Very good reviews. I don't give a flying fig about finger prints on anything but screen and windows. It's a TRUCK should have brush/branch scrape marks all down the sides of it... *real men* will have rock scraps and rock dust imbedded in lower side panels. (real men don't wrap either, lol)
17:00 The obvious answer with OEMs and OTAs is that they are reliant on 100s of 3rd party suppliers and that API/communication with the components is very hard to manage all the diffs. Jim Farley talks about this in interviews. Hence T3 and other projects. Tesla just has a fresh sheet of paper and that is why they had such an easy time. Rivian OTAs are fantastic as well.
In regards to the design of CT and also to the CT vs Rivian the fact the CT missed out on the gear tunnel is a huge mistake from Tesla. With the CT's high bed sidings you can't reach down to grab stuff out of the bed, and need to climb up. With a gear tunnel you could have more lockable storage, also water tight storage and you could step on the gear tunnel doors to grab stuff from the bed. Much easier then climbing upon to the bed to get what you need.
Same I really wanted the truck for the interior and the front light beam lol. Also, door dings are a thing with every other car. That holds its own weight in value. Out of the 10 years Ive owned my truck I've never needed my spare tire.
For sure. Most trips don’t require a spare tire. Specific off-road excursions have a whole set of gear prep and review. A spare tire can be part of that process. Otherwise, it’s just extra mass to lug around that does literally nothing. Those who “need” spare tires will self-select over time.
25:20 high value on the exterior many will appreciate because they will not be apprehensive about where they park. Currently, I just park far away (in a single spot) and walk. Avoid door dings/dents.
Rivian has the gear tunnel but this space is also available on Cybertruck. The rear seats have a lot of storage space under them, looks like a similar volume to what Rivian offers.
Maybe dumb question but I religiously wax *everything* I give a darn about. Would not wax work on SS too?? I even use it on glass often. (guess I better experiment on my refrigerator, HA!)
You not only want the curve aerodynamically - yes it brings added surface tension and stiffness but it also makes the surface not visually "fall in" as flat surfaces with visible rounded edges tend to do. They actually appear more flat with a little bit of crown on it than actual flat surfaces to the eye. You can also see on the sides panels where they still got some bad wobble in there. if they curved it slightly (on direction only of course because of the thick sheet bend process) it'd be much cleaner and actually visually "flatter".
My biggest pet peeve is they don't give you an option at purchase to buy a tire with better tread for winter, offroad even at the expense of range or performance. Not sure how these tires will work where it done more than occasionally rain.
The weed and bus comment.. Lol. Have to take a break. Cool that Jason is long time Tesla driver, good review of potential improvements. The full map sounds like a no brainer.
Interesting comments re R1T v CT. Rivian built an adventure truck so focused on people that want an adventure SUV. Haven't driven one, but offroad performance makes up for onnroad some compromise is what I hear. The CT has me excited by really going after the entirety of the truck, SUV, offroad market. Yes, a lot not available yet so incomplete product at this time, but it's a you can have it all product which is a thrill for me on one vehicle. The stainless steel taking away worries of damage, scratch anoyther big plus. Obviously, they need to deliver the on road, off road performance, but if they do, will be a thrill to have it down the road. Love the stainless steel. The market will be competitive which will be good to se. look fwd to comparing it against all the great products that will be out.
Is cybertruck spare tires exactly the same as every spare tire in every truck in the 50s and 60s and 70s and 80s. The spare tire is obtained and then sit in the bed of the truck where it stays for 30 years
Cybertruck tire is only 1" larger than the Rivian, so fitting the spare differences wouldn't be that much. You have to appreciate the Rivian more after you realize it has a spare wheel/tire, gear storage and a larger battery over the Cybertruck. No spare tire on Cybertruck is a HUGE mistake and will severely limit appeal outside of tech doofuses going to the mall.
