hand lotion! after wash and conditioning, brush or comb hand lotion into he wet wig. do not rinse. let the wig drip dry. This method saved my life with my Grell cosplay. (careful. too much will make your wig feel dirty) It's a great method that also works to make cheap wigs look less shiny!
yari AJ I just dragged out my first wig last night from my closet. About 5 years old too. I used vinegar+conditioner to revive it instead of fabric softener. it's actually looking brand new!
"choose one that is firm but not too stiff, but stiff enough to slap the shit out of someone if they try to touch you inappropriately at an event" THIS IS THE BEST ADVICE EVER
Tbh the first half should already be common knowledge for people with long hair. I already knew thanks to dealing with my own longer-than-waist-length hair. Something she did neglect to mention though she did it herself is to start from the tips when combing, otherwise you just end up with a big ball of frizz that gets harder and harder to comb.
What I have started to do for my long hair is after the shampoo is keep a wide comb in the shower with you and hook it around one of the hot/cold knobs if you have two or the singular one or the faucet for the bath and then after you shampoo and wash it out (I shampoo and spray my hair with Johnson and Johnson's baby detangling spray as I have found others due to my sensitive skin and sensitive scalp make me itch, break out, etc. more) comb it out and not only does that work more of the shampoo through BUT that also helps to straighten before adding the conditioner to lessen it knotting when both go in! Also, while I do not cosplay I would recommend the baby detangler for the wigs as it contains no silicone and/or other "hair stripping" and/or "color stripping" chemicals that could damage the synthetic wig unlike the horse hair detangling spray. Some of my friends with longer hair go so far as to step out of the shower after a shampoo and brush their whole hair out and use their straightener and then go back in and do the conditioner portion and I admit I did try that once and it did make it more manageable but for my hair all of that heat makes my hair just too dry and scalp just too itchy and annoying, so I just stick to combing after shampooing and then after I condition spray my hair and comb it out and straighten after my full shower. It has cut down what used to be ALMOST 3 HOURS even with hooking and pulling my thick long hair to 30! Also, every other day I ONLY condition and so 4 days a week I just condition to the maximum amount of time stated on the bottle's directions and then three days a week I shampoo and condition! It has also caused me to give up the medicated shampoo I thought I would be dependent on forever as a "booster" after my favorite shampoo/conditioner (the Head and Shoulders Sensitive Scalp bottle) was discontinued and their other "close" formulas do not work for my hair type and the "fragrances/dyes/etc." they use in them cause skin issues for me (their eucalyptus one caused me to lose half my face once and I have a nut allergy so I can't use the almond one for Dry Scalp).
Another tip for curling wigs that are made low quality fibers is to use boiling water. After the curlers are in place use boiling water to drench each hair section ( carefully over a sink!!), allow to dry completely before removing curlers. It will set the curl a little stronger than usual and is often used on dolls for resetting the curl to their frizzy tangled hair. :)
I had just recieved a really badly maintained wig, even though it was actually a pretty good one. I had no idea what to do but this really helped me out, thank you.

Another tip to mention is when storing your wigs, braid them to prevent harsh tangling whether you’re packing for a con, or wont be wearing it for a while. On another note, I did this tutorial with my Miku wig pieces, and it worked so good for the 2 days I cosplayed as her. Then I just kinda threw it to the side lol. I’m horrible at wig care sometimes. uwu

THANK YOU for stating the safety precaution of using the "horse and mane detangling" spray of it being super slippery on surface of the floor! I used this stuff on one of my very first cosplay wigs (hatsune miku) when I started cosplaying years back to help detangle the clips and I sprayed a lot on that stuff on the fibers over wood floor. The next day I walked by the area that I was styling at and about fell on my back within a second because the floor was so slippery! 😱😱 I even tried using it over carpeting to avoid falling but that stuff even makes your carpet slippery too! Lol this stuff is awesome but I've learned to be careful of covering the floor before spraying this stuff.
same! When i got a long wig everyone just kept telling me to throw it out if it got tangled like that, my mom eventually threw it out without asking me..
Iwasaka Miyuki I work weekends now, though, so it's become a task to find time to do this! plus I have to not be paying for two apartments and near-constant car repairs! but I need my wigs in july, so I HAVE to do it!

I was in desperate need of a tutorial to help detangle my Tsuyu Asui wigs. As you can imagine the wig is very long and can easily be tangled. I experimented with steaming my wig and I successfully detangle the entire wig and added her hair oil to keep its beautiful natural straight hair. I don't normally comment on TH-cam videos, but I wanted to thank you with all my heart because this saved me from going completely insane trying to untangle a super long wig. Thank you so much!
This is the most helpful video in the world! I have had such a hard time with my longer wigs because even after taking out of the packages, they automatically tangle. I am definitely going to try to fix it now! I had heard about the fabric softener trick, but I am glad to have an actual tutorial now!
I almost threw away an old cosplay wig cause it was in such bad shape but I soaked it for a day and then used a straight iron. What worked amazing well and surprised me was flat ironing over the tangles to get rid of some of the frizz and then working through the tangles. The wig isn't perfect but it looks so much better! Thanks!
Thank you so much! I only started doing cosplay and my wig was awful... now I could untangle it completely and it looks so nice and smooth again. Thank you so much

