  • In this video I demonstrate how to eliminate up to 80% of the static cling common with burr coffee grinders. By simply lining the plastic grounds collection cup with aluminum foil, you can reduce the static charge making coffee grinding a less messy & annoying experience. :)

    I got one of these type grinders cheap from a yard sale. Thought it was too good to be true until I used it and saw the mess. I suspect if the previous owner had seen this video they would have kept this grinder. Thanks for posting

    You can also try to add a couple small drops of water in the coffee beans, it'll remove almost 100% of static every time.

      I put 1 drop per scoop of beans. It works perfectly. No static at all,

    Just came across your video. Nice hack! Have you ever tried moistening the beans ever so slightly? We have found it can help reduce static. Doesn't take much. Just get your finger wet, shake off excess water and stir the beans in the hopper with damp finger. Well done video!

      +Whole Latte Love Thanks for the nice comments! :) I have seen a couple of videos showing that method of adding drops of water to the beans in the hopper. I haven't tried it yet but will soon. I just have to get past my aversion of getting my coffee beans wet. :/
      Static is an issue with burr grinders but I don't get as wigged out over it as much as other people do! :) I also own a Bodum Bistro burr grinder and I broke the glass collection cup last winter. Instead of buying another one, I replaced it with a stainless steel cup for durability. As it turned out, the steel cup eliminated the static completely. (I have a video of that too!) Thanks for watching and commenting. :)

    Thank you U Tube people, I didn't know I could clean my Cuisinart coffee grinder, but after the motor started make a slowing sound I went to u tube, and found it (saved me money on a new one) thanks again

      I'm so glad the video(s) helped! Which Cuisinart model do you own? I have both this CBM-18 & the smaller, square DBM-8. They're nice grinders but the user manuals that come with them are not terribly helpful at explaining how to take them apart for cleaning, especially the DBM-8 model. Thanks for watching and commenting! :)

    We usually just make drip from a machine that we can set to go off in the morning. I've been grinding a 6 oz. bag at once and weigh out the filters ahead of time and keep them in a container. To keep down static from so much at a time, I spray a little water on top and it cuts down on the static by about 85/90%.
    Your method would be great for times that we want a different method. Thanks for giving us some options to keep in mind.

    In my video review of this coffee grinder, I used a paper towel to minimize the static cling in the grounds collection cup. In this video, I use aluminum foil which is my preferred method as it does work better to greatly reduce the static-y mess associated with burr grinders.

    I just bought one of these. Thanks for the videos, I'm sure they'll help me as I have just started grinding my own beans. The cuisinart really appealed to me.

    Yeah, I solved this problem entirely differently by running a 44AWG copper wire loop from the burr chamber to the main power line's common ground wire. I know that sounds complicated, but it honestly wasn't. The result. not 50%, 70%, 80%.. absolutely 100% of the static discharge from the burr grinder is discharged to ground. ZERO static build up. Don't do it if you don't know what you're doing, but if you do, it's a guaranteed fix and works amazingly.

      Ok but where is the cool located? In the container with the coffee? Or somewhere in the chute?

  • @oinc7320
    @oinc7320 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Given the coffee seems to fly out of the grinder and strikes the front of the container, then falls down, wouldn’t it be better putting the foil on the front instead of the back of the container? If that front foil is touching the lid foil and that foil is grounded aka negatively charge via of running it out the back, I would think the coffee would lose its charge when it struck the front foil?

    • @helpfulnatural
      @helpfulnatural  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can line the entire cup with foil for even better static control. I lined the back of it because it was easier to show in the video what happens after grinding. When I watched the coffee dispensing into the cup, it scattered in all directions. Thanks for watching! :)

    What setting should I set for a percolator?

    • @helpfulnatural
      @helpfulnatural  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The only difference between this grinder and the Cuisinart DBM8 is the style of the burrs. Otherwise the settings are identical. (I have another video comparing the two grinders.) For percolators, start at the coarse end of the dial and make adjustments from there. Hope this helps.

  • @oinc7320
    @oinc7320 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Oops, was thinking of the Cuisinart DBM 8 which shoots the coffee out from the back wall, this model seems to uses the lid.

    • @helpfulnatural
      @helpfulnatural  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, this model drops the coffee grounds straight down through the lid but because the cup is so narrow, the static is worse than with the DBM-8. I never used the foil in that model because the cup is so wide that just tapping it on the counter after grinding seems to work to knock down the grounds sufficiently before removing the lid. This will keep the coffee from flying all over when you open it. :)

    You mentioned in this video that the #15 setting was best for the extraction...for the type of coffee you use.
    Q: What type of coffee do you use? 8:03

      At the time I made this video, I think I was using the Italian Roast from World Market/Cost Plus. I've also used French Roast with similar results, it all depends on your taste and the freshness of the beans. I have since switched to using only roasters in my area for fresher beans and to support my local businesses. :) Thanks for watching and commenting! :)

    Try grabbing a spoon. Wet the handle of the spoon with clean water 1x. Then try stirring it with the coffee beans prior to grinding. The spoon should be slightly wet not very wet.

    You'd think a Cuisinart appliance wouldn't need to be hacked. (I just joined your channel, so I'm looking at some of the older posts)

    I tried this
    Didn’t work
    I’ve got the same exact grinder you do
    I tried the water drop method and that was useless too
    Can anyone tell me a useful method to stop or dissipate static in coffee grinders?

    • @helpfulnatural
      @helpfulnatural  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only thing that has eliminated the static completely was to use a steel cup to collect the coffee grounds. That would be impossible with any Cuisinart model because their collection cups trigger a lock mechanism for safety before it can be turned on to operate. I also own a Bodum burr grinder that comes with a glass cup. The glass does reduce static a bit but not entirely. When I accidentally broke it, I replaced it with a stainless steel cup. I've had zero static with it. I have a video review of the Bodum with the steel cup.

    No mod needed. 4-5 drops of water on the beans.
    Static gone.

  • @no834

    Or you could just tap it down ln the counter a couple times and use a brush to get anything left on the sides.

    • @helpfulnatural
      @helpfulnatural  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do that as well but the Cuisinart grinders have so much static, this model in particular with the weird shape of the collection cup needed a mod to decrease the charge. Thanks for watching! :)

    or just tap it on the sideboard after grinding
