  • GET READY GUYS! 2023 will be full of adventures. We will take the Mog to remote places and do as many activities as possible. We will share all the amazing camping spots (most of them will be free) and what it's like to live in a crazy off-road truck FULL TIME!
    It's gonna be epic!

    This week we tested the limits of our Unimog Expedition Truck!
    We have done a lot of sand driving and realized (well, we actually already knew before), that the Mog doesn't have enough horsepower :D
    Getting up sandy hills is a bit of a pain, but everything else is manageable and FUN!
    We really enjoy cruising along the beautiful beaches of WA!
    We found a free camp called Boat Harbour on WIKIcamps and read in the comments that it might be a bit of a rough track in. We were definitely up for the challenge (like always :D) and hit the tracks!
    It started off being a nice dirt road, then a SUPER CORRUGATED dirt road and then it turned into a sandy track that was bit overgrown. Once we got to the camp spot we were so happy we did it because it was stunning!
    We decided to stay for two nights so we could get some maintenance done as well. Printing out a new Mercedes badge with our 3D printer as well as a new bolt for the winch (cause we lost one), found some other spots where we have lost bolts even though we check all the time and replaced the pressure switch of our water pump because the old one failed. It is always good to carry around a few spare pressure switches since these are the first parts to fail on these water pumps.
    Once we left Boat Harbour and got onto another track, which was quite rough, we realized we wouldn't be able to make it all the way to our next destination since the track was washed away and the angles got worse and worse! We didn't really wanna risk flipping our home on it's side, so we decided to turn around, which was a challenge itself!!!
    We really enjoyed those tracks though and the area BUT stay tuned for next week! ALL WE CAN SAY, IT WAS WILD, WAY OUT OF OUR COMFORT ZONE and WE WOULDN'T WANNA DO IT AGAIN!
    Catch you all next Sunday again!!!!

    Honestly Team, don’t be scared to drop pressures down to 15psi. Then she will float everywhere, no more getting bogged.

    • @PatandJele
      @PatandJele  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Since we are so heavy we don't like going past 20psi in the front and 30 in the rear. That is usually enough to get out of any deeper sand anyways.

    Glad you are out enjoying your vehicle, after all the hard work you both put in getting there. It's fun watching the struggles of manoeuvring around obstacles and through soft sand. Traveling with others would probably be vital in less than ideal conditions. I guess you are finding out your limits. Pleasure to watch. Thanks for uploading. I particularly enjoyed your sharp intake of breath as you both plunged into the rockpool!!!

    Great look at behind the scenes guys. With the pressure pump, it would be better to use a DC Rated Relay switched by the AC rated switch to eliminate changing it all the time. Just a thought.

    Well, you two,
    where you quickly reach the limits with every car, is soft dunes and alluvial sand. Only those who drive only in such sand.
    Under normal off-road conditions, the Unimog drives everywhere when the tyres fit and are not bare. You drive a very good Unimog and it is a robust and safe vehicle, with a lot of space. Greetings from Frankfurt, take good care of you.

    • @PatandJele
      @PatandJele  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it doesn't like deep boggy sand especially when going up the hill because they are sooooo under powered. Also, having a big heavy box on the back is limiting. You can't lean as much to one side (especially our heavy side) cause it will tip over eventually. Makes a huge difference if you have a habitation box on the back or a flat tray🙈

      Laugh, 12 - 13 tons are something different than 2 tons, just convert the weight on the tire surface, you will notice the difference. This is the reality.
      In addition, the expedition vehicles are also unfavorably designed by the weight distribution. From the container, the largest weight should be front and not on the rear axle and in the middle. On the next tires, check with Mikey Thompson - Baja Pro X - Very good tire.
      Have fun, now I drink a Mönchshof Hell. Prost und passt auf euch gut auf.

    22:00 The Mog would walk down that with out issue, given the correct vehicle positioning. They are an exceptionally capable vehicle. Slowly you will build confidence in your Mog.

    • @PatandJele
      @PatandJele  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree but there are some risks you don't want to take when your house is on the back. Give us someone else's Mog and we'll cruise down there ;) We have had angles similar to that, but it does feel very sketchy..

  • @chrisfs150
    @chrisfs150 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Its late in the day after when this video came out..
    but have the pressure switch switch a relay at a tiny dc current which it can handle then the dc relay rated at what you need will do all the work and then the pressure switch wont screw up...

    • @chrisfs150
      @chrisfs150 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also thats a fair.y standard switch im sure they do dc rated ones that might help

    How do you find driving on side slope.? Is it scary. Who many degree angle will you go up to before it's gets to dangerous

    • @PatandJele
      @PatandJele  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well it always depends... Can't tell you an exact number since we just put in a gage so we know what anglr we're on.
      We have a heavy side and a light side so when the light side is down we aren't as scared but when the heavy side is facing down we are VERY careful🙈

    • @PatandJele
      @PatandJele  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We could have let a few psi out, but in the end the truck is still 12t and massively underpowered... not good prerequisites for sand driving. That being said we have found a good range of pressures to run at and it is surprising where we can go.
