Probably because he’s been doing for 30 plus years so knows what a what - let’s be honest. Also had a great ear for the melodies along with the driving rhythms etc... he’s not everyone’s cup of tea. If you liked what he played in the early nineties chances are you’ll like what he plays now.
I though the involved albums were pretty insipid. Renaissance vol 1 for me is still the benchmark. This is a great little comp and live etc when he’s on form he’s great. He can also be very ponderous. Overall though a huge influence and he definitely sprinkles some magic over everything he does but that comes from love for the music I guess
