    Try to put your Doyle’s gear hoist in the bottom of an entrenchment tool pouch or some other type of dump pouch. The entrenchment tool pouch is long enough to get the gear hoist out of the way of your pack as it sits in the bottom of the pouch and the rope goes through the grommeted hole. Just something you might like to try so you can wear your saddle in.
    Thanks for all the good videos.

    Sorry for your loss. I really enjoy all your videos. Have you considered strapping your bow to your pack after removing your sticks and platform? That would eliminate the need for a hoist rope.

    • @MarkDohring
      @MarkDohring  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt,
      First off thanks for watching the videos and giving suggestions.. I have tried that in the past but I had a couple situations where branches from trees next to the one I was climbing caught onto my bow (I like a lot of cover if possible) once the small branch got stuck between the string and the cam .. so since then I have pretty much decided I will always pull the bow up because I can actually see the bow and avoid such branches .. but that is always a good option if
      The canopy is more open... hope ur season is going well.

    Mark, last week I was cutting a twig and sliced my finger. The cut wasn't very bad but fingers bleed.. A LOT! Fortunately, I was only a couple hundred yards from the truck, but I will always carry a small first aid kit with me from now on. Adding a small first aid kit might just be something you should add to your pack. Wishing you all the best and thank you for your videos!

    Hi Mark. Does the pack waist belt do a good job of taking the weight off your shoulders with all your gear? I have similar gear except camera and looking for pack to carry sticks and platform.

    • @MarkDohring
      @MarkDohring  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt it does do a very good job... I think the sides could be a little stiffer but it does form nicely to your hips... one thing I would really have liked to see, not sure what they call it in the pack pac industry... but when u attached the waist belt, i would have loved to see the set up where u can pull to the center to tighten rather than to the sides which is harder to do...Just a minor thing... thinking if this can be fixed with some sort of attachment... may reach out to them...It took some playing with but its doing a really good job... I really like the vertical and horizontal straps really makes it easy to hold things tight.

    Sorry to hear about your Dad. I have a couple of question. Do you climb with your pack on and also is there enough room to carry jackets and extra cloths in that big pouch on the inside? When the bag is hanging by it’s handle in the tree, doesn’t it have to stay “closed”, or you wouldn’t be able to get into the top pocket correct?

    • @MarkDohring
      @MarkDohring  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Michael, thank u for your condolences and watching the video... to answer your questions...
      - When I get to the tree I take the pack off and release the horizontal straps which are holding the sticks and platform.
      - The Pocket on the inside will hold extra layers it's opening is about 12" across...I don't think u could put a real heavy jacket in there... but that can be held by the horizontal straps on the back over the sticks... there is still a lot of strap available to do that..
      - Once the sticks and platform are removed I close the horizontal straps again (if i had a heavy jacket I could put it there)..
      - then attach the first stick to the tree and attach the other 2 to my hooks on the sides of my saddle (these are sticks 3 & 4)...
      - I then put my back pac back on, hook up my bow to my Doyles gear hoist and put stick number 2 over my right shoulder ( I use the rope and create sling, it only needs to be there for a short time while i get on my first stick)
      - I proceed up the tree.
      - once at the top, Platform is attached, tether is attached, linemans rope is removed, gear strap is put on tree and pack pack is removed and placed about knee height in front of me. (I use to install my pad on the tree, but now I leave it in the pack and kneel up against the pad while its in the pack)
      - The handle is behind the top pocket, so u can get to the back zipper. now I remove my camera gear and put it on the tree...U can leave the straps un-hooked at this time if u want and be able to get to all the pockets... I close the horizontal and vertical straps because there is nothing else I need... But with it hanging from the handle u don't need to close any of the belts. I will sometimes put the waist belt around the tree and hook it on...without the vertical straps hooked up u can flip the top up and get to the big compartment inside.
      Hope this helps...I will try and get over to the park and have my beautiful wife tape my set up so this make a little more sense...

      @@MarkDohring Thanks for the video, really looking at this pack. You answered my question here of whether it is hard to get into the main drawstring bag while hanging in the tree because the lid can only go up so far before it hits the trunk of the tree. Wasn't sure if that would be annoying to wrestle with the lid while trying to pull stuff out of the main compartment. Do you find the bag to be bulky in the tree or get in the way of your saddle/vision while hunting?
