I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis 20 years ago. Back then in 2000, I saw Gary Null on PBS tv, I bought his book the next day. He recommended juicing and vegan diet for 6 months to clean out your colon and gut. I made it 4 months. I felt 50% better in a week. After that I went to acupuncture for 6 months. That helped too. Now I can pretty much regulate it with diet, I was also taking probiotics and digestive enzymes for about 2 years. I’m walking almost every day for an hour, I could barely walk to the bathroom, my ankles and hands were swollen and purple, it was hurting so bad, I don’t take any medication, I was on methotrexate and steroid.

I've been diagnosed with RA , lupus and fibromyalgia and was so sick with so much pain on 28 pills a day. I felt like a zombie for years UNTIL I took my health into my own hands. I've not taken one single medication for a year. I eat as organic as I possibly can and take kratom for pain relief. It works better than any pain meds I've ever taken! If I eat something that's bad for my body it tells me immediately and the pain lasts for day's. If we honor our bodies and only put great fuel into them we will feel the difference!

@@undisputedfxchamp4003 I'm doing well thank you for asking! I did however have a horrible fungal infection in my toe that went into my foot bone last year that caused some chaos in my life for a few months until I found an amazing new Dr. I hadn't seen a Dr in 5 years prior! He suggested a quality probiotic/prebiotic and hydroxicloroquine for the horrible flair up I was having rather than the normal steroids that make me so sick. After being on hydroxicloroquine for about 4 months now and feeling even better each day! Still eating well and when I "cheat" and eat something silly I, I've only cheated myself because I'll pay dearly. Our food these days has become full of toxic chemicals and lupus helps discern between the toxic and non-toxic so perhaps a blessing in disguise? Have a wonderful day 😊

@@mohdnajib294 I never saw your question until today and I'm so sorry it's taken 2 years to respond! I used powder kratom for awhile but started getting pain in my stomach I'm thinking due to the amount of powder you'd have to consume? It works fantastic for acute pain like a broken bone that will heal. After a few months it looses effectiveness so I didn't find it to work for chronic pain unfortunately. A good quality CBD oil is a much better option in my opinion. Hope your doing well 💗

Same. Magnesium is so amazing! Also, potassium is often depleted in people with autoimmune disease (especially if it's rooted in stress/anxiety). Stress depletes magnesium and potassium.
I started adding 2-3 salads per day to my diet and a potassium supplement and my 12-year heart palpitations that no doctor or cardiologist could explain are finally under control.
I agree we need more doctors who use this approach.

Hi Doctor. I have been on the Autoimmune Paleo diet for my Hashimoto’s for four months. I’ve also been doing keto and I’ve lost 50 pounds. My diet/lifestyle consists of no grains, dairy, sugar, eggs, nightshades, legumes, coffee, or alcohol. Once my inflammation is gone I can add back some foods but I know I can never have gluten. I feel much better. I still have inflammation due to a neck injury but I’ve been seeking help for that. I wish we had a good doctor like you in our town.

By the way I have recently added back some foods but learned I am allergic to eggs and dairy. The AIP diet is very useful for eliminating food intolerances. I think an elimination diet would be useful for many people, not just those of us who have autoimmune disorders. You may not have a full on allergy but if you pay attention to your body, you may notice a little stuffiness or slight headache or maybe some gut issues. This is your body telling you to not eat that stuff! I believe that grains are the number one culprit.

I’ve learned that I personally can not tolerate most dairy. I can eat some grass fed hard cheese occasionally. Other than that I get severe gut issues. I also don’t tolerate eggs - migraines and more gut issues. I don’t eat any gluten/grains either. So it’s an experimental process. Everyone should work out what works and doesn’t work for them.

Thank you for this video. I have an autoimmune disease (connectivite) and after changing my diet (almost no gluten, no dairy, less meat, more vegetables and fruits, all bio, all home prepared + vit.D) I have almost forgotten my disease. I precise that I needed a lot of motivation because it was tough the first 3 months and moreover because neither doctors nor my husband helped me in this process + "Unfortunatly" I live in France where gastronomie is amazing and I love going to restaurant with friends to enjoy it, so I can't easily respect this diet when I am out and some symptomes come back sometimes. Anyway, it is amazing how food and lifestyle can be more effective than medication!

