Great video, answered all my questions. Seeing Kim do the setup and takedown shows me that I will be able to use it by myself. Thanks! ☮️❤️😎
You’re welcome.
Great review! Had the issue with sunny days making the tent HOT. Made quick work of that problem by making what I call a "Sun-Fly" I put over the tent made out of mylar. I have a 3 minute video showing it on my channel for anyone who might be interested. My next project will be to make a side panel or two out of the same mylar to better protect the side of the tent that would get the most sun exposure. Now even in direct sun, I can enjoy the same temperature inside the tent as I would under the full shade of a tree! It's been a game changer for our camping in the summer!
Can’t agree more. It can get very hot in the sun. We don’t get too much of that in the NW.😂. Thanks for sharing your tips.
So I think the selling points for me are the easy up with no construction as well as the durability of construction. But after watching your video re buying the walls... well this is a game changer. So it might be speedy but honestly, you are getting huge flexibility of use here. It can be just a screen tent or can completely convert to a tent, thereby adding an extra sleeping/changing or even shower/potty area if needed. I am sold!
Those are all great points Catherine. We really like it and have been more than happy with the purchase
Hey there, just watched your 3 year review, then found 1st review. I own 2 of the Quickset Escape, also got at Bed, Bath & Beyond...clearance at $49 each & used 20% discount. Somebody returned still new. Ordered same brown walls with windows, 4 of 3 pks from Tractor Supply store & got deal. Owned mine for @ 7+ years. Enjoy.
Dang now that’s a deal.
Yes indeed. Had no idea what is a "Clam quickset" -looked up while in store-realized the deal & grabbed them. Used it yesterday at a Community BBQ at a park. Set up by myself-had big outdoor area rug down & my travel furniture set up. Got minimum 8 positive compliments & what is it? No bugs & bees were everywhere. Folks couldn't believe the break down was so simple-packed up & rolled out to my car@@adventuresofjandk
These are very well made shelters. Well worth the money.
Agree
I use 10-inch bolts with 3-inch washers instead of pegs. I always have the drill with me anyway so it’s a quick easy job.
Great video. Just bought one and am excited to use it next summer. Thank you!
You will love it. Great well made product.
Very nice. Looks like a quality shelter. Thx for showing it. Hope all is well for you guys.
Thank you. We are doing good. Hope the same for you. Got some crazy fires going on here in Oregon right now so won't be doing any camping anytime soon. :(. Just hope everyone is safe out there.
The clam is great...we put an oscillating fan in ours when no breeze...great
Awesome idea.
Great review! There is so much space and very easy setup and take down. That makes it worth the money to me :) Nice call on the walls with the windows!
Thank you. We have been super happy with it thus far.
Pay attention to the color. The brown clams have the rain flaps...definitely a nice shelter. Only downside is due to the noseeum screens, these are too hot in the summertime. Definitely fall or spring shelters. Very easy to setup and tear down.
Great response. Thank you Greg. We live in the NW so hopefully will be perfect for our situation.
Hi, is it raining proof, or do you need a drop cloth on top?
We’ve had it out in the pouring rain in the NW with zero issue. You would definitely need the window covers though
I’m thinking of getting this for our beach trip! Think it’d still work there too??
Definitely. We use it at the beach all the time.
This looks and sounds like South Beach, Oregon, to me. Thanks for the review! We are going to get one!
You are exactly right. 😂
Hope you enjoy. If you have any questions whatsoever don't hesitate to ask. Kim and I love this shelter so far and would highly recommend it.
Did you record when it was so windy. Did you had to put any extra support?
@@alejandra121290ify great question. That day was not terrible it it was windy. Filmed on the Oregon Coast. We have had it out in 30mph winds and only the top came down once. Just had to easily push it up. We absolutely love it.
We have this in the UK by Quest. It’s actually the same, just a different colour, green. I have the the 6 pro, which has the outside rain covers attatched.
Interesting. I think I would like green.
Great review. Thank you for the demo too.
I think I would want this because of being able to use it as a tent if I purchased the walls and use a tarp on the ground for the floor. This screen house looks as good as some tents of similar design.
Best regards.
Thank you. We couldn’t be happier with it ourselves. Works perfect for what we needed it for. Appreciate you watching and commenting.
This tent is awesome, the only issue i have had onna really windy day, the top collapses, other than that awesome quality
😂. Great point. Happened to us as well. Luckily just once and the wind was blowing hard. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thanks. I was wondering how it does in the windy. How about rain? Guess it would probably collapse too if it rains hard.
