This is a video on how to perform a factory restore on a Dell Inspiron Laptop running Windows 7.

Sept 2023: This worked!!!!!! I had an old Dell Windows 7 laptop that I needed to factory restore before I donated it. However, I did NOT have any of the original recovery disks, and the Microsoft site no longer supports any Windows 7 downloads. So, I followed your directions and it worked!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!

When I get to the user name and password and hit enter I get user name or password is incorrect. What do I do, it won't let me go to the next screen

If you don't have the restore option under the command prompt option you'll have to do the following:
-Go to Dell website and download Dell OS Recovery Tool
-Enter service tag of computer you wish to restore
-Download the file onto a USB drive
-Enter USB drive into computer you wish to restore then boot from USB (press F12 before Windows loads)
-Follow the prompts in the wizard to perform a clean install of Windows

@@luvzaire2002 What I did what just change the password and you gotta power it off then power it on and in the starting windows hold power to power off for 5 seconds I recommend watching those videos

Mine skips through the Windows is loading files.. and takes me back to the login screen. Nothing is changed.

I need help! for some reason my system recovery options is focusing on local disk D, is it suppose to be focusing on local disk C? I'm on windows 7.

Mines is NOT doing it pressing F8 whatsoever. I have tried numerous times and it still puts me in the main screen asking for my password -_-

Nothing is happening with F8 button. Then starts beeping. I only have a screen with the curser. Any ideas? Laptop was given to me.

Any suggestions on how to do the same on a Dell laptop with WindowsXP would be most welcome. The recovery partition is found in Disk Management but it's a shame Dell hides it so deep for users to restore. Thanks a lot for your video tutorial for this. I almost manually reformat the disk
I was happy that it works until I have to deal with Windows update. The laptop is a 2011 model and it took many hours to update with several error messages. It was a pain. Manually reformat and install a latest version of Windows 10 would be much easier. Cheers

@@HowdyAleck. Consider reinstall a fresh & latest copy of Windows. The recovery took your OS back to 10-15yrs ago and Windows Update could be a big pain to deal with

One more thing if you are in a window where the “launch repair mode” and “Start window normally” something like that just select the launch repair mode and you’ll be redirected to the blue screen window and just wait for a couple of minutes until those option like on the video that pops up. I hope you fix yours too

Huh, didn't work for me. At the step at 2:34 it keeps asking for an administrator password. Got the laptop used, with no way to get the password. Is there a step to get around this? EDIT: Ok, It took some tries but I used the Win 7 password reset trick, though even that didn't work normally, had to use safe mode with command prompt to get it to work....whoever had this laptop before me REALLY didn't want anyone getting in and apparently knew all the hacks and how to stop them. Yeesh. Oh well, it was practically free so worth the hoops. Thanks for this
