How has watching this just made me cry. Finally Paris getting an emotional fireworks / night-time spectacular. There is so much emotion poured into this show without being cliche. Superb.
"But not all magic is something you see with your eyes, sometimes magic is something you feel inside..." So enjoy all the dead space so we can cheap out on fireworks.
There is some really cool stuff, but watching this I can't help but feel they just gave up or had to rush at some point. Strange pacing, and Belle appearing in two separate segments; missing phrases or singing (almost like they are not able to use the original music from the movies); concepts that are not fully explored like the magic wand being passed like a torch at the Olympics, which could have tied the whole thing together (add the staff of Rafiki, Moana's oar, guitar from Coco, etc.)
Indeed it went by so fast I initially missed the magic wand being passed at the start and then turning into Mary Poppins umbrella. Imagine if that wand theme could have continued throughout, perhaps the wand could’ve sometimes been represented in drones. It also only just occurred to me they didn’t seem to use any of the smoke or pyro effects from the drones that they have worked so hard on for previous shows… the Bastille day show scene when Flora, Fauna and Merriweather were firing their wands at the castle was genius and it’s a missed opportunity not to do something similar with this show.
The magic of the mapping in this show is absolutely insane, especially on the main Street, but there’s no narration between the songs and it seems a compilation. Gotta say the intro sequence is stunning, but the rest is boring. Sorry. What’s more it seems like they’re using less fireworks and not enough drones! Desp was more exciting at this point 🫤
And why are the drones being so under-utilised? And what about the drones with smoke and pyro effects (Casey Jr train, pirate ship)? I cling to the hope that perhaps not everything was being used or launched for this preview and that the real performances might be different, or at least tweaked over the coming weeks.
If I had to give my honest thoughts on Disneyland Paris' new nighttime show, Disney Tales of Magic, here's my opinion on it: - I had to say that this show is an improvement over Disney Illuminations. - The addition of projections onto the buildings across Main Street U.S.A. are dazzling. - The lighting, projections, and drones look absolutely incredible, love them! - The title song is pretty catchy and has a nice beat to it. - The intro sequence is stunning, but some parts of it are boring. - Improve the overall pacing of the show. - Just like some people, the show could use a bit more pyrotechnic and drones, as well as balancing between them (with some of the drones including smoke and pryo, similar to the Disney Electrical Sky Parade). - Also, it would've been to cool to see the magic wand being passed around during the show, like the Olympic torch, which could've tied the show together. All in all, I'd give “Disney Tales of Magic” a rating of 7/10.
I agree with most of the things you said except I prefer illuminations slightly over this show but Disney dreams is still the reigning champion of Disney shows in my opinion
The lighting, projections, drones, additions to Main Street USA are all amazing. However, DLP are STILL lacking fireworks! If this show had more pyrotechnics, it would be an amazing nighttime spectacular, an easy fix.
Just like the other overseas park, it's just not possible or feasible, especially in Asia where there are environmental laws regarding the use of huge amounts of fireworks. But yeah, fireworks definitely help in a show.
