  • Community is who we are. Community shapes our connections with individuals who share similar values, goals, behaviors, and experiences. Marginalized communities are often faced with conditions that impact their health and well-being and so it is important to take a closer look at these communities and see how public health steps in to help bring about a positive impact on the lives and well-being of individuals belonging to these communities. Joining us for this podcast on “Community” are three amazing speakers for each of our segments. For our “Faculty in ACTion” segment, we are excited to host Ms. Gabriela Gallegos, Associate Professor, Attorney, and Owner and USA Triathlon Certified Race Director of Race El Paso. Ms. Gallegos is a member of the Center of Community Health Impact, and her work focuses on food access and encouraging PA in adults particularly women of color.
For our UTHealth “Alumni in ACTion” segment, we welcome Mr. Ed Pettit, founder and Executive Director of Wellspring Houston, Co-founder of InnoGrid, a doctoral student at Texas Southern University, and graduate assistant with Bullard Center for Environmental and Climate Justice. Mr. Pettit will talk about why he chose public health, what it means to him, and his current initiative in community work. And lastly, for our “Community in ACTion”, we are excited to host Dr. Aisha Siddiqui, Founder and CEO of CHAT- Culture of Health Advancing Together, and an alumnus of UTHealth Houston School of Public Health.
