    Congrats to the Blues from a NY Rangers fan. I know what it was like to wait for what seemed an eternity to win the CUP. For those folks out there who don't "get" hockey, you're missing out on a great game. Just look at that stadium full of "closeted" hockey fans! It's ok to love this game even if it's not "diversified" enough for the masses. I honestly could never understand why it's a distant #4 sport; maybe the puck is too small, or the players don't wear enough tattoos? St. Louis, enjoy that cup!

    A year prior to this, I was living in Denver. My ex broke up with me in May of that year. After numerous tears, sadness, ending up in a psych ward and wasting a whole summer away, I made the decision to transfer back home to St. Louis.
    Came back to the Lou in November 2018. Now, I have to confess, was never a hockey fan. Luckily I had coworkers who were. Around April and May, it was hard to ignore this team's playoff run because every night, guys were coming in talking about it. The only games I watched on TV were 3 & 6. I watched Game 3 at a bowling alley in Richmond Heights and they lost. I was invited over to my buddy's house to watch Game 6 and they lost.
    I randomly took the following Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday off. Not for the Blues, for vacation. Again, not much of a hockey fan and never looked up the schedule. I had mentioned to a buddy of mine once "Busch Stadium should open it's doors to Blues fans." Just as an off the cuff type comment. He calls me up Wednesday to tell me they listened to you and open their doors for Blues fans for Game 7......oh and I have two tickets. You wanna go? Hells yeah, I wanna go!
    My buddy likes to drink, so I was gonna be the DD, clearly lol. I heard it was in Boston so in my mind, I'm thinking it's a longshot they'll win. We were about 20-30 seats behind the infield wall, between left field and 3rd base.
    1 goal, 2 goals, 3 goals, 4 goals......and then the countdown. I don't know how many beers I was in at this time. All I know was a year ago, I was living with my mother, drowning in tears over a girl that didn't give a shit about me and living miserably. Now, I am working a good job, living on my own, back home in St. Louis and I'm at Busch Stadium about to see the Blues win their first Stanley Cup in team history with my friend and many other fellow St. Louisans.
    And as soon as the countdown ended and the fireworks lit up the night in Downtown St. Louis, I took my full 24 oz can of Bud Light and poured it all over myself and hugged and hi fived numerous other fans knowing the Blues are finally Stanley Cup Champions!
    I've seen the Cardinals win 2 World Series titles and the Chiefs win a Super Bowl......but nothing will ever compare to that night!

    25,000 people singing "Gloria". I wonder if Laura Branigan (RIP) ever played to a crowd that big? (She was an arena act, even at her peak, IIRC.)
    I'll still rate the 1969 Mets and 1999 Rams as better "amazing miracle sports stories", but it's no shame to take 3rd on that list. (And all in years ending in "9", oddly.)

    • @jackson5116
      @jackson5116 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Pope came to St Louis in 1999, and blessed each sports team (Blues, Cardinals, and Rams). The following January, the Rams won the Super Bowl. Seven years later the Cardinals won the World Series. Finally, 20 years later, the Blues won the Stanley Cup.

      Only thing I would say is that neither the Mets or Rams came from last place at the midpoint of the season to claim their titles. No knock on either team, their championships were well earned and deserved. What this Blues team did from January 3 to June 12 was nothing short of phenomenal.