The gastronomy in France is very bad, that’s the problem. Lots of sugar, gluten, dairy and processed food everywhere. It creates lots oh health issues among the population. Good gastronomy is not about tastes it is essentially about health.
Maybe you can change your mind to be one with your health goal.
If you visit a “boulangerie” (Backery in french), there is almost nothing good for the health inside!!! Sugar, gluten, dairy, that’s the base.
It is hard to accept but eating baguettes (french white bread) everyday won’t do good for your body.
Lots of processed food in the supermarket.
And additionally, alcohol is like a religion for many people.
I understand that it is hard to change the diet when you are used to eat so.
      Good luck for tour change.
      You can do it.
You just need to change deeply the fondamental understanding of what is good and bad for your health.
Eliminating the inflammations is the key for a great health.
Unfortunately the french gastronomy is very bad for that.

Then went onto Taltz, total fail, then went onto Cosyntex and was AWESOME for 3 years due to no alcohol, processed foods, everything listed below and etc. The inflamation from all that surrounds us is what opens us all up to autoimmune. GOD BLESS EVERYONE!

    3. Weekly 3-5 hours of exercise
    4. Intermittent fasting ( Don't eat if you're not hungry and DON'T SNACK!)...ACHIEVE AUTOPHAGY!!!

I have lupus and autoimmune hemolytic anemia. I was on prednisone, plaquenil and cellcept. All horrible prescriptions that I felt was ruining my health even more. I stopped them all. I just read "the 10 steps to reverse autoimmune disease" and I have been doing what is suggested just by chance and trial and error after dealing with my health issues for over 10 years. I am on the ketogenic diet and take many supplements like turmeric, calcium, magnesium, potassium, probiotics, collagen, chlorella, spirulina, b-vitamins, omega fish oil and many more. Dr. Axe had a list of supplements to take for Lupus that I followed. I also consume MCT oil and coconut oil on a daily basis. It has all been helping a lot...especially the ketogenic diet, but you need to pay close attention to taking in enough electrolytes if you have an autoimmune problem if you try the keto diet.
If you follow the plan outlined in the 10-steps, it will help a lot. The ketogenic diet follows similar guidelines about cutting out sugar, grains (carbs) and gluten. It is a high fat (good fats), moderate protein, very low carb eating plan. It is worth a try. I feel so much better and I am on no prescription medication.

That's why I stopped listening to most of these natural docs that push mostly supplements in order to get better. If it's not food or a natural herb I'm over it.

I discovered I had breast cancer in 2016, two months before this I started a raw wholefood plant diet. No sugar, oil, processed, dairy, gluten or artificial flavors. My surgery and recovery was wonderful, I was teaching the nurses that attended to me all the things I had learned. After 5 months I started to develop a lethargic, no motivation feeling. I did some research and started drinking bone broth once a day, I started feeling a little better. After another month went by my stomach started swelling and I developed a constant pain in my right side, from the bottom of my ribs to my groin area. I stayed on my diet for 2 yrs..but constant pain and depression I said I'm done..so I started eating the American diet...btw my health results beat my holistic councilors...three major hospitals have said they can't help me..one Dr said he could try an operation but it was 50-50 death..

I was diagnosed with Lupus three years ago. I had a poor diet for 12 years of my life, and plus had been really stressed out and had severe depression because of my academics. For the first two years, I was on high doses of medicines like HCQS and Prendisone, and they really messed me up. Sure, the pain and inflammation was gone, but I rampantly started losing hair, had white patches popping up all over my skin, I couldn't go out in the sun without sunscreen lotion anymore because it would trigger the arthralgia, I wasn't allowed to eat food with baking soda or milk, which didn't help as my appetite would increase and decrease drastically causing abnormal fluctuations in my weight, and these are just the physical aspects of it. But then since the beginning of 2020, I shifted to a more spiritually fulfilling lifestyle. I am trying to do yoga regularly, along with meditation. And it really helps. I make it a point to eat raw greens whenever possible. Food and lifestyle really make an impact on how we cure diseases, and I think it's high time allopathic medicine start treating the root cause instead of the symptoms.

Sounds silly but a parasitic cleanse can solve a lot of issues for people. If you don’t do regular cleanses and you own pets there’s a good chance you have parasites and don’t even know it. A six week parasitic cleanse literally changed my life, removed debilitating back and hip pain and honestly made me feel 15 years younger. Strangely enough, it seems like the more simple carbs and refined grains I eat, my condition is more quiet. Starting to wonder if there are some triggers elsewhere. I’m 31lbs lighter and 4 dress sizes smaller now (Dec 23). I have no joint pain, I haven’t had an RA ‘slump’, in fact, I haven’t had a day off work at all. And no new nodules. We’ve all been lied to, that genetics caused our inflammatory disease, but no blood relation in my family had RA, so it’s something I was doing that was causing it. Looking back, the things I’ve cut out were probably causing the RA.
One downside is that I can’t eat & drink the ‘bad’ stuff anymore - that makes me physically ill. Which shows me everything that’s wrong with it.