The CT an open space under the rear seats and by the looks of it it's if comparable volume to what Rivian offers. Also CT has rear drive steering and those are going to take away some space too which Rivian doesn't have to account for and there's still a significant amount of storage space under the bed, just not enough to hold the tire. But yeah, it seems the Rivian is packaged really well either way.
I think it is fine to sell the CT without a spare tire. It is a matter of efficiency. If you do not go off road the chances are you will never need it. But they should have made a under bed space for a tire for those who need it.
Forgoing a spare tire in an aerodynamic car is a valid decision, but the 60lbs difference a spare tire is nothing to a 6500lb truck with a .33 coefficient of drag
I dont like the push button turn signals. The regular steering stem lever is just fine. Headlight flash would be pulling up on the turn signal lever would be good. Turning on wiper would be just fine turning the tip of the turn signal lever. How do you turn on the running lights on this? How much trouble? If spoken commands is it easy?
For all my trucks I have ever purchased, you always end up getting a aftermarket spare tire 🛞 yourself (and sometimes even wheels). You pretty much have to go bigger tires and mud terrains. If you’re planning to beat on the truck... So … stock spare bye 👋
Thanks for the interesting video. I am still a reservation holder but I’m not sure anymore because of the bad range especially when towing. I tow horses regularly, so quite heavy.
@@ScottBuscemi typically about 200km with 2-4 horses. Once a year I tow 1600km. I own a Sierra with a 3 Liter Duramax, it’s very economical but the diesel is very expensive here.
with the number of people that will take it on real off road, it doesnt make sense to put in a spare tire. i think the rivian is a great truck. but it is a traditional truck with electric motors but the cybertruck just opened the door to a whole new reality
Great video! Could you comment on how fun the cyber truck is to drive versus the model three? Also, what is the insurance like versus the model three? Thank you.
Don't understand lack of functioning LSD (or locking dif), that's absolutely necessary unless electronic pseudo LSD like S3XY obviously have. Interesting they went with mechanical locking difs, efficiency only good reason I can think of and that might take considerable hard off roading to benefit much. I want all driven wheels to DRIVE at all times, inc dry grippy asphalt.
Many years ago Elon asked his followers on Twitter what features the world's best new truck should have. Spare tire didn't make the list, because we didn't think we needed to state the OBVIOUS. Cybertruck is Tesla's worst product yet. You know what else wasn't on the list? Drive by wire, 48 volt architecture, 4 wheel steering, or a range extender that takes up half the bed and STILL doesn't even come close to the promised range. What a disaster - everything we didn't ask for and nothing we did. Oh, and the bed rails that prevent you from using the bed, well that's just our fault too for not asking for it - even though we didn't get anything we asked for. Remember the ramps built into the tailgate? Cyberquad anyone? Autopilot? Nope, not here. I guess this is what happens when Silicon Valley designs a truck.
Tesla should make a Cybertruck out of steel and paint them if the trade-off is less weight, less cost, and safer/ not sharp edges along with EU saleability-safety. 😊
Ford has competent engineers but poor vertical integration and supply chain. They can't do software updates when they don't own the software for each part.
They almost certainly use suppliers for their software and interior electronics, which makes it extremely challenging to vertically integrate. Tesla is basically a software company giving them a massive advantage.
Jason's not a hater. I don't agree with everything he says about Tesla, but he definitely is not a hater. Watch his video on Semi for example and you will see how much integrity he has. Obviously his channel doesn't aspire to be super objective without a shred of bias and so you will find his own opinions and his sympathies and antipathies, but in general he's a man of great integrity.
I beg to differ. While I don't agree with all his opinions on Tesla he clearly knows what he's talking about. He's made a lot of excellent videos on Tesla which I use very often as an argument in a discussion about electric cars.

I like the way Jason calls Tesla on their (accidental?) bullshit, and also gives credit where it's due. We need more of this in the Tesla community :)

That’s actually not as bad as I was expecting