Very true! Make sure you're wig or hair extensions are heat-friendly, though, or they may become a matted, melted mess.
If you use cold water after the boiling it'll set the hair in place stronger

This and another tutorial for making wigs out of wool/yarn makes me wanna make wigs and convince my friend to go to cons with me, she's been to one before and I haven't. Though I'd not be cosplaying, I couldn't do that while shes went as one of the Hitachiin twins before
Not cosplaying and I don’t even watch anime I wonder how I ended up here but I enjoyed the video 😂😂😂
maybe we want wigs? in the future?
i'm- the hook and pull method is gonna save so many of my wigs- i've never seen anyone do that ever thank you
This is amazing looks so nice. Sadly mine didn't turn out that nice. And yours seemed more tangled 😭😭they look nicer but definitely not as neat as yours look. But this is definitely life saving!
Thanks for this! I can finally get in my tsuyu, kokichi, monika, renge and yuri cosplay!
Who else is scrolling through the comments to see if it really works??????
Mourin N World me
This woman is the only person that I trust on this planet.
Do you know how thankful I am for your channel? hOLY
I just want to thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial, I sent this video to every of my friends who are cosplayers drag queens etc! This video saved my life thank you so much! 💫💕
Omg I love how you said "stuff enough to slap the shit out of someone if they try to touch you inappropriately" I love you! ❤️
I like how innocent she sounds like when she talks but what she say is so much different than what she sound like
ok but my nozomi wig is hell. Its the most fizz ou have ever seen and Giant knots cause the hair is so tiny
Yukino Neno I have a Nozomi wig too and its actually hell to detangle
Yukino Neno thats why im here!, trying to keep my nozo wig nice😅
Yukino Neno my yuno gasai wig is fr hell I tried laundry detergent and conditioner but I realized I was using a regular brush XD but I used leave in conditioner and it kinda worked but I think what she did would help ;-;
honestly, same. My Nozomi wig is the exact same
Same , what's up with nozomi wigs and them being hell to detangle!
Thank you for this!
Here I am a middle-aged white dude who never thought I would need a tutorial like this, but this totally saved my bacon trying to recover my daughters cosplay at the last minute!
1:56 "dry your wig in the holy water"
im dying😂😂😂
she said drown
Wooooooooow this is one of the most helpful videos I've seen on synthetic wigs. Honestly, life changing! Going to buy fabric softener right now!!

Iwasaka Miyuki I'm trying to cosplay miku hatsune
Hello! I am new to this channel and may I just say hearing your soft voice and contrasting sense of humor with profanity is something I greatly appreciate 😆
"stiff enough to slap the shit out of someone if they try to touch you inappropriately at an event." I'm cackling !
I don't normally comment on TH-cam videos, but I wanted to thank you with all my heart because this saved me from going completely insane trying to untangle a super long wig. Thank you so much!
u saved my jinx's wig and my life
This is the most helpful video in the world! I have had such a hard time with my longer wigs because even after taking out of the packages, they automatically tangle. I am definitely going to try to fix it now! I had heard about the fabric softener trick, but I am glad to have an actual tutorial now!
Just bought a lower quality, 5ft long straight wig, going to try ghis!! Hopefully it works for a wig this long!
The hair gel description is the best part of this! That and how incredibly helpful this tutorial is to begin with.
i wish i found this tutorial when i still don't know how to repair my wig. learn it the hard way lol
Ve Omo would you recommend warm water or cold?
Thank you so much! The only videos I have seen before this don't tell how to prevent tangles in the first place. I'll definitely be subscribing.
I needed to fix my wig for my trans friend! She’s gonna be so happy!
WE STAN QUEEN AND SUPPORTIVE FRIENDS!!! send also her all my support !!!!!!!!
Thanks!
Love the tips you shared! It would be more convenient if you could list down the items you've used in your description box next time. Thanks!
Glad you love them :D Good idea, updated the list in the description box!
Thank you so much! I only started doing cosplay and my wig was awful... now I could untangle it completely and it looks so nice and smooth again. Thank you so much
This is very helpful!
Thank you for making this video!
Any chance you have one on cutting or styling wigs for cosplay?
I'm new when it comes to using them...
Try Arda Wigs's channel or site! They've got some helpful tuts.
I’m digging the Snail’s House background music. This is a super helpful video!
"But stiff enough to slap the sh*t out of someone is they try to touch you inappropriately."
Best. Sentence. EVER.
You just got yourself a new subscriber. I watched your make-up video and already found it quite helpful (The eyebrows one, yoooooo), but this just saved my entire group's wigs (although it made me their wig barber for some reason, smh). Thank you for those videos, I truly appreciate them!
I only found your video because I needed to detangle/ de-frizz an old halloween wing. I loved it so much!! The way you broke it down into easy steps and how hilarious you were! I'm gonna watch all your videos just to watch them now. lol
