Some of the nicest, most accomplished, AND humble people are Vietnamese Americans. Growing up Chinese American, it was very cutthroat and competitive amongst the offspring of the more privileged families that it was difficult to be normal or let one's guard down, as the academic pressure was always on.
I met so many Vietnamese refugees from the same generation as Tu through my roommate in college back in the early 90s. I only recently stumbled across Tu on youtube and have been curious to learn more about such a great Asian American role model, who took a less conventional path that was certainly less traveled (i.e. not a doctor or engineer), and succeeded massively at it. In many respects, his life path is one I yearned to take, but was shunted away from the martial arts and the military to focus back on academics and a corporate career. To learn about his true story, including his struggles, makes him very authentic. I am very happy for him to see his story, products, and training embraced by like-minded Americans of all stripes.
I don't follow MMA and generally don't have time to watch TV, but sounds like Cung is onto something. I hope the show has thrived and survived to this day. I feel his pain and struggles in the media, where generally Asian American males are not favored due to battle scars from WW2 and Vietnam. I am glad to hear that he didn't have to sell out by following the well-intended/conventional wisdom of "needing more Caucasians on the show" and ultimately could do the show his way with the help of Tu.
I had done some minimal work in commercial print modeling (certainly not enough to quit my day job), but fortunately my talent agent believes in diversity and has oftentimes convinced advertising clients to be more inclusive for their own sake due to changing times... Much like Bruce Lee, i would turn down offers for any role that was not reflective of the reality of Asian Americans, or if it involved a role that would propagate negative stereotypes or make us look bad in any way. As a result of that screening and generally a lack of availability for jobs coming out of the blue, commercial print has been more of paid hobby. Having been away from he martial arts world for 20 years, I am making a comeback as a middle aged dude and forn concentrating on firearms, which is how I found Tu..

Cung Le in his prime was an elite striker, very good fighter.
Never heard of this dude Tu Lam but if he's Special Forces you know he's legit.

I don’t really like the questions they are asking like they were saying did any of you friends or people you knew who died? Which is not a great thing to ask a veteran

Being a sf soldier is really impressive. tu lam resume is impressive. But do he really (actual)fought the rebels in the philippines speciallly the abu sayaf? Or he only trained the filipino soldiers on fighting terrorist? He claim on some of his interviews that he fight the rebels in the philippines but as far as i know, no foreign soldiers is allowed by the philippine law to fight with them or join them on actual combat unless they are attact. I need proof mr tu.

@Sejerator Better You should look into what Green Berets do and what they train for...alot of their work is unknown to the general public.
