- One of the most difficult slide show I've ever done... I had a lot of work to put together the music, words meaning and photos... I don't speak FR, so I hope ot correlate at least a bit...
The aim was to show how time changed dear Édith...and I loved the idea to put this change under the motto : Mea Culpa...

This song, this performance begs the question, what if Piaf had ventured into opera? Mea Culpa is dramatic in nature, Piaf's musicianship is impeccable and the expressive power of the voice puts most classical opera singers to shame.

Paroliers : Hubert Giraud / Michel Rivgauche
MEA CULPA a été écrite en 1954 par Michel RIVGAUCHE et Hubert GIRAULT pour le Concours de la Chanson Française de Deauville, où elle a gagné le grand prix cette année-là. Elle a été interprétée par des dizaines de chanteurs dont Mouloudji. Piaf l'a immédiatement mise à son répertoire puis a demandé à rencontrer l'auteur (M. Rivgauche) à qui elle a confié 2 musiques à mettre en paroles qui deviendront LES PRISONS DU ROY et LA FOULE. 14 autres suivront dont LES MOTS D'AMOUR, MON VIEUX LUCIEN, etc.

Piaf, TH-cam, the Internet, all great! For days I’ve been want to revisit ‘Mea Culpa’ but could not remember the title. I tried ‘Je suis a toi’ and Mon Dieu but failed. I then remembered one line, namely ‘J’ai peche’ par orgueil de t’avoir tout a’ moi’ and Google it. And the result - Mea Culpa. If only I’d tried that earlier I’d have saved myself so much ‘angoisse’.

My first memory of Edit was when I was 7 years old and lying on the floor listening to Milord played on the radio, since then I have always come back to her music in all stages of my life, in sadness and joy, she never gets old for me

A wonderful video! You made an incredible good job, you could read each Edith Piaf's movements in pictures and screen captures for this song, it's almost like to watch her singing on stage this beautiful song...Even you thought about the vision of the camera Wow! Is very difficult to make this effect! It's almost like to make an storyboard for an animation, congratulations my friend my best wishes for you! keep working!

I have seen the english translation but i do not understand what is her fault? was it that she loved him blindly or that she cheated on him? i am sorry but its a beautiful song and i would love to know the meaning....
This is an interesting question :-) I think she felt a buring love towards him and she would go thru it anytime again, doesn't matter what (she "sinned" 7 times and would do it again for him). That's how I always felt about this song :-)
