In this video we discuss whether the “hood” has to love you or if you need street credibility to be in the GOAT conversation. And at the end, Page has some words for Lord Jamar.

If we talking about street cred then Biggie and Nas can’t be GOATS!!
Biggie rhymed about a 2 Bedroom shack, and his mum came out at his height of fame to debunk that. Big was the rich kid who had street friends...
Nas is well known to not have lived that life just documented it, same can be said about Cube. But they are GOATS... also let’s not let hood niggaz speak for the rest of us...they ain’t the brightest bunch and their life/ world is round the corner, down the street, where the drug dealers and prostitutes meet (that’s a Jay lyric) anyway what I’m saying is their world is small and simple mnded, and if a rapper ain’t rapping that bang bang shoot em up shit, these simpletons can’t relate....SMH....also if Em came out rapping that gangster shit...he would be just another rapper that would have ahead a 2-3 buzz....
    Anyway so called
Hood niggaz don’t speak for me!!
Anyone who is willing to sell poison to their own people, shoot their own people but run from the police?? Ain’t gangster to me....STOP IT......

Not only that, Em always respected hip hop culture. He never made it a "black" or "white" thing. In rap, you're either dope, or you're not.
If you're dope, people will be rocking you 20, 25, and 30 years later (Rakim, Nas, Jay, NWA) even if you're dead (Biggie, Tupac).
Though I disagree with Lord Jamar, I don't fault him (though he even admitted Em is a dope lyricist). But he needs to understand that Em is in hip hop's DNA now, because that's how many albums and years he's been in the game. In fact, Em never has to respond to a critic again--never has to battle.

@Crusher Corps Also, its' not a matter of being "afraid". Jamar is on Vlad's platform, spewing disrespect which reaches a lot of people. Em is an emcee, emcees battle. Most traditional emcees in Em's position would want to respond, regardless of the fact that Jamar posses no real threat, it's a respect thing.
Other Examples: Canibus went at LL Cool J in the 90s, when LL was on top, and Canibus was a nobody, LL still responded.
Common was still underground when he dissed the West Coast, Ice Cube (a super star) could've ignored it but took it personal and responded to it. Point is famous rappers still battle lesser known ones, because emcees have pride.

The thing about being a "guest" in the house of hip hop, a guest by definition is a non contributing visitor. Eminem has put more eyes, earned more money, and spans more decades on top than any black rapper out there. And if Eminem is a "guest" does would that make Tiger Woods a guest in the house of golf? Obama or any other black leader a guest to the United states government? There's no such thing as a guest. If that's the case then you are taking a s*** on Martin Luther Kings speech "I have a dream" ... Equality I believe was the main idea. If Eminem is not counted as equal it's cuz he is counted as better.. and if you can't count him as equal than it is because of racism by the black man, not by the white man this time. Anyway ....if you think of battle rap and hip hop like the rankings of a heavyweight division, Eminem has gone thru more top people and remains undisputed champ.

    • @frostnova3632

If it was a battle of the songs rap devil did seem a lot more like an actual song and I enjoyed it I won't lie, but listening to the stuff em said made me putter back and get that stink face like damn he really said that and that's why I believe he won.

There's one thing that everyone seem to be forgetting with Em. See as far as I understood the hip-hop Em belongs to did rise out of black communities, where people gathered in areas and evolved from people who started speaking their minds in Cyphers which eventually led to freestyles and rap battle events at venues, everyone showing their skills and lyrics and Em was involved heavily in all of that before he got signed. There's a difference, I think, between that and gangster rap, like a lot of what NWA, Nas, Biggy and Pac put out and that's what Jamar is getting mixed up with here. I think people from the hood listen to gangster rap, and less of the lyrical stuff like Em, Hopsin, Logic, Cole if you get what I'm saying. So for me it's like you got two schools of hip-hop but it's all hip hop.

In the hood....not really, people were not bumping Eminem. That does not detract from Em's spot in the culture because they bump Gucci and Gucci couldn't beat Em's shadow in a rap battle. Plenty of dope rappers aren't hood or street credible. Even some of the ones you think are. The conversation is never about Eminem's ability because that's untouchable. He got bars, he got hits, he got longevity, he got impact he got battle skills.....the fact that rap originated in the hood has little to do with the streets. How street was the Sugar Hill Gang? Run-DMC?
So Eminem is hip-hop. Point blank period end the sentence. Lord Jamar did all this talking but didn't hop in the booth. That's not hip-hop at all, and admittedly a black Eminem wouldn't have sold as much but he would still would have been a respected lyricist.

    • @micahatkins5286
      @micahatkins5286 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Good try. Lord Jamar doesn’t have to jump in the booth to speak on Hip Hop and the effects that Eminem’s Pop fan base has in rap music. In fact, Eminem & many of his invested rap loyalists should never mention how or when someone should honor raps traditional methods, as much as they bypass them. Listen to the real problem Jamar is speaking to & remember that Eminem’s fan base is the true problem. In fact, it could be another rapper entirely. Do pop fans deserve say when it comes to Hip Hops debate on GOAT rapper? Hip Hop is just one of many musical art forms to come from the 12%. All narratives had this same pattern to somehow “circumvent” the communities they originated from. Today they still fight racism, so let’s not act as if this is about appreciation and not popularity. Personally, I hold Eminem responsible for not understanding past history’s point in the back & forth. Or maybe he does. Either way, he should be educating his disrespectful fans & supporters that ..”Yes, Pop culture can, has, will, and is a threat to rap music and it begins through marginalizing the people who give it life.” There are numerous other white rappers who far exceed Eminem in voicing these things, so that alone carries weight in legacy. GOAT wouldn’t still be more concerned over his own insecurities and pretending as if he doesn’t know that rap is still tied to race ......especially in America

Now in January 2020 when Em dropped an album in the middle of the night and it's gotten more listens and reactions than anything I've ever seen AND there was ZERO public hyping of it. He can drop a song during an apocalypse and people would be listening to it in MORSE code.
He fucking rekt Jamar in Music To Be Murdered By.
I never heard of Jamar until now. I knew of Brand Nubian growing up, but have/had no idea who the individuals were in the group and don't remember any of their music. I'd say the majority of people are that way.
It seems like Jamar is just jealous and trying to get views for money like MGK, and Cannon, among others and ride that for as much money as they can off of Em's success.
There are some great lyricists out there, but Em is THE top dog, hands down in that category. His double, triple, quadruple entendre plus wordplay layered on top of that is undeniable and unbeatable except for him one-upping himself.
If I was a writer I could easily write books about Em's lyrics by themselves.

All nationalities listen to eminem, he is a hip hop artist. Has sold the most records, had the most hit songs, has taken on and beat a lot of other good artists. All you idiots that think you are only the best hip hop artist only of he is black is fucking stupid. If there was a black country artist that made the most hits, had the most albums sold, had respect from his peers. He would be the best nobody would say well since white people started country music no other colors can be the best at it ? That is a fucking stupid argument, and you are stupid af to even be sharing that with people. There have been A lot of black people in all kinds of genres of music and nobody says oh that person is a guest in the house of that genre. Stop being so closed minded and pick better arguments. You have to show me valid points as to why em is a guest. Not just because he is white, get the fuck outta here with that shit man.

It's not a matter of "growing up." Rap is meant to be a documentation of one's life. If you have a problem with hood rap, you have a problem with Hip Hop itself. Can't love the tree and hate the roots. If your surroundings are the hood, then to talk about anything other than that displays a lack of sincerity.
