My grandpa Danny Dill co wrote this song... you did an amazing job with this cover. Such a wonderful, expressive voice you have. Thank you for sharing!
This is unbelievable. I have never seen anyone who can sing this beautifully and play guitar with such emotion but also perfect technique. This is timeless stuff, Trey.
You're the first person I've ever sing the line the slayer who instead of the man who ran. Thank you I like to here them sang exactly how it was written
Trey! It's a total shame if you haven't been discovered by now! You deserve to be in Nashville, and placing your foothold along all the other greats in country music! Modern day country music doesn't sound like this anymore! So, I'm going to pray that somebody somewhere hears your fantastic voice and playing that guitar! God Bless you young man!
I come back here and listen to this at least three times a week. It starts out with me intending to just find some more stuff to steal from the solo, but I end up watching the whole thing every time.
Trey if you haven't already had the pleasure of hearing Cash's acoustic version of this, you have the tone for it. It's on the 'Cash Unearthed' collection and the best version I've ever heard.
You can hear the influence of Keith Whitley and Randy Travis in your voice Trey an absolute brilliant rendition of this beautiful song am I right in saying is it a Lefty Frizzel song
Trey, who signed your guitar? Is there a story behind it? Absolutely great performance of an all-time classic👍. The picking and singing are truly world class🤠
Jonathan Burton I do use 13’s on all of my guitars. I’ve really always used 13’s. I did try some “bluegrass gauge” strings from D’Addario recently, which are lights other than the 6th string. I didn’t really dig them...but I know some other players who use those. I think it’s a preference thing...you definitely get more volume and a thicker tone with heavier strings, but you can also work on tone with the thickness of your pick and your touch. It’s not all about the strings. Hopefully that helps! Thanks for the kind words, by the way!
I’ve become obsessed with this song, that I had never heard before. You, sir, impress me mightily.

Looks like Taj Mahal.
Great stuff thank you. Curious, what is that chord you are playing on the capoed 5th fret?
He’s in drop D (possibly double drop d I’m not entirely sure) but you have to move up 2 frets on the low E string to play an open G in drop D tuning
i was just curious what gauge picks you use? thank you :)
Danimal1978 I use a Bluechip TAD60, which is 1.5mm thick.
@@TreyAHensley thanks!
Do you run 13s, Trey? I’m trying but my wrist is giving out! Thanks! Love your work SO much.
