We discovered the Cryptobia iubilans strain, contained in granulomas in the stomach lining of my discus fish. I lost $60 000 to this disease and we had to disinfect 140 tanks. Shocking, the power of these organisms. You deserve so many more subscribers.

I'm genuinely amazed at how you capture such high-quality videos. I'm what people call a science enthusiast, and I especially adore learning about the microcosmos. RIght now, I'm currently self-studying amateur microbiology, and I coincidingly love the parasitology part. Anyway, what type of microscope do you use to capture microscopic observations? I use a Stellar 1 Pro-B. For an approximately $500 microscope, it comes with plan infinity objectives. I appreciate your content, please keep up the good work.

Thank you for your kind words! We actually use a camera that is mounted on the microscope (so not a part of the microscope itself) to capture high-quality footage.

What a fantastic video. Thank you so much. I bought a microscope recently and just have 2 questions. Do you use any stains for your positive and negative gram bacteria and what stains do you use? Or do you use the immersion oils?

In these videos we only use 100-400x magnifications of the microscope, using wet samples, with live parasites and bacteria. With these magnifications, you should be able to spot most of them. To work with stains, you would have to use 1000x magnification and special oils, which is something we rarely do.

The poor fish you got these samples from!

Luckily we can save most of them! All of the fish we treat stay here as long as they need to (most of the time) fully recover 😁