@@ctll626 overall rock solid tent I live very high windy area and it happened twice in few years
Thank you guys I am buying one of them
We love ours. Going to be using it again here next week. Been over 3 years and still zero issues.
This is awesome! I need one of those tents
You must have been bored. 😂😂😂👍

Our pleasure Diane.
Its been on my buy list for a while.better get buying it..lol
😂. You won’t be disappointed. We love it.
Hi there, just watched your review. I own 2 of these & got them in 2019. Happened on it at a Bed bath & beyond store & was wondering what it was. Paid under $100 for 2 Clam Escape model (used extra 20% off coupon) in the brown & tan. Just ordered the side panels from another store, BBB didn't have brown panels & save $$, got them also for under $100 for a total of 12 panels. Enjoy your Escape.
Nice. Bed Bath & Beyond is the best according to Kim. 😂
We just got one and love it. Warning: follow the directions for setup and tear down. You can easily get these inside out and fixing it is a nightmare.
Great point.
That's very nice thank you!
Thank you Jim.
So easy to set up and take down.
Yes it is
These popup clam tents work brilliant for spacious showers to
Ya like that idea. Bet it works great.
@@adventuresofjandk oh absolutely! When Me, my wife and our 5 year old Son go camping, we use two of these clam tents, one for eating food, one for showering!
We use a 6L Joolca Hottap V2 system (with a few tweaks and hacks for better water pressure and longer battery life) for our shower and water heating as it's a shower and a water heater in one system 😁
Using this shower/water system with one of these clam tents is amazing if you know how to set the unit up with the clam tent properly.
@@Morsmalleo wow that is quite the set up.
Is there a rain fly for the door? If not, what do you do for rain on the zipper door?
Hi Julie. Thanks for the question. If it is raining sideways we just add a panel like the others and unhook. Not too much trouble at all. The mesh is so tight that normal rain doesn’t cause us any issue. Hope that helps.
JK’s Adventures So you use one of the panels in front of the door? Did you attach it too the top with sewn on velcro? Or is there a flap at the doorway on this model? I watched a video on the Venture with 5 sides and the zipper doorway did not have any flap for rain and the person doing the video put another panel on the door area but she had no way of attaching it too the top and the rain was coming in. That is the reason for my questions. There are just two of us and we would like something smaller but we still want it to keep out the rain. I know that you can buy rain flys for the Escape and Pavilion Models that go on the top to make them more water proof.
Hi Julie. Sorry for the delay. It does have a rain guard like the other sides as well so no rain can get in from the top.
September 2022
I just got the 11.5 x 11.5 brown with 6 wind panels for $385 from Target
That’s a great deal.
Great video…we’re getting one. Thank you! Peace and Blessings
Much appreciated
What is the length of the bag with shelter inside?
Don’t know the exact dimensions but if I had to guess probably 4 - 5ft. Fits in our 8 ft truck bed with a lot of room to spare
Do you have the 11.5 x 11.5 or 12.5 x 12.5? GREAT VIDEO AND THANKS 😊
Ours is the 11.5.
Excellent! What is the length of the completely packaged up carrying case? Trying to figure out where in our RV it would fit. Thanks!
The one we have which is the largest I believe is about 6 1/2 ft. Fits perfect in our truck bed but just barely.
@@adventuresofjandk Thanks to you both. My girlfriend and I love this product and will be getting the same size. This comes just after our standard 10 x 10 canopy blew away and broke last weekend. (Someone thought that filling up the sand bags only halfway was sufficient in high winds). HINT: It wasn’t me... ehemmmm...
@@eliotmitchell916 good to hear. We think you will love it
Really appreciate you putting this together for us! Thank you for doing all the hard work on research! Blessings!!
It was our pleasure. Thank you for the kind words. Means a lot.
Thanks much! Looks like zipper screen doors. Wondering if you know if come with magnetic door?
Our pleasure. The main door is a zipper. Windows are clips and Velcro. Not sure about any magnetic but so doubt it.
Nice 😊 love you guys
Hey we love you too! 😂
Great video! Thank you. The prices are starting to drop in some places. I just purchased the same Clam with six panels for $365.35 from Gander RV & Outdoors. I look forward to using it for our next camping trip. How’s the rain proofing? There’s a rain fly option too.
That is great to hear.
I didn't see you guys take the stakes out did I miss it?
Hi Alexis. Sorry I am not sure if we showed that or not. It is a simple process very similar to staking a tent. There are 8 stakes I believe. Thank you for watching
This was a well done video. Thanks for uploading it.
