Based on ""Nihon Hankacho"" broadcasted in Fuji Television's ""Jidai Gekijo Special"" slot, this TV series stars Kinya Kitaoji in the lead role. It is an unquestionably enjoyable and entertaining period drama series that offers a refreshing sense of good and evil that can be enjoyed without argument. The series features humorous interactions with the shogunate's superiors, subordinates, and wives (played by such personalities as Eiji Funakoshi and Hisako Manda), a character who uses disguise and witty theatricality to deceive his enemies, while at the same time taking a decisive stand against evil that disturbs the world. The most appealing aspect of this film is the presence of Kinya Kitaoji, the lead actor, who has created a hero who is both bold and humane. Furthermore, there is no end to the highlights of the film, such as the famous and spectacular sights in various regions of Japan where each episode was filmed on location, and the diverse guest cast. The first installment was directed by Mitsumasa Saito, known for his work on ""Sengoku JSDF,"" and was shot on location in Kyushu. The spectacular scenery of Sakurajima in the background and the powerful stand-up combat created new visuals for the period drama.
Serving as ometsuki (the inspector-general) and Kawachi no kami (the governor of Kawachi Province), Asahina (Kitaoji Kinya) is in charge of supervising the feudal lords on behalf of the shogun and the roju (member of shoguns council of elders). Under secret orders from the roju and Sagami no kami (the governor of Sagami Province), Tsuchiya (Funakoshi Eiji), Asahina conceals his identity and infiltrates the area as a ""secret magistrate"" to search for any signs of rebellion among the feudal lords throughout Japan. With his brilliant skills, he crushes the evil that threatens to disrupt the country.
