Never thought about using my nails to clear ballast stuck to the rail--I tried it yesterday and it worked well! Thanks for sharing these tips! This is why I love watching these programs.
Ken FYI.......Before you spray the track, run a thin bead of chap-stick along the rail tops and spray away. Easy then to wipe the rail paint tops off. Cheers....Alex K.
Best weights I have found are cans of soup of vegetables. Set them on their sides and let the track hold them in place. The track will keep the cans from rolling off.
Thank you Ken. It is so great that we have people like you to do such quality videos on techniques and I learn something every time even at 62! (i.e. the nscale joiners! on code 70 HO track!) I enjoy each one and while I usually never comment I had to this time because you need to know how much these sort of informative and real videos mean to hobbyists like me. Thank you..can't wait for more.
The yard diorama is just outstanding! So real! It looks like we had @ my employment. Chrysler Fenton, Missouri. The Roka Models are very nice! I model Missouri Pacific Railroad from 50's, 60's, & 70's. I always look forward to the new items from Bachmann. Thank You! I always love the runby's! Thanks Ken! This is "The Best Hobby In The World" "As Always..Be Safe & Keep It On The Rails" MoPac Jack Rock N' Roll Forever..
Love the concrete section! I'm working on a small switching layout that needs this kind of surface. Seeing the final shoot module though, I can see the concrete surface isn't as smooth as I would've hoped for; too much visible texture for my liking. Is there an added step to get a smoother finish? Thanks.
Nice! You showed some great techniques I willlikely apply to my layout. In fact, leaving the cracked concrete and gouging some potholes would make for some very authentic Michigan street running. Thanks for showing the technique.
I bet it's a tough choice as a manufacturer of large scale to decide between 1:32 and 1:29. I'm so glad they chose 1:29, as the Charles Ro/USA Trains was my choice a decade ago. I'm surprised they made that choice, but very happy they did. (Please, Bachmann, remember to put the scale in your ads for large scale items, as it's very helpful for us old timers, and vital for a new guy. Thanks.)
I like to use DAP 230 in Brown when laying down any cork and track, then there is no chance of any of the clear or white showing through from other DAP products.
I love the Dap230 clear latex caulk, too. I've used it for years, and built and rebuilt a few layouts, recycling the track. You don't need much, it holds the track securely, and the track comes right up by sliding a knife under it when you need to make changes. People say CopyDex is another good adhesive, but I've never used it.
I like the techniques used. However the finish that might be good for a shoot layout is not to my liking as far as the quality of the finish, but he! what d I know.
come hit me with a stick to finish it... it's like building a 16 x 8 layout in Ho Scale with all the detail... Normal building for enjoyment could take 2 years and only 1 hour on video. add to that a weekly podcast edit and a monthly edit for WN.. I have discovered my limit in time available as i date and form a new relationship for life.. I'll make it work. at 57 years old i can compete,,, still.... KP
I know Right.. It scares me as well as i have not built a scene or a mode and run a train on my layout in the past year since my divorce. it's a mental work in progress as i am still in court with the X.. Gets in the way of modeling as usual... The day will come and The n scale layout will get done.
Too long will not watch after 20 minutes gets boring and I have a life. Why not 3 20 minute videos on 3 days that way will be enjoyable and able to retain the information.
A joy watching this after a hard day of work

Ken, although I have seen you do some of this before, I always appreciate watching HOW you do the magic that you do!
Thank you for another brilliant What's Neat Model Railroad Hobbyist

One of the best 'What's Neat' episodes I have viewed. Well done!

Awesome Ken. The diorama came out fantastic. The Bachmann segment was nice to see what they have available.
Great episode!! It goes to show that with even just the basics, a great scene can be made.
Great video-I gathered some great tips for making a photo diorama base. That's something I want to do soon. Thanks a lot for sharing, Ken.

THANK YOU FOR GREAT DETAILED SUPER VIDEO AS ALL GREAT WATCHING EVERY TIME
very cool as you show just do it . and scenery can never be wrong,, just do it
Great video Ken, the yard diorama is excellent...! I going to try and do something the same here over in the UK Cheers Steve
If you vibrate all that ballast will lay right down nice and even
Thanks for sharing, great episode 👍

Great job Ken!
@ken - Lowe's in Festus shows it has the gallon size tub of Dap's concrete patching ready-mix.
Nice!
Great video, Ken. I got a lot of new ideas. Thanks for showing 😊
Great video Ken!
Many thanks, I find the tutorials very useful. One question: if this was for running, how would one clean the rails in cement?
Brilliant video

Air pump weed sprayer for applying Woodland Scenics Scenic Cement to prevent hand cramps
I didn’t come here looking for the ASMR, but here it is.
I am surprised that you didn’t make a stamp to create expansion joints to scale
Should you power the track anyway, in case you want to shoot lighted cars or locomotives?
yes!
You can use alligator clips to power the track!
Great video, have you ever tried Arizona Rock and Mineral brand ballast?
I also use Dap 230 for gluing lichen

Looks great
One of the things that I noticed in your video is all the storage that you have overhead. What are all those tools hanging from?
magnets
Real quick question has any company made the new UP boxcars yet the all yellow ones with the numbers on the top?
Hey Ken, how would you by showing like one or two lines have been used more kind of like a main line to darken then up a bit?
Omg, about time I wish u could put out 2 videos a month instead of one video per month 😫
nice but I prefer snap or flex track to the E-Z track more realistic
I like the techniques used. However the finish that might be good for a shoot layout is not to my liking as far as the quality of the finish, but he! what d I know.
Still disappointed that Bachmann has not moved forward on the Siemens S-70 LRV that was announced a few years ago.
What ever happened with the n scale layout? Was it ever finished? Or did I miss the part 2 video?

Why don’t you use real rock ballast
@Bob Martin Purchased rock is great, but if of concern, it's heavy too. If you crush your own real rock, be sure the minerals are NOT conductive!