Thank you so much for the kind words. It was our pleasure.
Can you take down and store it with the walls on?
I don’t believe so. They install in less than a couple minutes though.
They sell one with all the walls attached, cost and weight a bit higher. You have to deal with all the walls, every time, either rolling them up or down; when setting up, finding the pull straps through the side takes a minute or two longer. We rarely have them all down, but don’t have to find and attach each one either (and can’t lose them). We love it. We find we need to stake out a panel or two into the wind, or those panels can pop in ( just push them back out, it does not collapse. We tied a cord to the center top, to hang a light; we also use it to pull the center down when taking it down (I am 5’11” and can’t reach it). We highly recommend it, great quality!
Nice! Cheers from Houston!
Thank you Omen. Much appreciated.
Hi,
I know your review is about 3 years old but I have two questions. Does it keep the rain out? And is a zippered in floor an option? Thank you.
Definitely keeps rain out. We’ve had it out in downpours here in the NW. as far as a zipper floor I’m not sure. Never heard of it being an option but didn’t look into it.
Great video but unfortunately I’m just not strong enough to ‘pop’ out the walls. Love the concept though. Had no idea when purchasing
Sorry to hear that and that we didn’t mention it in the video. I can see how it could be hard for some. Wish they had an easier option.
Great review of claimshell. Looks easy setup and great mosquito protection. What park are you aT? We are headed to Fort Stevens on Oct 6. Happy trailering!
Hi Gary. Thanks. We were at South Beach just south of Newport
Great video
Thank you Stephen. We really appreciate that.
Were you guys camping in Newport and the clamp withstood the wind? I am in or. and i haven't taken it to the beach yet, but i will now!!! thanks for posting.
Yes we have taking to the coast on multiple occasions and no issue with the wind yet. We had a couple pretty strong days of wind as well. It uses quite a few stakes so it stays pretty secure.
Thanks so much for the great video review. I ordered this last night after watching your video. We just bought our first pop up camper and this will go great on our trips. We do live in TX, so the heat is a concern, but we'll do the majority of our TX camping in the fall/winter/spring and head to cooler climates in the summer. :) I'm going to order the panels from tractor supply...cheaper than amazon. How waterproof is it? Does it hold up well in heavy rain? Thanks again!!!
Hi Elizabeth. Oh it’s definitely waterproof. Kim uses it outside all the time and it rains just about about every day here in Oregon. Hope you enjoy it. It will definitely be warm but like you mention as long as you don’t use it I’m really warm weather it should be okay. Plus your Texans a little heat won’t kill you. 😂
Did you find it too hot once it reached a certain temp outside?
Ya it’s pretty warm in the summer heat but perfect other times of the year
Can you dismantle it WITH the wind panels left on?
I am not 100% sure about that. We will be using it this week on a trip. I will test it to find out. My gut says no but I will verify. Appreciate you watching and commenting
@@adventuresofjandk were u able to collapse it with the walls up? And what is the purpose of the walls?
@@NXT_Nena Hi Nena. It is not recommended that you collapse with the walls attached but appears it can be done. We would be afraid of wear over time. In regards to why you would want them. Privacy, wind, rain. Here in the nw we get a lot of rain and wind so we need the protection if we want to use it year round.
Yes u can
After you've had this for some time, how has it held up? For example, does it get hot while in direct sun? What are the highest wind speed that the Clam has been able to handle?
Thanks for the vid. It made me realize if I do get one, go big! 👍
It definitely gets hot in the sun. We live in Oregon so we got it for cold and rain protection. For that it’s perfect. We have had sustained 25mph gusts with no issue. If it does close down it’s super simple to pop back up. We love it but would never buy one if we lived somewhere warm.
@@adventuresofjandk Thanks for the speedy reply. Arizona is my winter destination. Plus desert winds can be high.
Great informative video!
@@roamingfree6968 thank you. Glad you found it helpful.
Cool shirt
Thx
Great video! Thanks!
Do you ever worry about it getting stolen? And have you ever secured it in some way, like with a cable to prevent theft?
Hi there. No concerns at all with theft. It would take some time to remove the stakes and were we camp there are always people out and about. I guess if someone were desperate they could take it at night but we don’t worry about it.
Do you have any issues with it being hot? With the tight weave, do you still get air flow? Have you compared it to the Gazelle?
Great question. It definitely gets hot. We live in the NW so use it every season other than summer. Airflow is an issue but we use it when it’s raining or areas with most of bugs so it works perfect for that. If live somewhere really warm I would suggest another option. I have not compared it with the Gazelle.
