    Remember I mentioned that I used to restore aircraft cockpit panels and instrumentation? This is the same process I used to restore the lettering in control panel faces where the lettering is depressed into the face of the panel. Old radios and controls were backlit. They were painted black but the lettering was left clear and then painted white so they illuminated when you turn the blacklight control up. Overtime the white lettering wood yellow or flake off. This is how I restored them. Just sharing because you create these videos to help entrepreneurs who are interested in doing these kinds of work as a career or just a side job. Hope it helps somebody.

    I used this method on some terrible scratches and dings. Then I buffed and polished.
    My buddy can't find the scratches which he'd seen before I began.
    CAUTION! Be careful with the razor blade if you are working on or near a curved area. The blade can scratch near the edges.

With all the hate and trolls going on in the comments these days on all platforms, it makes me happy to see you showing your genuine gratitude. I am sure that seeing how helpful and thankful many people are for his tutorials drives him to keep on creating and sharing knowledge. Hope your detail center is prosperous and thank you Mike for sharing your knowledge. As a DIYer a lot of videos don't really show and explain the science of what is happening, so sometimes the video doesn't really help fully with the issue. Your videos, on the other hand teaches us what is causing the root issue, therefore we can come up with our own tweaked versions of the solution to apply to our own problems. I am extremely grateful for coming across your videos. A price tag cannot be put on the amount of knowledge you are sharing.

      Also, if the paint brush is too wide (this seems the case especially with foam clear coat "brushes" as of late), mix some of the paint in a tiny cup or cap and use a super fine brush from an art store. The only problem is really time. It often takes an entire day to do the entire process as it's a slow process (mostly paint drying), so be patient.

    Should you apply a clear coat over the top after the entire process to keep it more protected?

    • @SweetProjectCars
      @SweetProjectCars  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      if you use a single stage paint you dont need to if you dont just mix the paint 75% to 25% clear and you are good to go

    • @plektosgaming
      @plektosgaming 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danielhitch9103 I have tri-coat paint. Fixing this is indeed cumbersome, but as you surmise. Base is base, mix clear and color for the next two coats, top coat is clear with a drop or two of the 2nd paint in it - progressively more clear, less color. For colored paints, it'll look perfectly fine - as in the light hits it just right and 6 inches away the clear looks a tiny bit off, like maybe it needs a slight detail. If it's black or white, it's trickier, of course. Fixing multi-stage paint is always better than re-spraying the entire panel and hoping for any sort of match.
