Cool race team. That green Hornet looks like a pretty cool kit. I always thought the box art was cool, but expected the kit to be kinda toy-like as Monograms stuff tended to be in those days. Like the Long John dragster with no frame, just body and the engine represented by just the heads and headers gluing to recesses in the body shell. So since the 60s I've steered away from the Green Hornet. The 1960 Chevy pickup kit was a new tool from the 1990s. If it were original 1960 vintage tooling it would have a 1-piece chassis plate that mounts to the body with screws. I have one of these in my stash. I have a couple of those AMT trailers kicking around too. I think I still have that issue of HopUp magazine from my dad, although a bunch of those old magazines from my dad were destroyed by floods in 2005. Yeah floods, and I live in the desert. I recognize the cover of the mag. It's form right atound the time my parents met at a car race and hot martied soon after. Funny that they call that drag car a "Safety Car". My dad's Kurtis Offy midget he bought in 46 had more safety than that thing. Then in 63 my folks started working Tech Inspection at sports car races with me helping at 7 years old. Dad & mom worked Tech until Dad retired from Cheif of Tech for SCORE 30 years later. I worked Tech for 50 years. I should still have dad's custom made tool to check that roll bars and cages are at least 3" above the driver's helmet. And I love the model kit box art miniature images under glas on your table top. Have you told about that in a previous episode?
Cool stuff. The AMT/Ertl 1960 Chevy custom fleetside was 1st issued in 1998. This 1st issue did not include the go cart. It could only be built factory stock. The old trailer is cool, The green hornet dragster looks great & it all makes for a sweet little race team. Have a good week end
As always, another kool vid! Neat setup you built. Love the old magazines. I have a small collection, including the smaller magazines. Those are my favorites. And I believe big hubcaps on the car are called moon disks. I know that’s what Mooneyes refers to them as.
Check out the October 1959 issue of Hot Rod for a feature on the Grasshopper, which Monogram marketed as the Green Hornet No rollbar? There probably wasn't a seatbelt either. The thinking being it was better to be thrown clear in a crash
They look Awesome!