@@adventuresofjandk thanks. I appreciate your shared experience. Ideally I would like this design with more airflow. I'm in California so it'll be used more like a sun shade and fly barrier.
Nice campground, nene wbd location ????
Thank you Don. That was South Beach State Park on the Oregon Coast.
Great video. I bought one myself that showed up today. What are those side non screen panels called. I want to buy those as well
I am not 100% sure. If you take a look at their website I am sure you can find them there.
Wonderful video...just bought one! My only concern is whether it's necessary to set up AND THEN move the picnic table inside...would it be possible to set up and then move on top of the table? (We're worried about the weight of some of these steel-frame picnic tables)
Good question. I not 100% sure on that. Might have to try it next time.
We don’t try to move those heavy tables. We set up the Clam and together we lift the Clam up and over the table. Super easy.
@@susansalvucci4281 ah very good idea.
Hey I just bought one. How do you think it will work for youth football games as I’ll be there from 8am until around 4pm? Is it good with blocking out the sun?
Hi Malcolm. What will the weather be like? It will definitely block out sun but it also holds in heat. We use it in the NW where it’s pretty cold most of the time so it’s perfect for us.
@@adventuresofjandk I’m in Florida so it’s definitely gonna be sun shining. Usually on Saturdays during this time of year it’s in the 90s. I set it up today and I was able to do it in maybe 2 minutes thanks to your video. But I worry about trapping the heat and thinking about returning it and just going with a conventional tent for sporting events.
Ya I don’t blame you. Seems it would be way to hot for anywhere in the South.
I'm confused. I thought the large version came with the wind screens built in? Or is that just the Pavillion? And if so, what is yours called?
Ours is called Quickset. We had to buy the wind screens separately.
This one is the quickset escape which is slightly smaller than the pavillion. You are correct, the pavillion is the one with the panels built into the structure. The pavillion is slightly larger at 12'6" wall to wall while the one in the video (escape) is roughly 11'6" wall to wall.
One more thing to consider if you are getting the escape, only the brown/tan version has a rain flap that extends down over the panels, the other colors are missing this flap and will allow rain behind the panels. Basically if you look above the mesh windows and you see the velcro attachment points the flap is missing.....if you can't see the velcro the flap is there and covering it and will overlap the panels when installed.
Edit: it looks like some of the other colors now have the rain flap, make sure to do the research so the one you are getting does include it as old stock could change that.
@@Brett_S Thanks for posting this! Great info!
How’s this holding up?
We love it. Not a single issue with it. One of the better products we’ve bought. Kim used it all the time when working remote and just continues to perform.
@@adventuresofjandk how is it for shade? Does it block UV good?
@@JRperez-tw8xn Grest question. Definitely helps with shade and UV but it gets warm. Wouldn’t recommend for a hot area of the Country. We live in the NW so it’s perfect for us.
Love mine but they need magnets on the door not a zipper
Ya that would be awesome
Can’t get it to open out. I think I twisted it up!
So frustrated! Gave up for the day
Sorry to hear that Bonnie. I have never had an issue with it. Always been super easy. Hopefully you can get it set up soon.
How come when we look up this model it shows about $545 but you mention you paid about $313?
I figured it out. I was looking at a much bigger model
Hard to say. This video was made awhile ago so it wouldn’t surprise me that’s it gone up with inflation.
I bought an overhead USB rechargeable fan that I think will work great for airflow in it.
Gotcha
Inflation
Very similar to Gazelle tents.
Yes they are. We saw a few while camping. They both seem very popular.
It's a year later how is it holding up
Zero issues.
New Sub, thanks for sharing guys! I am still trying to decide tiny like the traveler or to bump up to the venture or escape... Bill :)
Thank you. We went bigger just because we were going to work out of it. It definitely has a lot of room but with that also takes up a good amount of space.
So I’ve read some reviews and they say that it gets really hot in there cause of the mesh. What has your experience been like with the heat inside?
Hi Joe. I would agree with those reviews. If you live in a warm climate I would not advise this shelter. We live in the NW were it is cold and rainy a good portion of the year so it’s perfect for us. If I lived in the South or somewhere warm I would find an alternative. Hope that helps.
@@adventuresofjandk we live in Michigan so it’s just about everything at any given time lol, but we mostly go camping in the summer months July aug time and some nights can get a bit chilly but during the day it can get pretty hot. How much of a temp difference would you say?