Besides the mechanical and physical part, there are some psychological implications in the activation of autoimmune diseases. I read the book of J King - Bits & Pieces You Might've Missed About Your Autoimmune Condition and I found myself completely in it. Is as the autoimmune flaring is at its deepest source from the person being turned against oneself, as the way then the immune system turns against own body. It explains the thinking patterns producing this, it's very clear the book and shows the step-by-step way to resolve those, which are the cause. And in the process, of course, diet and exercise and fasting and Dr Berg solutions are helping, but you always resolve it for good if you address the cause, and not only the effects. There are studies supporting this stuff and the book mentions them. So the psychological part, depression, anxiety, etc is not only in the effects of autoimmune diseases but at its cause. It's more complex the wide-named depression and anxiety, it's more specific, and the book shows it both deep and simple to follow, better than I can say. Anyway, helped me greatly. Highly recommended! I think the whole autoimmune world should know about it. Bless!

@@E10l that’s correct but AIP is also used as a stimulant for healing process which removes all the potentially pro-inflammatory foods so the inflammation that was caused by suspected irritant can heal quicker.
the time of recovery is going to have significant differences between individuals and reintroduction phase could subsequently be effected. It could be two month or one year or more.
For example in the case of coeliac or celiac, the potential trigger is the gluten, but if there is severe damage to the villi, all the other irritants could contribute to slower recovery of the gut, so they are removed to promote gut health as well as higher possibility of a secondary allergy.

I would say stress is a definite trigger for autoimmune diseases though not a causer itself. Autoimmune can be cured by only change of whole lifestyle and diet pattern. However, I may add here that diary is not a problem. It's the processed food (including preservatives) which is a problem. And diary is highly processed before it is in supermarket. Unfortunately, in today's world 100% natural food is a scarcity. Even organic stuff means relatively less preservatives.

Hi Dr. Hyman, I sit here almost in tears , frustrated,, My 15 year old have a life saving surgery in October after she had been diagnosed with crohns 2 days earlier.. she has an ileostomy.. hoping to get reversed .. it was supposed to be 2 to 6 months they said,, now they say it will go longer mre showed still some inflammation, she is trying to catch up on her school work as she missed school last week because she was in the hospital Sunday through thursday.. She is doing infusions monthly,, and they fall just after her period.. For some reason the past 2 months her period cramps are really hard for her,, the past month just as she was starting her period she had 3 raw carrots. I thought that she was supposed to stay away from raw vegtables while having an ostomy,, it seemed this was the case as the next day the output slowed and her intestine looked bigger .. she said usually it was smaller and more danty. Several hours later she sat on the toilet, then started throwing up,, it just kept coming,, I rushed her to ER, and they admitted her into hospital did ng tube, then gave contrast to try and help dissolve what my have given blockage which showed on xray,, later they did ct scan and it showed it clear,, she was then having output in her bag. I asked if they could move up infusion as it was going to be a few days later, now we were back on skd,, at around 4 1/2 weeks. Her sister I am taking to the dr. tomorrow,, her sister is 13 showing possible psorasis or excema on her forhead, and upper part of her head.. I'm trying to figure out what's going on with my little girls.. they had HPV vaccination May 5 2021 was first shot I think for my oldest then March 2022 I think was the next shot. Her sister got her first March 2022 got weird hives in May 2022.. My oldest had cramps after her first vaccnation maybe a month or so after,, and she thought maybe they were period cramps.. then of course there is covid, neither ever showed signs of sickness, but their dad and I were sick twice with it,, we never noticed anything with our kids,, just a runny nose... we did not have covid vaccination.. WHY did kids not show any affects where was that nasty virus in them,, I'm thinking it could have contributed to all this, then with hpv vaccination,, their immune systems is extreme... what can I do to calm it,, and oldest has a rage/anger issue,,, poor thing has been through really hard times though. Also what are basic things I can feed my kids, and should I go buy vitamin D ? and if I get yogurt or some kind of probiotics what do I look for.

Hi Dr Hyman! Thanks for the encouraging video. I’m currently doing tests to figure out if I have an autoimmune disease. I get travelling rashes all along my body, joint pain and inflammation in all my joints, and stomach pain with bloating all the time. I’m often tired, and also get muscle weakness in my arms after doing small tasks. I’m so tired of being in pain and discomfort all the time -so will attempt changing some things in my diet (although I already eat fairly healthy).
Do you happen to have any other advice for someone like me who’s starting down the process of diagnosis?

I have joint pains for decades since last year I made two major changes in my life style . Having less sleep and working more than my body could take , and having long intervals between meals . All these three things were partially responsible for my body pains . I improved them and now I take less pain killers .
