventing train doors from closing, blocking walkway, blocking road, spraying paint on camera, cutting down lamp post, etc, the culprit/s ought to be arrested on the spot. Why? Because these people are criminals. They have broken the law regardless.
If these criminals are captured and jailed, the protests will be more peaceful. No more violent people in the protestors and the jailing will serve as a deterent.
In some strict countries like Singapore, all these rioters will be jailed for a few years and be caned.

Honestly speaking, many people in Chinese aren't so tought against the HK people as HK people are. Actually, the protests that have taken place in HK over the past one and half year was all due to the vast cultural difference between Chinese nationals and HongKongese. Both are totally lack of understanding towards the government consitutional system and make more inflammatory remarks to the others. I have checked the comments among many social medias and most of them are not atrocious. Education is one of the most essential aspects of what sustains a healthy, high~quality and dynamic soceity. The education in HK needs to be curbed and makes a fundamental improvement. Many students are seditious told to be tough against China by listening many thing negative about China. My suggestion is organzing a tour to China, letting students understand the Chinese cultures and exchange ideas from different Chinese students. Such controversities are avoidable if there are more and more rational talks and multi~sided conversations between Chinese students and HK students.

Facts Check, GDP per capita comparison (you can check yourself)
In 1996/1997, mainland China is about 1/40 (worse for earlier years) of Hong Kong and UK is a little higher than Hong Kong. In 2018, mainland China is 1/4 (or 1/5 depending on PPP or not) and Hong Kong is about 30% higher than UK. Shenzhen (and some other major cities in mainland China), out of nowhere, has exceeded Hong Kong in total GDP since 2017 and has GDP per capita of 2/3 (some say higher with PPP) of Hong Kong.
Did Hong Kong lose its glory from 1997 and before? Completely the opposite with these numbers. As a matter of fact, mainland China has contributed greatly to current prosperity of Hong Kong against UK. What was lost is the relative "supremacy" for Hong Kong vs mainland China. For this, people in Hong Kong should feel happy instead as we are in the same blood line in broader sense. Anyways, per 张爱玲, Hong Kong's prosperity was borrowed (香港的繁荣是借来的) and rooted in China. Think about this deeply before any reckless actions.
Also, per maslow's hierarchy of needs, the development of a society should come in that order also, as witnessed by development of Asian tigers. You have to give credits to the achievements of Chinese government for this regard. The achievements are high/impressive enough to make the only super power to use any excuses to push down or even destroy China/Chinese companies and it will inevitably spill into Chinese people (no matter where you are) as long as you have different views (here goes the freedom and democracy) together with racism.
Think carefully and globally and historically about what you should do. I would rather race to make Hong Kong a high tech hub or something like Singapore.

Read the comments I think its best to be clear to all. Mainland Chinese for the most part are willing to put up with the CCP so long as it provides social stability and economic progress, and rightfully so just a generation or two ago the only thing those people knew were poverty, mass famines, and chaos. HK people who have enjoyed the benefits of development much earlier can afford to prioritize other so called rights such as "freedom". HK may be a tough place to live but I don''t think any of those protestors are demonstrating against their lack of food.
The western world instigates conflicts in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Egypt, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Venezuela under the guise of "democracy" and "freedom" thinking that it understands and knows the priorities of the people who reside there. Ask any African, Latin American, Middle Easterner peace and prosperity comes before politics not the other way round. I think Hong Kong police can learn a few tricks from British police, the best one of which is called Kettling. Kettling simply means blocking all the ways that demonstrators have in an area and leading them to a narrow area. This way they are stopped from spreading the disruption. When this stage is achieved, only one tiny passage is opened where the police easily can arrest and film anybody who walks out. I don’t think we in Britain taught you this trick when we were there, but anyway we didn’t let you have democracy and the right to vote during the 100 years we ruled over your shoulders. Kettling was also one of the tricks we kept for ourselves.
