- This scam on Discogs is becoming very common. Lots of sellers with established accounts are getting hacked and people are adding rare items they don’t have and stealing money. Don’t get duped, and be smart. If it’s too good to be true, it might just be.

Discogs has a VERY antiquated login system that does nothing to stop brute-force password attempts on an account. Good to also remind everyone to update your discogs password to something much more random.
Happened to me a couple months ago. Snagged the Pumpkins "Aeroplane" boxset for $150. Seller had 100% feedback with lots of sales. Account was hacked. Took about a month, but got my money back. Super frustrating.
Hi. I am a seller on Discogs and my account got hacked. It messed up everything. I feel really sorry for the people who got scammed and for me, my account and my dignity is destroyed at the moment.
If I may ask, how did you Manage to take your money back?

@@mikrosgialos3541 Sorry to hear that man. I had to contact PayPal and open a claim. Basically had to take screenshots of the transaction and give a detailed account of what happened. It took a while, but they reimbursed me. One of the many reasons it's always a ggod idea to use PayPal.

this isnt the only scam! People are doing this to push the prices down too. I see empty accounts with no reviews do this. Hoping someone who isn’t super savvy will see like frank ocean listed for 250-300, and then list it as such, then they have a bot that will immediately snatch it up. I’m seeing this over and over again with rare records. People are trying to push the prices down, and hoping someone else lists an actual record. I’m sure a lot of people will be like “ Good, I’m sick of resellers, and I want this record but don’t want to pay”, but it’s how it’s always been rare and out of print records have always been pricy. I think a lot of newer collectors don’t realize that for years we had Albums we wanted with no hope of a repress. And if we wanted it we’d have to pay toms
I agree I even traded a CD with a mate named TOM. I also got left a bunch of bad reviews because we had a massive flood at the time & I couldn't get orders out or even pay for Awhile
Thanks for getting the word out. Too good to be true is just that. I've been noticing on Offerup lately a bunch of newer McIntosh gear on a regular basis listed for less than $1k. Not possible!

Thanks for the info. I think Discogs has a big problem. My computer security program has blocked several malicious threats while on Discogs.

Kate Bush! But yeah ... scammers are the WORST! I hate that the internet has allowed these worms to access 2nd hand markets and just take advantage of people.
And have a good password and change it often don’t let your account get hacked
This has been happening led zeppelin turquoise first print for ages now...discogs in fairness has deleted these fake accounts but it takes time.

What if the person has zero feedback? I've been seeing an uptick in this in people trying to sell official repressings of Blond.
The bad thing is that some scammers use hacked accounts and price records like normal but like it's just enough less the appear down when sort at lowest.
Then they will set their country to Ukraine.
There was (or still is) a problem with paypal that it says you can pay with goods and services but it does not work (you get an error) then it will automatically pay as family and friends... watch out for it.

man it happens to me!!! this exact thing!! I paid for items but I did not realize it was going as friends the account was hacked!!! I lost a lot of money due to this error with Paypal!
@@ThedrumMachine78 yeah, Paypal knows about it but like to keep it this way. They earn alot of money this way so they wont stop it.

My lost was (like how they said it) only around 200 dollars... they just don't care and won't take it seriously
Now i know Paypal UK do give people their money back or part of it but Paypal The Netherlands will say no. But i didn't take it to court since this will cost more than you eventually get from it.
@@RubenEditIT This was significally mor than that. Now I did a chargeback on the card and got my money back that way. I also cancelled the direct debit so they are not able to charge it back. ping me please if you want so we can discuss... this Paypal thing is insane.. I was using them for 15 years and never had this issue before. Its crazy how the payment defaulted to friends instead of goods.

I was scammed on Discogs I sent a buyer a mint vinyl they said it wasn't. I said I'd refund. he sent back a damaged copy a a different version
